Yesturday me and my brother in law went hunting Ramps. We found them everywhere down a creek bank. Any one else enjoy spring time foraging? Also can anyone identify the plant on the lower picture? I think i was told it's a trout Lilly, I think.

hunting ramps is fun and easy and they taste delicious. jus remember to be cognoscent of sustainable ramp harvesting practices as they take many years to grow and one could easily wipe out a large patch. http://ediblemadison.com/articles/view/ramps-part-2

I only pull one clump per patch. To promote future growth, and they are prolific where I am.
I could literally dig up pounds if I wanted to and still leave 75% of the patches here, there everywhere along the creek banks and up 50 yards from the water.

We call those wild leeks here. Trout lilies grow here as well.
Lately I have been spending a bunch of time in the forest and thinking about some guerrilla replanting. Taking young trees from one spot and putting them somewhere else. Might be a thought with edibles too, replant a bunch in other locations where the conditions are right but the species has not spread there on its own.

I love foraging. I just realized I don't do much of it in the spring.
I have been picking some mugwort lately, not really a foodstuff though. Stuff like mint and watercress are pretty much year round. Greens I pick most are miners lettuce and chickweed, which are drying up around here. They'll still be green if I hike in some cooler microclimates though.
I have also started finding pan cints in the lawn. Just one or two every couple days. There was one yesterday that I decided to give another day. Now I can't find the damn thing.

Yes these are ramps. First thing to grow in early april. This years cold and snow set them back a few weeks. The stems Do turn purple if they get older. I've been picking ramps along this creek for the last 5 years. I used to mow trails to the creek and this onion / garlic smell would just about choke you out.
The Lilly's grow further from the creek. I'll try to get ao.e pictures today if the rain holds off
