Skip consolidation on jars with a single pin?
    #25157230 - 04/22/18 09:13 AM (6 years, 8 months ago)

Have about 3 pf jars that all have one pin each and are all colonized except for a spot about the size of a dime, except for one which has been there for about a week and has now grown all the way to the lid of the jar.

Should these jars still be given a week to consolidate or can they just be thrown in the FC once all of the substrate is colonized? It's been about 4 weeks for colonization.

If you get premature pins the PF tek says skip consolidation and birth immediately. Wash off any uncolonized parts then dunk and roll careful of your pin, or just eat it.

Oh man so even if it's one small pin and there's only a small part left uncolonized? The first pin I got was from a center inoculated jar and it was when there was still a half inch left uncolonized so I just let it go. Should I have birthed that one immediately too?

Its really up to you. If you want to consolidate go ahead. See if that little spot grows in or not.

If it's growing a pin that means it's fruiting without you. Something happened, could be bacteria, that can cause premature fruiting, the mycelium trying to reproduce before the bacteria gets the best of it. Any pics? But bod is right best bet birth, run under cold tap hand rub the whole thing Down and wash away any uncolonized sub.

I'm 90% sure the problem is that my substrate is too wet and is making the bottom impossible to colonize. I'll definitely birth them today though!
