Paper filters should only really capture oil soluble things. That's why when making coffee, if you use a French press your brew is going to be more bitter because it let's the oils through whereas on a pour over the paper filter captures the oils so it'll be more clean and tea like

In the interest of science: a new Aeropress filter weighs 0.170g. Sopping wet from the faucet, it weighs 0.798g. After being used to make tea (non-psychoactive), it weighs 0.480g. So after use, it retains around 0.31mL of fluid. A typical cuppa tea is somewhere around 200mL. So we're only talking about 0.15% loss due to retained fluid.
It seems highly unlikely that a paper coffee filter could separate dissolved psilocybin alkaloids from the solution, but I'm always open to data if anyone has anything to share. Some quick research indicates that coffee filters have a pore size of around 20 micron. ( https://coffeeadastra.com/2019/08/04/an-in-depth-analysis-of-coffee-filters-2/ ) I don't know how exactly big a psilocybin molecule is, but I KNOW it's way smaller than a red blood cell, which is 10 micron in diameter and can easily pass thru a coffee filter.

It's not about the pore size. It's about whether cellulose filter has a high affinity toward psilocybin; if the psilocybin would like to adsorb onto the surface of the cellulose fibers. After all, coffee filters don't block oils based on pore size.

interesting discussion fellas
I like a french press for the tea, it's all glass and metal
ikea for like a few bucks for the small one, it's all you need unless you are making stupid big brews at once
coffee filters are ridiculously slow anyway, and if there's even a chance of absorbing anything... fuck that I say

If 6.4g PE is your 'single serving', please do not invite me to your parties lol

There was one brief mention of it buried in these pages, but I'll mention it again.
If you are like me and absolutely hate the taste of psychedelic mushrooms (edibles from the store are a different story), and you're making tea, use hot chocolate powder. Don't use any actual tea. Just boil your shrooms, then add the hot chocolate. It's the best way to cover the taste that I ever found.
On a side note, after reading some of this thread I think I may have been boiling mushrooms for longer than necessary. I've always given it 20-30 minutes, but I guess that's overkill. Then again, it probably doesn't hurt anything to give it more time.

The longer and hotter you boil it the worse the taste becomes. Your issue might be partially self-inflicted. Course grounds kept at 75-85°C for 15 minutes then filtered contain a very reliable amount of actives without anything too offensive coming in along the way.
Back when I had a poppy pod phase (I don't "recommend" opiates to anyone, but it was nice until it kind of got old) extracting stuff from dry plant matter on the regular to culinary perfection became something of a hobby so I've been trialling a lot of this stuff a lot.

Made a few batches of tea so far, the last method I simply took 2 cups of cold filtered water, squeezed a whole large lemon into the water, and added a chunk of fresh ginger (peeled). Brought this to a boil and added in my dried mushies. Left this to boil for 20 mins, removed the ginger, and continued to boil down to reduce volume for an additional 15 or so minutes. Poured contents out into a french press to separate liquid from solids. Used a press to remove all liquid from the caps.
- Will boil the water on a low simmer for 5 or 10 mins and then remove the ginger prior to adding caps next time (unless someone has experience with this and suggest otherwise, more on this lower down)
Process rendered 4 oz of liquid, that worked well, effects were definitely more intense, albeit short lived, compared to consuming the caps.
Only issue I want to bring up with this process, was some odd issues with sinuses, and some kind of "anaphylactic" response. Could just be a coincidence with increase of pollen in the area here, but has anyone had something similar from tea? Could be the ginger?
Wasn't an issue that would stop me from going forward using this tek again, just wanted clarity on what the possibilities could be.
TIA

I find that often, over about 2.5g, I need to keep blowing my nose and have more congestion than usual, plus sometimes a runny nose at the same time, which can be annoying. Not sure what that's about, as my sinus' aren't great at the best of times.

How long will actives last if you just boil them in water and then let it sit? Is this something I could do to make trippy arnold palmers and just keep it in my fridge? Maybe bottle them up to give to friends? I really love preparing things and making gifts and would love to be able to prepare a bunch.
Also, does using fresh/wet shrooms change the potency or effects of tea? I know there's a different ratio of psilocin to psilocybin, but I vaguely remember reading that heat leads to conversion between them.

Hmm, this was 5g of APE, I go hard lol. I dont recall the same issue when consuming them normally, i.e. eating. Wasnt sure if it was the ginger root.
Will test it out again and see, glad I am not the only one that has those reactions though.
