    #25211700 - 05/18/18 03:31 AM (2 years, 11 months ago)

Hello everyone, Does anyone have experience in pollinating Catha edulis aka Khat? I want to get some get some more plants going from seed but would like to try self pollinate some flowers, ive only got broad red strain. I have about 60-70 flowers coming with a few open already, i tweezered some stamens and rubbed em on the stigma getting all sexy on it. Fingers crossed. I couldn't find anything on record here or elsewhere so any info at all would be epic.

Please chime in if youve been there done that!

Hello, I have heard they can and do self pollinate. Where you don't actually have to do anything and they will produce seed. But if you have a large enough plant to produce seed have you thought about harvesting suckers? With suckers you will be able to get larger plants quicker. Since suckers are basically pre rooted cuttings.

Suckers are the easiest way to get new plants they say.
But getting seeds would be very nice.
Maybe you can go over the flowers with a q-tip.

Maybe you should ask in the Chat thread?
It´s in the growlog section.

I would be very interested to see your Khat's flowers! As Mateo mentioned above, there's a Khat growers thread in the 'ethnobotanical grow logs and pictures' section. I wonder if I would ever be able to get my C. edulis to flower, since they're still rather small and growing in a container. Sadly, my climate is not suited to keep them outdoors year round. I hope you succeed in getting some seeds!
