Cakes Not Pinning

Hey all! My aunt is a (very) amateur cultivator, and she has been having a lot of trouble getting some brf cakes to fruit
She has had this one in the SGFC for only 7 days but after her last cake failed to ever pin (after 2 months), she decided she'd ask me for help while she still had a chance.
She tells me she fans and mists at least twice daily and that her digital hygrometer reads consistently above 95% and 72oF. She knows this is a poor measuring tool, but also feels it's better than having nothing or "trusting your tek" as some posters believe.
The cake in question was a prime specimen during colonization, and after a 24hr dunk and roll in dry vermiculite, she thought she had been doing everything right. She is just feeling frustrated and doesn't want to lose another one of her mycelial buddies due to age and lack of pinning.
Pictures follow:

Well maybe your aunt should post since she has experience. Bro just go with it, no ones that stupid we know it’s you SWIM. No one cares if you grow, your not a politician or a statesman. No ones cross examining your email accounts to find sites like this. Be proud of what you do, don’t cower like a dog whose shit the floor and pissed the bed. We appreciate honesty here

humidity is too high. let it get between 60-80% Give it some fresh air flow too. like actually fan it here and there those holes aren't any good if the air stays still.

I'll give it a try! Do you know if there are any quick signals that I should recognize to redunk and roll (I really don't want to lose this girl :c)?

It hasn't been that long
I would say continue as you're doing and keep the perlite moist. You have more cakes...?

Yes, but I wanted to do trial and error in case I did something wrong, so I'd still have backups.

To focused on humidity and enviroment instead of surface conditions. Make that thing glisten instead of looking at a gauge

Is there a better way to mist to ensure glistening? Before, I had sprayed evenly throughout the chamber, then tried misting evenly with more attention paid to the cake, and now I've been trying misting the perlite directly and then misting the entire chamber a couple of times for good measure.

Mist the cakes directly. Dont worry about spraying the chamber walls, the overspray will keep perlite damp. Think of it as morming dew on the grass.

Your temperatures are fine at room temp. You can fruit in 50F or 85F. Your humidity is nothing to really look at, 50%-100% rh fruits. The surface is whats needed focus

Fanning is outdated, as long as the sgfc is proper setup air moves itself. Need to make sure it is elevated and all. Air needs around the sgfc 360 degrees, as for the holes in a 2inch grid.

That cake might be happier with some friends also. Will help make aome microclimate to help. A single cake will dry out and need more attention than a group

WOW!! Thanks for all the great advice, I will definitely be following what you said from now on. I guess I thought they would need more attention, not less in groups, but I didn't have any reasoning other than water competition (which I understand doesn't make sense now).

It also seems like from that forum you linked that more frequent misting, as opposed to heavy misting is preferable (?)

Exactly. You dont want them saturated. Glisten and evaporate, repeat. Once pins are developed a bottom watering technique will keep the cakes hydrated for fruits to grow full

I use a garden sprayer. When i mist it is literally 2 seconds. You dont mist to wet the cakes. The dunk and roll is what hydrates them. The mist is literally to control surface moisture. The evaporation triggers pinning. You want small beads to glisten, imagine a fine spray on them like you sneezed.

Ama420's right, misting them heavily creates a micro climate around the cakes to keep humidity as high as possible. It should work out, maybe do a few cakes next time, more cakes will keep the humidity up a little bit too! plus more is always better imo lol.
