Mexicana Var. Tampanensis F.R.U.I.T.I.N.G. Monotub tek??
    #24962544 - 02/02/18 06:23 PM (6 years, 11 months ago)

I have just not seen many good posts about only fruiting M. var Tamp. and either I was hoping to start a new thread purely about the fruiting of this mushie. It's amazing how many threads start with this question and within 2-3 replies boom!, people start posting links about cultivating those things that rhyme with ruffles, lol.

So, If there is a solid list of resources anyone can find that are detailed for:

Monotub Tek for Mexicana var. Tampanensis fruiting bodies/mushroom growing

Substrate options -I think it would be nice to have a central location of all or as many substrates from the most simplistic, complex, the best/worst of them and so on.

All assuming that we are only speaking of fruiting and not cultivating "duffels".

A  few questions I had also - I've seen grows for cubies that has just the most beautiful, uniform casing or subs that are perfectly flat/even pinning like mad..

But almost all of the M. Var. Tamp bulks I've seen - the casing layer looks clumpy, bumpy and all sorts of lumpy - do they prefer this type of consistency - larger particle/lumpy but in it's greater context it's relatively level  - over small particles (i.e. medium grade verm-size) with flat and level consistency?

Finally, lots of M. var. Tamp. grows' top layer / casing layer seem to be straight up WET like.. REALLY wet? Is it sort of a SUPER mist so the top 1/8th inch is SOAKED with SUPER awesome FAE (shotgun FC, with maybe a 3/16" filtered air port added?) - so it doesn't just sit and soak and wave in contams?

I seem to find answers to most of these questions in a general sense but it would be really awesome if someone could answer these in harsh detail.. much appreciated in advance guys/gals.

Cheers!

So I've had excellent success with smaller grows - little 8"x8"x4-6 inch deep Tupperware "bowls" which gave me about 8 flushes.  The first 4 dishes popped out nice even pinsets and lonely - albeit smaller - straight picture perfect Tampanensis fruits...

So I decided to try a bulk grow - a 14" x 8" (or so.. reference the pics) and everything has gone extremely well.. Except for the damn pinsets/fruiting!!!

Like usual - I used 60/40 coir/verm with some line as my casing. I do something I don't believe I've heard anyone else do before though:

I add the time the recommended level, all brought to field capacity before applying - but after adding, I forgot the water with a spray bottle with a small mister of provide ...

What I had found out one day -what this does is it makes the casing layer - the bottom1/4 - lift UP OFF of the substrate, leaving - basically - a very small storage between the casing and substrate layers. I call it the "CO2 layer" ... After 24 good I remove the excess casing and am left with :

1/4" casing layer
1/32" gap between the substrate and casing layer (CO2 layer)
And my substrate below...

PS - obviously the casing isn't hovering above the substrate lol. There are pockets..

it seems to work well.. however..I didn't do this for my bulk grow and... Sure enough I'm getting terrible yields.. as you can see from the images..

What could I do to "reset" or start a new flush and get a better pinset?????

Also of note: in the first flush, I had all side pinning even while having a liner...
I've tried extra misting with less FAE..
More FAE with less misting.. and even stopped misting and just left everything alone... Easy variation was over a week and three more days

I've actually had issues before figuring everything out with Tampanensis with fruiting and had  - startling - success by removing all lose casing, remixing the substrate and setting it back in to colonizing conditions again then re-introducojg to fruiting chamber ... But they was with small test grows.. not with this size grow and this much TIME getting to this point contamination free....

Help! Lol. I've read a billion different boards... Articles.. etc but haven't found anything to helpful..

Cheers.

Thanks a in advance

stonesun’s work is awesome. I’ve had some decent results with tamps. They do like a wet sandy casing and tons of FAE.

ahh yes.. sandy.. would it be beneficial and/or sensible to add a fine sand  to the 60/39/1 Coir/Verm/Lime?

Maybe Coir/Verm/Lime/Sand: 55/29/1/15?

Also... What's to keep the sand from just.. Settling to the bottom (top of the substrate)? Unless it's a significantly smaller proportion and it sorry of freckles the coir?

Finally, what's the best method to give a bunch of FAE alongside a "muddy-ish" Casing?

An initial HEAVY misting of the casing , an 8"-10" fan on medium in my room, and loosen up my polyfill  in my monotub. And keep a daily misting. So that there is only slight loss of moisture content of the soil..

Or muddy it up same the mist 'em like cubes afterwards?

I’ve given a dusting of sand on top of the sub and then cased on top with good results as well.  “Muddy” isn’t the term I would use but the casing does need to be on the wetter side....just don’t let it dry out.  I use a fruiting chamber but a dialed monotub or a dub tub (tub flipped upside down on top of identical tub) setup both work well.  A greenhouse or Martha with ample air exchange and high rh are where I’ve had my best luck with them.
