Autoclaving a PRE hydrated - Coco coir brick
    #25136554 - 04/13/18 06:42 PM (6 years, 9 months ago)

Good day to all ...

Just a quick question in regards to Coco Coir and trichoderma

Would placing the -dry brick- into a sealed bag and autoclaving kill off any trichoderma
before hydrating the brick with water ! .....

Would that work ?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the fast response J-A-N

I was to believe that Trich was the bane of mycologists.

Would you say the Trich problem is been over exaggerated

or am I been to over cautious

Thanks again

99% of the time if it trichs out its not the coir, but the spawn.  The bucket tek works just fine

I used to think it was the coir. The 2 most common causes IMO/IME is over hydrated grains, causing faulty grain spawn, and/or over hydrated substrate, which promotes contamination and slows down mushroom mycelium. Some struggle with the mold, some don't. A flow hood helps if you have really bad luck, but that's a BIG investment and does not guarantee anything as you still have to have good tek.
