Can I use contaminated jar to isolate a healthy micelium?
    #25194678 - 05/10/18 02:09 AM (5 years, 9 months ago)

Hello people,

I have 4 healthy BRF jars and one contaminated.

Can I use contaminated jar to isolate pure micelium from contamination and transfer it to grain? I can clearly see nice geometrical micelium and some scary black contamination. They are barely touching.

I am asking this because contaminated one is geometrical, while in other four healthy jars micelium is fluffy.

Or is it not worth the effort.

Thank you!

I wouldn't do it myself.

Much better use of time to get a healthy jar and use that for grain to grain instead of guessing with a risk of complete failure from the start.

I would use the fluffy but not contaminated grains for g2g before I tried to isolate heskhty myc away from a contam. I thought the contam could be all mixed in with the "healthy myc" already anyway but maybe I'm wrong, that's just me.

I heard that there are some pretty nasty bacteria and molds. If they show up in a jar, some cant be killed even by pressure cooking.

Schould I toss the jar too?

No, dump it in the trash and wash it like any other dish/cup

Grow out the three good ones. Clone a mushroom to isolate healthy mycelium
