My new project!

Well, I just ordered all of the supplies for a new project here. I've came here a lot over the last year or so and I figured it's time to get involved in the community. So, I ordered some spores from an online supplier.* Just because I don't want to take the responsibility to sterilize the substrate myself I purchased a 2lb bag of pre sterilized oat berries for $13.00 for one of the spore syringes. To keep them at a proper 80 degrees I'm placing a tote bin inside of another tote bin with water in the bottom. I purchased a 100w aquarium heater for $8 and some change. I already have a thermometer and hygrometer to make sure everything's where it needs to be. Estimated shipping time between everything is around the same, 4-9 days and everything will be here! I'll keep updating here as I go, the next one I'll have some pictures I'm going to take as I go through the process. Thanks for checking out the post!

return the heater. you do not need it and if you do? old ass TiTs/heatbombs are not the way you do it. keep jars at room temp. 68-72f plz

keep the thermometer if ya want.. the hygrometer need to be in the trash(as in you dont need it) you have 4-9 days now to read the rules, and read up on more current ways to cultivate.

I've never found a hygrometer more accurate then experience. Also the whole setup seems overkill as bodi said. Your house thermostat on 69-73 would be good enough ime. All that aquarium stuff is outdated imo.

I just figured the house is around 65 usually, and I might as well give them the ideal conditions if it's only going to run me $8. I blanked when I posted that name, I knew I wasn't supposed to but I was copying over my notes I had on paper. It won't happen again though!

Incubation of (most) mycelium is optimal at 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Mycelium generates it own heat and the substrate (including grain spawn) quickly skyrockets in temperature to 5 - 10 degrees above that of ambient air temperature. 85 degrees Fahrenheit has long been known to be the optimal temperature for Psilocybin Cubensis mycelial growth. This can be achieved by setting the ambient air temperature to 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Any temperature before or after 85 degrees in the substrate slows down mycelial growth, but higher temperatures are much more dangerous as they are more conducive to bacteria and heat loving fungi.

I'm not by any means saying I'm an expert here, this is just my project idea and my first shot at using anything besides some brf jars with a kit I had bought a few years ago.

your source of info is outdated. 85f is not 'ideal'. those 'ideal' numbers where assumed by the author of whatever source you have.
for me? ideal ambient temp for my jars of grain is room temp. nobody does 85f or in the dark 'incubation' ...like no one.

Fair enough, that's why I come here! So I should just toss them in a tote with the lid off and leave them at room temp?

I'll get some pictures up in a little bit, I just have to copy it over from my phone. My pre-sterilized bag got it in early and arrived today with the spores. The bonus from the spore supplier was an extra spore syringe. The random spores were 2x Ecuadorian and a 1x Malabar. I inoculated the 2 lb bag of grain spawn with one of of the Ecuadorian spore syringes.
