ID for Noob in Northern Tasmania. P. Subs? * 1
    #25187014 - 05/06/18 04:13 AM (5 years, 8 months ago)

Hi I'm a noob in Northern Tassie. Are these psilocybe subs? I just wasn't sure that they all were.

Habitat:
Northern Tasmania in a grassy park under Eucalyptus trees. Grass/wood chips

Gills:
Some attached, some not. White/blue/medium brown.

Stem:
5cm tall, 5-10mm wide, white with blue, reasonably solid

Cap:
1.5cm to 5cm wide, pale orangey brown to dark brown, fairly matte, little bulbs and flat ones

Spore print color:
Waiting on prints, one or two are looking dark purple so far.

Bruising:
Blue bruising on stems, around the bottom edges of the caps.

Thanks heaps!

They’re all subaeruginosa by the looks of it to me. Make sure they all bruise blue and there’s no ones that stand out to be different.

Well, I see obvious blue bruising on some of the stipes (), but the caps appear very round, dark and I can't see any characteristics in the caps that definitively say subs to me (aside obvious hygrophany (the drying out)). My bet is they are subs but a distinctive and cool phenotype. Do you have any specimens that you haven't separated? It could help to see those, or at least a photo of the gills as well as the spore prints when they're done.

Definitely looks like a psilocybe with the blue bruizing on the stems and the color and shape of the caps. so similar to cyans! Nice work

Thanks for your replies, legends.

Sorry my camera phone is super ordinary.

I was just suss on two that are a really dark brown, I've never seen anyone post pics of them that dark. I didn't know if maybe they're old or they're a different mushroom.

They seem to all be printing purple.

I was beginning to think I'd never see any as this was my 4th trip out.

Basically, with blue bruising, and purple-ish spore prints, you can't go wrong? Are there any look-alikes around Tas that do the same?
I bought 2 books on identifying but I obviously need to double check on here so I don't die.

Thanks again!

With purple spore prints and blue (not black) shroom bruising, u really cant go wrong. Just make sure the colors match. They definitely look like the ps subs ive been seeingnin other threads.

Yep.

All Psilocybe subaeruginosa

The darker capped ones probably got hit with a bit of frost or close too so the caps have been shocked.  see it all the time in southern tas.

which books?

Psilocybe subaeruginosa, looks like the season is in full swing.

I got the Field Guide to Tasmania Fungi, FungiFlip from UTAS & Ive just some random bits & pieces like the Psychedelics Encyclopedia, Psilocybin Magic Mushroom Growers Guide by T. Mack & that type of thing floating around too.
The Tas Field Guide seems comprehensive enough on it's own.

I'm so stoked I found some, such an awesome thing to just have lying around in parks, a nice pick-me-up for the otherwise cold & depressing long Winter months in Tas.
It's going to rain all this week too. I've never loved rain & cold this much!

Thanks again for your time!
