Is this a good size for a monotub?
    #25157491 - 04/22/18 11:43 AM (6 years, 8 months ago)

Ordering a tub and wondering if this would be too small. It is a 22.5'' x 15.25'' x 11'' - 12 Gallon tub

It will probably work fine. I use the 66 qt sterlite tubs with the lock down latches. That one seems smaller like a 48qt

Not really any size requirement, all that impacts really is how much sub and spawn you can fit.

People spawn to shoebox's which are 6qt

Shoeboxes are the fucking business by the way. Give it a shot if you haven't. Crazy easy and effective. You don't even need holes. You can spread your eggs into more baskets which means if one contams then you didn't just lose a whole tub. Lastly they're cheap as hell.

I do feel like they're good for beginning. I've never even moved on to monos myself.

It helps to have as mentioned, less eggs in one basket in case you fuck up, which also gives you 4 tubs to work on for example and learn from versus one.

Here's a link if you're interested op

It doesn't matter much what size tub you use as long as you can have at least 3-4" of substrate with 5-6" of headspace. You need that much sub to self-regulate humidity and FAE and you obviously need the headspace for your mushrooms to grow.

Meaning less than 3-4" requires more hands on maintenance...?

Exactly. Also IME, thinner subs benefit more from casing.

Gotcha, never considered deeper sub would help with humidity and fae, but it makes sense, because of the heat generated ?

You'll also get more flushes and fatter fruits from a thicker substrate.

Dude start trying. The size you mentioned is way smaller than I use (2x 14G).  I use this double tub tek and if you want any more info let me know, but it works great.  My bin setup gives huge head room but allows very close access when picking unlike some large mono bin setups.

Once you try a few times you will find that you are now a new member of the bulk clan!
