Bubbles in agar
    #25144309 - 04/16/18 08:29 PM (6 years, 8 months ago)

Got some bubbles in some places I poured the majority of them.

It's not contamination it's just air bubbles that didn't pop or whatever for whatever reason.

I tried pouring slow and fast same thing happened.

Any way to avoid this? Makes it kinda a bitch to see :frown:

BTW this isn't one or 2 bubbles were talking an 8th of my dish is bubbles.

I find if I swirl too hard I get bubbles but they usually dissipate if left to rest for a sec or two.  Pouring cooler also helps.  You could also pop them on the plate with the lip of the media bottle but I’d try to avoid having to do that.

I do swirl pretty hard :takingnotes: the bottom tends to solidify before I can finish pouring them all.
I try to go for the lowest temp.

I couldn't and wouldn't pop those with the bottle lol.

Same thing happened to my last pour, I just recently switched to MEA and I assumed I’d poured it to hot/fast (I was kind of in a rush).

So far it doesn’t seem to be affecting the transfers negatively, but I’m keeping a close eye on them.

Hmm...seems excessive.  Maybe pour a tad warmer or quicker if possible so as to not have to agitate so hard at the end due to it setting.

:whathesaid: pour a little hotter and don't swirl it so hard. if you do, wait for a minute before pouring.

I've found an IR thermometer really helps alot. Not sure how accurate it is, but you can
get the feel after a pour or two.

i bought one and used it for a while. i still use it when i can find it but really, you don't have to be too precise. using it and testing shit out i found that anywhere between 150 and 110 will work just fine. even lower really but it will start to gel up.

I agree. I've poured everywhere between 120 and 140 and as far as condensation goes I haven't
noticed much of a difference. Condensation happens.
