Painfully slow colonization
    #25167369 - 04/26/18 05:43 PM (6 years, 8 months ago)

These were put to grains on 4/4. Agar wedges were put into the jars and the myc seemed to take some time to gobble up most of the agar first. The grains were prepared ala Lets Grow Mushrooms. I have used these particular jars before with success. They were pressure cooked in about an inch of water and when I pulled them out, they seemed to be a bit more wet in the bottom inch. If the grains dried out, it would have had to happen in the pressure cooker somehow. Not sure what the best water level from pressure cooking is.

about a week of growth past the black boundary

The ones that weren't tumbled have some pretty cloudy myc on top, so it seems to be reaching out for colonlization.

This one has a spot on top of it. Looks like it might be myc, but seems a bit greyer and I'm not sure how that spot would have colonized away from the rest. Toss it?

On this one, I tumbled the agar into the grains after about a week of colonization to see if tumbling offers an advantage of some kind. Tough to tell if it's doing better, but it looks like it's covering a bit more surface area.

So, thoughts? Should I tumble the rest? Break and shake? Presume there's some sort of problem and start over? Thanks

Give those a shake.  If they are bad they will contaminate instead of recover.  If they are healthy (which is what they look like to me) expect explosive growth.
