Getting better at agar is something everyone should spend more time on.

Goddamn I fucked up my first shoeboxes bad from over-misting. Second round went much better. Just misted based on the color of the coir poking through top. If it's dark...there's water in there
Yeah with compost, i only mist when it starts turning a light brown color. When its dark its good. i like always having it dark, but not muddy.

Jars like that never do anything but go green for me. WBS looks different than oats, but still, that looks like a bad time to me.
Well it would be my first tub to go sour might as well experience it.

and in my experience, they didnt do well when i modded them for poly holes. too much fae and they dried out. straight unmodded dubs worked the best when the space was needed. fruits like APE i just leave the lid on. no need for dubbing. they get plenty of FAE either way.
How do they get fresh air?

Not to call out bill orielly but that shit happens way too much. Novice or newer growers think this shit is like a chi-a-pet.
Add the ingredients, mist it twice a day and watch it grow!
I mist solely to fine tune or adjust my surface conditions. It is not a part of cultivation the way damn near every newer grower thinks it is.
I agree 100% with this.I see all the time people having issues with shoeboxes, then I see that they've been misting "3 to 5 times a day" to get beads on their surface. The shoeboxes that I have not misted or that I have "fine tuned" using your "morning dew" misting method, have been my best yet.

What is the morning dew method your referring to? Does that mean you mist once a day every morning just to create a slight dew on the surface?
If so, even if there isn't any beads of moisture/dew on the surface at the end of the day, do you wait until the next morning to mist anyway?

You want the beads on the surface, but sometimes when I look I can't see them till I REALLY look close.(bad eyes)Just from experience I've noticed that I too had been over misting and once I changed things up,I have started to notice a difference.
Overmisted tub:

Layed off on the misting and let it do what it does.(misted lightly once every 2 or 3 days.)

Surface was fucked from overmisting, but the fruit growth was much better once the sub fixed itself.

Don't view it in lengths of time, just mist if there aren't tiny drops of water on mycelium. However, like Mushboy and many others, I really think there shouldn't be such an emphasis on misting. A lot of the time it isn't even needed before the first flush. Put flash on your phone and take a pic and examine it, it makes drops easy to see. If you really feel the need to mist and if it truly is super dry on the surface just give it one single fine mist from a few feet above and just reassess the next day.

I find that if I dont put a top layer on then the beading is sometimes minimal, but misting ruins the surface nonetheless. If you use a shoebox or even an unmodded mono and incorporate a top layer, then you should not need to mist.

I've been working on getting surface conditions right,so I stopped using liners.(plus I get frustrated trying to get them just right) This particular box had no side pins.

It's not an air tight container.
If you put a open bag of chips in a shoebox they will go stale. Fae is super important so don't seal up your totes.

That leave me perplex too...
People say shoebox arent air tight, but most full size mono arent either
