Steriled grain bag to jars question.

Ok so first off I don't have a PC yet. I have steamed sterilized brf jars with success. I also have bought 3 lb grain bags and innoc with spore syringes with success..
I use a SAB for all my sterile work. I have a 3lb bag of colonized grain. I also have a 3 lb bag of sterilized grains..I want to do a g2g.
My delimma is that I want to transfer my steriled grain to qt jars then g2g with my colonized bag. Will this work? I was planning to transfer all the sterized grain first then reopen the jars a second time to g2g. Inside the SAB of course.
If I had a PC then I would just sterilize my grains in the jars. But I have found a good vender for the grain bags that I have had great success with and it costs me what the grains would if I did it myself.
Should this work or am I asking for contams? Anyone else attempt this before? I did many searches but everything I found was people g2g from bag to PC jars. Thanks.

No PC for the jars is asking for trouble

Before you start...Do you have a Pressure Cooker and a Dehydrator? I highly recommend getting both!

No worries Tormato..I don't even have a PC
I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried this. I want to continue my grow with this strain. I could always do prints as well but I want to try g2g. Im a noob and want to experiment all I can.

My advice....get a PC...do it right...spare the heartache

if i'm understanding you correctly, my answer is: if you managed to properly steam sterilize your empty jars and maintained sterility throughout the process then yes, it would work. BUT. it seems like a horrible idea. what exactly is the point of adding all of the extra vectors (contam opportunities)?
it would be safer to g2g a little bit of your finished bag into your new bag and skip the whole empty jar thing. bag to bag transfers are a royal pain in the ass in a sab though.

That would be great but I do not have a way to heat seal the bag closed again. Unless I use a lighter lol..is there a way for me to open the pre-bought bag and reseal it?

if there is room you can twist it up and use a zip tie or twisty tie thing.

you'd want to cut it open with a flame sterilized blade

Buy a PC, an impulse sealer, grain, agar, bags and do it right. I assumed you have a dehydrator, if not buy that too. It's worth it.

I agree it can be done. A flow hood would be best for this IMO tho.

Inject sterile water into the bag, and suck it back out very carefully... with injection port facing down the whole time so the water pools... then inject the myc water into sterilized sugar water to make Liquid culture.
Shake the bag before injecting to break off some myc bits.
Use the lc to inoculate, after testing that it is a nice clean culture.

I don't know how to pm..or else I would..can u pm me?

you can still use the bag. you just suck the water out and then use the bag like normal as spawn. liquids a finicky so be AS STERILE AS POSSIBLE if you attempt this.

Generally when I do this, and it is because I am lazy (not the best method - but sounds better then making agar, petri dishes, and on and on) I will shake up the bag, inject something like 12ml from a syringe, and then recover 3-6ml back. The rest of the water gets lost or absorbed or can't be sucked up - but another shake and it is distributed and absorbed into the spawn - which is able to be used no problem.
strongly suggest doing it right before spawning to bulk in case it does add contams, as it won't matter much at that point.

why not pump a whole bunch of sterile water in and get a lot more myc water out? i use a LOT more than 3-6 cc's when noccing up a huge grain bag.

yeah. i use lc usually but it's the same principle. the more you add the more inoculation points starting out. this equals faster colonization which is always good. getting a huge bag colonized in a week and a half is way better than letting in colonize for a month.
i prep my own grain though. you can only add as much as the grain can take or you'll end up bacterial. so, when planning to do a batch of bags that i know i'm going to use my lc on, i prep it dry enough that it can handle a lot of liquid. i've used up to 160 cc of lc into a five quart (full quarts) bag but i do not always use that much. my last batch got around 80 cc's and is doing wonderfully.

I was thinking in requards to just making the LC from the bag, for later expanding out and testing to make sure it is an axenic culture.

oh. okay. that makes sense. not much is needed to start an lc but i only start lc's from agar.
