patching with newly mixed casing substrate possible?
    #2517896 - 04/02/04 04:48 AM (13 years, 4 months ago)

hey guys

i wonder if i can just do some new casing mix and use it for the patching
of a casing of mine, since i do not want to irritate the fungus.

it would make sense to me, that patching soil being different from
the soil used for the casing would irritate the mycelium and confuse
it, maybe resulting in some strange things.

am i just worrying to much and should go make some sail right away?
ohm

*edit*
ofcoz i want to mix the soil like i did it in the first place!

I have heard that it's best to stick to the same substrate for patching that is used for the casing. I've tried patching coir casings with verm and had no problems...

just use a clean knife to shift the the casing material you already have from the uncolonised areas to the colonised areas...it's the fastest way to achieve what you desire.

i read about this suggestion from u already, but the problem is that
the shifting of the subtrate just revelas new already colonised areas.

so patching one spot makes the other one patchable.

see the prob?

be very delicate when you do this, only shift the top 1 or 2mm of the casing media,if there is mycelium that close under the surface of the entire casing then you're ready to fruit.
i only ever incubate for 72hours,many people seem to incubate for far to long.

thank u for hte input.

as u say that u incubate for 72 hours, how much of your casing layer
is already colonised by then?
my casingis in the incubator now for 1,5 days.

since i dont want to put theminto fruiting chamber too early...
