How long can colonized rye bags be stored without a refrigerator?
    #25168015 - 04/26/18 10:05 PM (6 years, 8 months ago)

How long would fully colonized rye/wbs bags last before either dying or ‘going bad’ if not refrigerated? I read through some threads and it seems common that the general consensus is a month refrigerated, but some posters said multiple months at room temp.

Just my luck ill be out of town on business for 15 days and don’t want to spawn them while I’m away.. or spawn them before I leave and have them fruit and die while I’m gone either.

If they are fully colonized place them in a clean refrigerator until you get back.

Leaving them in room temps at full colonization for 15 days will cause mycelium to consolidate the grains which can lead to a few problems like bacteria.  Consolidated mycelium will also form a blob of mycelium that will be hard to break up.
