I know there's a true penis culture in one of these. Purchased several months apart. I will keep putting it to agar and see what happens I guess.

I'm currently harvesting one of my shoeboxes and even after the second flush there's still a ton of healthy looking pins.
The substrate has shrunk a considerable amount but since there's so many pins I'm thinking maybe I should just bottom water it for the third flush rather than dunking? Do you think that's a good idea and how long do you guys usually bottom water for?

There's a few mushrooms about a inch tall and a ton of Tiny pins left that don't seem to be doing much.

Just pour water in until it fills the sides up. Then dump it out after a few hours or so

Can i still just leave it alone with a dub tub and let it flush when using this method, like with a dunk? Or would I have to mist the surface regularly again since this wouldn't hydrate the surface like a dunk would?
I've heard that you need the pressure of dunking it under water to properly hydrate for a next flush.
And should i leave the ~inch long shrooms or harvest them and just leave the tiny pins?

I would just add water and keep everything the same and harvest when they're ready. Just mist as normal. Dub is fine.
Maybe you do need to force the sub down to properly hydrate for the next flush
I probably do things improper. Seems to work fine. I think my sub runs out of nutes before running out of water is a problem but maybe I'm wrong.

These two Penis Envy boxes were spawned at the same time.

The shoebox is doing awesome.

The boot box....

Hi, this next weekend the plan is to mix some colonized brown rice verm jars with coir verm substrate and do some shoeboxes; wondering:
-should i have the shoeboxes colonize in the dark or on a light schedule? -do you recommend using a casing layer? if so, when should i apply that? -seventy degrees good? -from the pics it looks like stacking the boxes is cool. Just want to confirm that?
I read through this thread, its pretty long though, so my apologies if these questions have already been answered and i failed to see it.

Light schedule 12/12, Casing layer is optional, if you decide to use one I normally do it right after I mix sub with spawn. When I use a casing layer I do mine between 1/4 to 1/2 inch. 70 degrees should be fine I have read others with lower temps and they do fine. It is perfectly fine to stack the boxes.

thank you. if lighting during colonization is 12/12, what initiates the fruiting versus the colonization?

To my knowledge, one of the biggest things that initiates fruiting is the full colonization of the substrate. Once its fully colonized it begins to focus on fruiting. That, along with keeping the surface glistening and providing FAE which causes evaporation off the surface which is another major pinning trigger.
