Doesn't adding those make an HDMI TV a "smart TV" just not bundled up like a true smart TV (like the TCL with Roku built in)?

Any modern TV is going to have HDMI and is likely to be "smart."

If it's NOT smart, its very simple to add Apple TV, a firestick, Roku, etc.

I'd recommend you focus on the TV, because the quality of the "smart" features can vary. For example, streaming Netflix through my blu-ray player is more pleasant than streaming it directly through my TV. Similarly, streaming Pandora through the blu-ray is better than streaming it through my stereo receiver.

So a TCL smart TV with Roku built in would not be compatible with other stuff available like a firestick or chromecast?

But as u might know, Fire sticks require a HDMI port: https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Fire-TV-Stick-With-Alexa-Voice-Remote-Streaming-Media-Player/dp/B00ZV9RDKK

Its better to just get a HDMI TV with a USB port then a Smart TV. But then again, the line is pretty blurry between the two as of now. The smart TV can do more exotic things as there is special software built it. Think of it like a simple computer/TV hybrid.

But if u get a regular HDMI, u can get more visual quality for around the same price, which is more important in my opinion.

I see. So an HDMI TV has no wifi connectivity til I plug the firestick in, THEN it can let me use my Amazon Prime benefits such as videos? Is the wifi built into the firestick then? This part I don't get which was why I was inquiring if a smart TV is better?

Some reviews on Amazon have mentioned that firestick would disconnect or freeze sometimes...

I guess its wifi connectivity is problematic but I do like the fact that I can take it with me while on vacation in case I want to watch on the go at hotels (if the hotel actually has HDTV with HDMI).

Cheapest smart TV I've seen brand new is about $139. HDTV with HDMI $79, plus firestick $39 ($118). A few dollars difference. Just wondering because I think smart TVs would probably have better wifi connectivity?

I think you meant firestick require HDTV with USB? Not necessarily HDMI?

But I'd still need a TV right? so HDMI out from laptop into the HDMI in of the TV?

If you have a laptop or computer with HDMI out you can use it as an HTPC. It's the modern equivalent to pirate cable boxes.

Ugh. God damnit. All this technology has gotten way too far. You have a COMPUTER to browse amazon prime. CONNECT the damn computer to the TV. Why do people need the internet inside their tv??? Why a fucking wifi chip inside a tv???

Sorry, I know I'm a little off topic.

Made up my mind, might just get an HDTV with the firestick, considering Amazon Prime is who I have a subscription with.
