Time to fruiting, and a couple more ?'s
    #25142869 - 04/16/18 09:19 AM (6 years, 8 months ago)

So I just birthed my first cake out of six B+'s to an MMGG 3.2-style terrarium w/~95% humidity holding strong and an incandescent bulb on the clear top. I dunked it for a couple hours and rolled in verm (it was still fairly moist when I birthed it or I would've dunked longer). I've read pinning takes about a week to begin, so I was wondering how long the average cake takes from birth to harvest. This cake colonized much faster than the others, with one projected at about four days behind and another about six based on their growth rates.

I'm a complete noob and I feel like I did things basically right, followed the tek and all, but this site has more updated info and feedback, whereas erowid does not.

For my next run (of GT's) I plan to use a monotub styled after Bod's unmodified monotub tek, so while I'm here I'll ask about that to. Has anyone used it as a fruiting chamber for cakes w/field capacity perlite for humidification? Or is the sgfc better for cakes? I'm looking for a more "fire and forget" fruiting chamber.

For cakes measuring humidity is usually detrimental for new growers. Just pay attention to the cakes/mushrooms.

Cakes fruit great in 50-80% humidity. The vermiculite you roll then in creates a microclimate close to the surface of 90-99% humidity.

Fresh air is far more important than humidity.

Erowid has garbage for cultivation info old shit. Paul's books are littered with outdated info and bullshit.

Cakes enjoy being crowded together in fruiting chambers

Perlite is a rock it doesn't really have a field capacity so to say. Water just coats the surface of the small rocks
