Help identifying specks in monotub
    #25144545 - 04/16/18 10:40 PM (6 years, 8 months ago)

Hey all! Long time lurker, first time posting here. Just want to start by saying thank you to the wonderful community here that has enabled me to learn so much so quickly.

This is my first monotub grow, so I'm just looking for some confirmation as to what these mysterious dark specks are. This tub is 9 days out from spawning a milo grain bag to coir/verm substrate. Haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary about it until now. I've combed through a few contam threads here and I'm really hoping it's not dreaded black mold. Either way, it would be great if anyone with more experience could offer some insight as to what I should do next (how to save this, as there are some pins popping up, or if I should just abandon ship). I appreciate any and all input, thanks for looking.

Ps- This is GT ms in a 27 Quart. Temperatures have fluctuated quite a bit in the past few days, as we recently experienced an almost 40 degree drop overnight. I do have the same exact spawn/sub mix colonizing in two additional containers with absolutely no signs of funkiness. (Not sure if this is useful info at all, I'd always rather over-inform)

Welcome!
From the picture is very difficult to see anything. From here looks fine!

Keep an eye on it:pipesmoke:

The sub is knotting, keep it glistening with very gentle light misting!:1up:

Its mold. "Opinion": carefully remove with gloved hand (making sure to use the force to not move any air molecules around) and patch with pasturized coco coir/gypsum. Healthy myc should be able to recover just fine. Looks like the colony has it fairly isolated for now, and thats why its trying to throw out emergency spores (black spots, probably rhizopus(tempeh)) from such a small isolated area. Sorry for all the parenthesis.  I hope you still love me.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I read a couple mixed opinions but ultimately decided to leave it alone and keep an eye on it. The spot stayed isolated and everything else is showing nice healthy growth

And I do, in fact still love you Neutrino
