One BRF cake in sgfc is blue... bruising or mold? *pics*
    #25145176 - 04/17/18 09:28 AM (6 years, 8 months ago)

Some quick information
First grow, followed pf tek to a t
They have been in the sgfc 5 days so far, and only one cake has shroomies. I’m going to be patiently misting and fanning until something happens.

My question is the blue cake in the back.
I let my buddy birth a jar and the cake literally flew across the room...
I rinsed it off with room temp to cool running water and then let it dunk separately from the other cakes before they went into the chamber.

I have no issue with tosing the cake if it’s a contam, but it has no weird smell.
The only bluing information I’ve found searching relates to the cakes being dry and that’s not likely with my bottom watering dishes (tin foil) and my periodic misting and fanning through the day.

I’m still learning and would appreciate anyone experienced sharing some knowledge

-Trippy

The pic's a little fuzzy and unclear but, blue is bruising and can be caused by lots of things. Like Flying across the room.

Other note. I wouldn't fill bottom water dishes until after the pinset comes in. Stick to just misting at first.

Thank you for the reply!
Realized that the picture was pretty shitty so I took a couple more.
I’ll hold off on filling the dishes also until I see more progress

Still just looks like bruising to me, think you're ok.

Just some other things I notice.
Cakes like to be really close, like an inch or 2, to maintain humidity between them better. I'd push them closer.
If you use your jar lids to form the foil, your bottom dishes will be smaller, tighter, neater

That’s great news I was almost worried I was running out of room.
I will make a bunch of new foils today for the ones in there, then I have four more cakes to birth tonight at some point.
In your opinion how full is over full for the sgfc?
I do have 8 more jars colonizing (but with penis envy. And those are colonizing slow af though, so  the other two varieties may be harvested by then)

Fixed my bottom watering devices, I’m dunking 5 more cakes that I’ll roll and place in the sgfc after work tonight.

Does anyone have any input on where I should start if I want to transition into bulk?
Agar and g2g?

Frankly you can cram as many cakes as you can fit. Seen some people stack 2 up if they're the fat short ones.

For easiest bulk you can keep doing cakes and break them up with coir in a shoebox like this.

Agar you can do at anytime for cleaner cultures. Grains are great if you have a pc and clean cultures.

Sgfc's tend to dry out cakes. You didn't post any pictures but I can just about guarantee it's bruising.

Mist and let dry. Mist and let dry.
