Stalled PF Classic cakes, seeking advice.
    #25102269 - 03/30/18 01:33 PM (6 years, 9 months ago)

Hello! I have 6 cakes of Pf classics sitting in a SG fruiting chamber.
They've been there for 11 days, with no pins.

Backstory:
Mycelium colonized to 100% in all jars and were left 1 week to consolidate.
I unexpectedly had to travel, and my jars sat in the fridge for a week to delay fruiting while I was gone.
I put them in the fridge at the earliest signs of pinning.

When I came home, removed them, slowly brought them back to room temp over 4 days.
(fridge was 40*, first day out sat in garage at 45*-50*, second day in closet at 55*-60*, third day in 60*-65* room, fourth day in 72* room)
After the fourth day I dunked for 24 hours.

Coated in verm, placed in SGFC on foil circles with moistened perlite 4 inches deep.
Added the taller red stand after day 1 for better airflow underneath the chamber.
I've been lighting 12/12, misting 3-4 times a day, fanning 6-7 times a day.

Current:
I've had some signs of activity, but no pins.
Mainly cottony mycelium appearing around the tops of a few cakes.
I think I read somewhere that when this occurs, the cakes are looking for air. Is this accurate?

Advice:
Anybody have any apparent strategies that I could employ?
Should I fan more or maybe leave the top off occasionally?
I'm not in a rush, so none of this comes from impatience.
Just want to make sure I'm doing everything I can for success.

I've read people mention PF classics with frustration. What are the symptoms that occur when a cake aborts?

looks fine to me. just give it time, and mist when it needs it and you'll be fine.

So I think I overfanned and haven't yet gotten a recipe dialed in.

Basically I've had one cake flush, another cake do okay, and 3 cakes show pins that have since aborted.

All of my pins have been from the bottom. This is a sign of low-humidity, correct?

Should I dunk my cakes?

If your cakes are dry or light it would not hurt to dunk for 6-12hrs then put them back into fruiting. Now a lot of people will say not to roll in verm again but if you're like me and rinse your old verm off before dunking again then, me personally, I re-roll in verm. Hopefully your next flush will show more fruits. Also in a SGFC there is no need to fan as it creates its own FAE. Happy shrooming!:goodluck:
