Minor Panaeolus bisporus Success with Mycolorado 2

Panaeolus bisporus This was a small project of sterilized, mix sub rounds inoculated with both clone LC and MS wedge. Through the initial flushes, the MS has far outperformed the clone LC. The clone came from a later flush of the initial grow, so that may be a contributing factor. The whole point of this grow was to use fewer sub components and to keep it simple while still getting decent results. As the rounds were top-inoculated with very little material, they took a considerable amount of time to colonize, roughly, 35-40 days. Once fully colonized, they were cased and put into fruiting. Pins started to rise at day 11 producing spotty initial flushes. The rounds were then harvested, watered and re-cased where needed, producing a much nicer second flush.Substrate1:1:1 Hydrated Coir: Hydrated Hpoo: Hydrated OatsCasing1:1:.5 Jiffy:Verm:Sand - Treated with 1 tablespoon oyster shell flour per cup of casing and pasteurized for 1 hr.FruitingTent - Steady 75F with light on a 12/12 cycle and a wick humidifier running 24/7Enjoy!

Thanks, ham! Wish the clone rounds would have come out a little better...I just noc'd up a couple pounds of sub with some spawn made from the same clone LC...

Looks to me like there is a lot of high-powered fruiting potential in these cloned genetics. Man, and I'm just speculating here, but could it be that the strains of mycelium that comprise your clone's genetics prefer a higher level of FAE than MS it originated from?

This entire round needed more FAE, however, the MS produced much better sets across the board which makes me think they just did a better job of utilizing this sub mix as opposed to the clone. Maybe the coming flushes will produce better on the clone rounds...the clone came from a third flush, IIRC.

Another great grow I almost missed!
Nice write-up also, very much to the point. Yours got by with lower humidity than mine needed. It's really piqued my interest that the 2nd flush was so much stronger than the first- especially after a good soak. Is it possible to add more water to the sub recipe? I know some recipes can hold more water than others.

Thanks, mary fairchild! Yeah, the sub could definitely been prepped wetter. I have a couple bags of sub going now that were definitely on the wet side so hopefully they'll throw a decent first flush.

yo myco, your sub is 1:1:1 Hydrated Coir: Hydrated Hpoo: Hydrated Oats. Is that sterilized and inoculated in an SAB with grains or and LI? Or is the hydrated oats your spawn added to pasteurized Hpoo and coir?

Hey Ziran,
The grain was part of the sub, all sterilized and then noc'd in front of the HEPA with LC and MS wedges. Interestingly, the MS performed much better.

do you think it would preform well with just hpoo/coir mix? or just coir? or just hpoo?

Prolly wouldn't do well without grain in some form, whether whole or flour.

So going from agar --> grains --> hpoo/coir would suck if it was mixed in well?

Communication breakdown. What are you asking? Going from agar to grains to poo/coir will work fine.

Sure. Even easier would be to deal with pasteurized substrate so you could noc it up in open air and not have to be so aseptic in your technique. You'd be working with spawn in that case and not LC, though. The LC was used as I had some issues with my tropicalis on oats and was concerned the thin whispy nature of the bisporus myc would do equally as poor...turns out I had some bad lid filters going (Ziran, is this what your were asking?). Anyway, it's still fun to play around with noc'ing grain-fortified sub with LC and getting fruit. For this to be viable, I'll have to significantly reduce colonization time and increase yield...
