What do you think would cause this?

Hello all,
I am trying to diagnose what is causing the slow growth / not great looking pins on my BRF Cakes and in my shoebox bulk setups. I had less than ideal fruiting amounts on my cakes during the first flush, but they still put out some decent pins. After I harvested them, I dunked the cakes overnight and then put them back into the chamber. Since then, no new pins have grown and a lot of the older pins have looked like they have started to die off. . . I mist and fan multiple times a day.
The shoeboxes are a CVG bulk and were left sealed up in the shoeboxes for between 1.5 - 2 weeks until pins were sighted. The lids were then flipped and have continued to mist and fan as I thought was needed. They are just taking a long time to develop and the pinset isn't full at all. They are still on their first flush.
I feel like I am messing up on my conditions in some way and would greatly appreciate any input you may have as to try to correct this! Cheers all, I have learned a lot from this community by lurking. Thanks.

im a fellow noob and am also curious about this issue. my grow was similar and disappointing when it came to yield/duration. im def not an expert, but perhaps ur humidity is not ideal? are u using a well calibrated fancy hygrometer? also, if i were to guess id say ur mycellium is not happy with the nutrients (amount) in ur substrate. this is probably talking out of my ass, people will correct me best of luck dude

Thanks for the reply, I am not using any tools to measure humidity. I just mist when the top of the substrate looks like it's drying out... There is definitely a chance I am over watering although that could be in combination with too little FAE?
This is literally my first attempt at cultivating so I am sure there are all sorts of areas to improve. Cheers

Did you say you dunked it with pins still growing? Is that what you meant by older pins? That will cause a mushroom to abort.

Yes, There were tons of little pins still on the cakes after I harvested the mature ones. They couldn't have been more than 1-2cm when I dunked.
Hmm, perhaps I aborted all the pins that remained on the cake? That is a possibility, and it's just now working on throwing out new ones..

The cakes are probably lagging behind from the dunk with new pins showing. Live and learn, this is not the first time (or last) that this has happened to someone
The showbox looks like what I sometimes see from first flushes: weaker for the first flush, but then decently heavy for a 2nd and even a 3rd flush. I would definitely have some patience, and keep an eye on those little hyphal knots that are forming. Those are basically going to be your new pins (given the time and proper fruiting environment, they should form with no problem)
I am wondering what your RH is sitting at in that SGFC. It looks a bit dry, but I can't really see the state of the moisture on the cakes. Are you able to get us a correct reading of the humidity you are working with? I feel like you are on the right track, just possibly lacking a happy FAE/humidity medium.

Thanks for the input! Do you mind clarifying about the showing pins and dunking? I had assumed that dunking cakes and bulk while there were still some undeveloped pins was OK. Had read here that the myc keeps some pins from developing until the later flushes. I am now starting to think I may have misunderstood this point! Should I cut off ALL the visible pins in between cake flushes?
Earlier, I had made a thread regarding some bruising that was occurring on the cakes. Someone made a great suggestion of making sure the perlite was saturated so I have been trying to do that. Every few days if I feel like things are drying out I will re-saturate the perlite. I don't have an RH meter, but have been eyeing some analog ones off of Amazon. Maybe I will snag one to throw in the SGFC.
Thanks again!

Your tubs look like they're craving light. All stretched out and thin like that.

They are near a corner of a room with decent ambient light from windows, but I could certainly try bringing them to a more open area!

Please for the love of god, don't buy the cheapest hygrometer on amazon.
Do you have holes on the bottom of your sgfc?
Do you live in a dry climate? If so you shoeboxes may be too dry, my suggestion would be putting your shoebox into the sgfc if you dont have the ability to keep eyes on what it needs all day.
What kind of light you using?

His shoeboxes look like that from a lack of light and fae. Note they're stretching towards the cracks between the lip and the lid of the box. They're aiming for light and air. The trays need more fae and light bro. The surface hydration/misting looks fine to me.
As for the cakes, they need more light, but the fae looks alright to me.

So I wanna make sure I understand.
Since they move to the cracks you think it's FAE to? Usually a flipped lid on an unmodded tub is plenty FAE ime, leading me to think light.

It's all of it. That's what a neglected shoebox looks like.
Give her air and light captain! She can't take much more!

Do you see the skinny, stretched and long af stipes? Lack of fae for sure. The small ass caps are from lack of light. The fact they're going to push the lid off soon, as they come out of the tray is also a given that they need more fae. Proper looking shoe boxes have shrooms growing straight up. When they're pushing themselves in different directions needing more resources, the environment is definitely lacking.

Thanks. I really thought the long and skinny could result from just lack of light since they grow towards light. Appreciate the correction and explanation.

Thank you all for the input! It sounds like an overall consensus that the shoeboxes are needing more fae and light. I had read the shoebox thread and others and assumed that the flipped lid/dub would be enough. Everyone's environment is a little different and the way I had my tubs configured they were in an area that was somewhat blocked from light and restricted the air movement. I dub'd them all today and have since relocated them closer to windows. I also will align the top shoebox staggered so there is more available fae when I am there to mist. If I have to leave them for any extended amount of time I may mist and then tighten up the fae some to make sure they don't dry out on me.
Are there any other thoughts on the cakes? Is it a bad idea to dunk with small micro pins still on the cake? They automatically get aborted it sounds like?
Really appreciate the help, cheers all. Hopefully this can help others as well
