Moe's Tek/Outdoor Pots
    #2521868 - 04/03/04 05:12 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Is a top layer of soil (or soil/straw/poo) still a good idea, or necessary, for outdoor pots? This guy I know is basically following Moe's tek with everything in large planters. As of now there is just a layer of poo/spawn/straw on top and the depth is pushing 6 1/2". Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

yes bc it will keep them from drying out easily as well as protection against contams, bugs, etc. your friend also might want to look into slug deterrents

a stripe of petrolium jelly around the outside the planter should take care of that and it wont come off

Thanks for the replies . The guy has some nice, rich garden soil that he could use as a top layer. As far as slug and insect deterrents, he has window screen over the tops and under the bottoms, held tight with bungee cords...hopefully this should work. Thanks again.
