You must post more pics if it fruits. Seems like a lot of direct sun though, you'll have to keep it moist. You may notice they won't decide to fruit until a cloudy day or something. The straw will help though.

Oh yeah the main goal of it is decomposition of the straw. It will probably spread to the entire garden. I'll be adding some gold oysters to it when it warms up some more.

I've since been doing a lot of reading and work too, I planted my first orange tree (ponkan mandarin) and I'm about to till up the dirt in two long flowerbeds up front (12' x 24" and 15'x24") and then another garden on the east side of the house that's 22' x 30"
Learning a lot about compost and fertilizers but specifically I read that there's a lot of saprotrophic microorganisms in the soil and what not that help break down and decompose fallen leaves and plant matter.
That's pretty broad, I would assume some soils have more some have less of these organisms, and as such, less ability to decompose matter and gain nutrition from it.
...now that I'm about to plant several species of plants all around the house and I'm standing over the orange tree like a proud father, I find myself wanting to learn how to best take care of them.
I'm wondering if I should inoculate the gardens with coprinus comatus or something

Was planting some seeds today and uncovered a few newspapers.
The king oyster mycelium is starting to colonize the soil and straw. It even snowed for a few days after I inoculated it.
Will be adding more and more as the season goes
Edit figure I should post a pic too here's some of the indoor plants going in the garden.

I'm jealous i don't have more to contribute. I'm about to sell my house after i finish rebuilding it after the hurricane ; i had been debating putting a garden on the east side of my house, it gets sun from about 7am til 1pm, basically perfect and i was going to put comatus grains in when i prep the soil but since i'm not staying curb appeal with blooms won out, and, well inkcaps no longer seem like a good fit

Don't forget that red kong coleus on the end, my least favorite at the garden center ended up being my favorite after transplanting

I almost killed all of them. had to go back yesterday and bury a soaker hose in all the beds and add plastic vapor barrier and another layer of top soil, its hot and arid here. but i'm learning about soil ph and these are my first ever plants i planted, just put some chapel hill yellow lantanas on the other side with mexican compact firebushes and holy cow so much gorgeous color i can't believe more young people don't garden these days no one around here does thats why i'm new to it.

I'm absolutely hooked for life i have fabric pots now and i'm going to be doing some bellpeppers and garlic and onions and everything i can think of above ground rn so i don't have to wait. I have garlic thyme and basil going right now too thanks for letting me tell someone about my gardening
