When humidifying - what elements are required for optimal environment? And what water to choose?
    #25150520 - 04/19/18 11:31 AM (6 years, 8 months ago)

I was reading about the stage in which you have the cakes in growing boxes, and its time to humidity with water spray.

I read that elements such as; C, O, H, N, P, K, Mg, S, B, Mn, Cu, Fe are required for optimal growth. And I was thinking that normal tab-water contains many of these elements, but also Cl. And Im not sure if Cl is that good for the growth of the mushrooms, so I was thinking weather distilled water is preferable, or if Im wrong and Cl is actually good for the growth. So, can anybody here give me some advice in this regard?

you could get as science like as you want and probably learn a lot but we just dunk and mist with tap water. works great. i use tap water for ALMOST everything in this hobby.

Just use some tap water and forget about elements

not that it really answers the OP's question, but I am a novice grower using distilled water for the birthing and misting of cakes. I read about tap water and immediately switched about half way through their flush. I noticed a big boost in growth after I made the swap.

Distilled water is the worst water you can use. It has no dissolved ions and minerals so it makes a concentration gradient across cell membranes and steals them. It all ends up in the same place but its kind of like if you wear contacts and the difference between using saline solution balanced with your eyes chemistry and plain water which burns your eyes as it steals salinity out of them

Thanks, I was looking for an explanation like this. And its true, the gradient forces high-concentration towards something lower. Same with all homeostatic environments and mechanisms. And to other people that replied, yes tap water it is.
