Grrrr first contamination in a shoebox.

What can I do for this? Any chance I can cut it out? Salt? I'm not even sure what type of contamination it is.

Performing contam surgery is usually just delaying the inevitable at best. Usually the sub is so rife with whatever is fucking it up that it pops back up immediately after.

It's tough to tell what that is through the casing layer, but I'd just harvest all  of those by the end of today and toss the tub. The only saving grace would be if those are stumps from the first flush and you cased again. Sometimes the stumps bruise bluish and can look weird as they begin to breakdown.

It's only the first flush. I also noticed I have mushrooms growing literally between the mycellium and the casing lol like snakes in there. I'm so confused as how it happened. Cased it when it was 100% and then an extra day. I actually just went straight vermiculite from the bag and did a small layer. I will harvest these guys and I'm going to dump the vermiculite off it's like dry out and inspect the mycellium for any contamination and if it's bruised heavy. There is blue on the exposed mycellium. Has anyone seen mycellium turn purple?

It seems ultra dry in there judging by the flaking of the stipe. Could definitely be bruising on the matted myc below due to super low RH.

Looks greenish in the 2nd pic. But ya. Could be brusing.

Trich has a high white contrast look when photographed that's why was unsure at first.

Right that's what I was thinking too. When I checked them this morning it was dry vermiculite and that's all I have in there lol definitely didn't retain moisture in a dubtub like it should cause I don't follow directions sometimes lol, I stuck it in a Monotub putting off 93%rh and did light misting through out an hour to add a nice water percentage without over wetting the mushrooms. Hopefully it brings back the mycellium color and gets rid of that darker color and all the light blue showing on the exposed mycellium. Think after 1st flush I should make another casing of vermiculite but get it to field capacity first? I just eyeballed it when I layered it in and misted to a light dampness.

You don't need to consolidate.

Prolonging high co2 and delaying fruiting conditions can sometimes be bad.

But with shoeboxes, you are right, it should get about enough ge with the lid on. If my myc was like that I think I would flip the lid, but I usually wait for pin formation before I take the lid off myself.

Does it have a casing / top layer ?

Technically it's already considered to be in "fruiting" stage.

I thought the aerial myc was a sign of low fae, which is why I would flip the lid for s little extra air, but I could be wrong.

Should be fine either way really to be honest, I can't really say which way would be best for you.

But definitely keep an eye on things and keep us updated, if the myc isn't getting enough air and the co2 is too high it can begim to be matted I believe, which can make fruiting and pinset a little worse and more difficult

My poll is 50/50 lol.
I have two that are exactly the same, so i'll flip one and leave the other one.

Its weird because I have a PE box undeneath this one with more restricted air, but its not spikey at all!!! Myceleium is strange sometimes.

I applied 1/4 casing at spawn, just to protect the grains.

I will upload pics of the 2 boxes when they start fruiting to see which one does better, my guess is cracked lid will fruit first but the closed lid flush will be better. Whos knows with MS tho :/

So I'm about 13 days into my shoeboxes and have to leave for 3 - 4 days. My question is, what lid configuration should I leave them on? I usually leave the lids unlatched at 10 days.. so i'm 3 days into "fruiting".

Should I just give them a good ol mist and click on side before leaving?

I would leave the lid latched on just in case there is a contam sporesplosion while you're gone. I don't think those will need a misting before you leave either honestly.

Snap the lid on that box and just walk away. Seriously, it will be fine.

Mushboy you did me right with your tea lets repeat that with shoeboxes.

left 4 - 1:3 Rye/GVG (One of these was left uncased with 0.5 qt coir, I'm a little F'D up but sanitary)

Right 4 - 1:1 Rye/GVG
lets do this bra

+ I bought 2 shallow sterlites that will hold 4 shoeboxes. May go back for another 2 to dubtub 2 sets of 4 depending on conditions.

Following the tek -2 qt spawn (meh), 2 qt sub (meh). Maybe it's a little fluffy. It's at the line on the boxes.
