Does anyone use a tripping "safety net?"

When I first started tripping, a veteran on this board told me that it could be useful to have a tripping "safety net." This could be an item, a CD, or even something written down that you could turn to for calm and reassurance if things start to get a little hairy during the trip.
Whenever I'm taking a pretty good-sized dose, I'll always have two things prepared beforehand that I can turn to in case I start to feel anxious at any point during the trip.
The first thing is, before I dose I always take a white sheet of paper and write: "I'm tripping!" on the paper in bold, black letters and place it where I can see it. This helps remind me that, "I just took a drug, and I'm okay. I'm tripping, so I should enjoy this experience!"
The other item is a CD I have, called B-Tribe Spiritual, Spiritual that is always in the player in case I need to turn to it. No matter what state of mind I'm in tripping, this CD brings me immediantly back to bliss and tranquility. It's almost unreal how well this CD works as a "safety net."
So there are my two things. Does anyone else have an item/music/etc that they can turn to if they need reassurance and support? Or am I just weird?

Yeah me too, sort of. I always have a safety net (chill music, and lights) in my head, but I don't actually prepare anything. I did buy a few xanax with the intention of keeping them onhand as a safety net, but the other night when I freaked out on acid it never even crossed my mind to go eat the bars I had on hand until I had come down.

Incubus. Every one of their CDs are absolutely wonderful to trip to. It feels like I trust them with my wellbeing when I listen to them tripping. It's like "Oh, I can rely on Incubus, they won't steer me wrong." and they never do.
It's also amazing how often Brandon's lyrics say EXACTLY what I found myself deep in thought about just moments prior. Happens CONSTANTLY when I trip to them.
Oh, one time my sober girlfriend was my safety line.. it was like I could float out into space, but because she was sober I always had a safety line with which to pull myself back.
However, most of the time she is tripping balls right next to me, so then I rely on incubus in those most fragile moments.

I don't use benzos or any drugs to stop the trip, it seems sacrilege to the magic mushrooms. If you can't take what the shrooms have to offer, both good and bad, why shroom? No matter how bad of a trip it is, I always try to calm my mind, see what the problem is and get me through it rather than just pressing the abort button.
My safety net is usually meditation. I know if I ever did something like a thumbprint or a ridiculously high dosage of mushrooms, my first though would be to sit down and meditate right before it hit me. It may make a difference or it may not, but it'd be better than other alternatives in such a radical situation.

I agree with Ravus, not all trips are meant to be happy-go-lucky. Sometimes when you are having a bad trip, that is the best time to work through personal issues...instead of zonking out on benzos, try meditating or working through your trip mentally and using it as an oppurtunity to view yourself in a new and different way.

Yes, agreed, bad trips can be one of the times of the most personal growth.

My main fear with this would be the impression you're giving your brain and the magic mushrooms, that the reason you have better balance is not because you've worked your way through your problems, but rather because the mushrooms realize they're being told to shut up over and over again when they try to point out that you're being poisoned and denying the antidote...

When I made this thread, I wasn't thinking about chemical safety nets, per say, but whatever works for people.
My cats are also very comforting when I need them.

I wear my hat with me whenever I am on anything. It's such a good luck hat. Lol. I wore it when I lost my virginity, I wore it during all 3 of my extremely awesome acid trips, I wore it through 50+ shroom trips... It's always been a really 'good luck' type of thing. I've yet to get one bad trip while wearing it.

I listened to that CD on my last trip (3 or 4 times). I was in my room too paranoid to leave, so I just sat there in the dark listening to Pink Floyd. Even Welcome to the Machine seemed positive, when I expected it to be kind of a bad trip song.
