can you use SFDs instead of polyfill on your monotubs? or would that not provide enough gas exchange?

That being said you can definitely tape SFDs to the sides of a plastic tote.
It's just not gonna do shit for you.

I have a quick question about dunking my monotub after the first flush. I can dunk a cased sub; right? I realize the mycelium is holding the coir together, but it's not nearly as dense as the wbs. Seems like the casing could be a huge mess.
I'm sure this has been addressed, but I'm not finding it.

You can but it's not necessary.
I don't dunk bulk subs as they have a TON of water in them thru the second flush at least.
If anything, pour about an inch of water around the base, let sit for a few hours, then drain it off.
Just mist the surface until a nice fine dew layer is glistening.

If you're interested in long-term cultivation, I'd just dive in with bulk, for sure. The initial costs are a bit more due to PC, but you can get cheap and/or smaller models for relatively cheap anyway.
With PF Tek, you can get away with shooting spores into your substrate. With bulk, you'll want to learn agar. So study up on agar and you'll be a shoe-in. Specifically check out Pasty's Easy Agar Tek. Glad to have you on board.

Many thanks for the support brethren, I am indeed going long term with this and already have 6 monotubs ready, 9 golden teacher quarts inoculated with vendor syringes showing healthy growth in the incubator (With orgonite and quartz inside  ) and all the supplies ready for agar (Petri dishes, sterile gown used in surgery, surgical scalpel, agar and the malt extract, just missing test tubes for slants) and after reading your post of how that will excel my cultivation skills, I think I have found more courage to do the agar today, because you're absolutely right, its safer since you will spot contams and you will isolate better monocultures for faster growth.

Precisely, besides the motive of higher yields monotubs give you a better idea of sterile technique via the usage of a PC and going for higher skills that you will eventually come across if you want to move past the ole BRF cake tek. Take the dive, hell amazon will give you a credit card nowadays for 1000 that you can use to buy most of your stuff and you only make minor payments on it.

I started bulk, and i can honestly say it was for the better I think. Agar is stupid easy. There's not really any reason not to start with agar and bulk. I inoculated some grain jars with spores first, then some agar a few days later. My spore to grain jars did fruit, but ended up bacterial after first flush. I'm still spawning box after box with my first go at agar plates, and I been getting spectacular results.
