Is there anything i could salvage from this petri dish?
    #25169979 - 04/27/18 08:34 PM (3 years, 9 days ago)

Hello.

I know this petri dish is probably poorly poured and dirty as fuck but do you think i could save bits and pieces for transferring them into other petri dishes?

What about the areas indicated with red arrows?

Is that healthy mycelium?

This belongs to my first batch of pour petris. The other 9 are even worse.

They are like mini-zoos full of micro animals

Thanks.

That dish looks rough, but you might be able to salvage something if you really need to, personally I would just toss it and start a new dish. If for the sake of trying and learning you wish to proceed and try to get a clean culture I've heard about some kind of needle poke method that may be of good use in your current situation... maybe you have some mad scalpel skills, take a tiny bit off of the leading edges near your arrows and keep us updated.

I would go for it. You might need few more transfers after.

The growth below the rhizo looks suspect. I would take my transfers as far away from that as I could. Then like the above said transfer again as quick as possible once you see clean growth again

Correct. I will do it for learning.

Do you have any idea why the dish could have ended up looking so rough?

Is it my agar solution, the sterilization of it, or my not so sterile pour?

Your pour / how clean the sample/spores/clone was that went on that plate

One of the main uses of agar is for saving cultures from contamination

Then again i try to just make so many plates i can entirely avoid bad ones
