Mycelium Transfer?
    #2513597 - 04/02/04 12:36 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I have a question about the possibility of transfering some mycelium substrate to another jar. Assuming you have already pressure cooked a pf jar, is it possible to chop a chunk off of a pre existing fully colonized cake and place it in a pre-dug hole in the center of the substrate of the newly pressure cooked jar? Wearing sterile gloves, keeping a sterile environment, ect. Would this produce the same effect as the spores? Considering they reproduce by spores, and this is more or less a fragmentation method often used with organisms from the kingdom plantae. Thanks in advance,

yes it can be done. look up grain to grain transfers. It requires a highly aseptic enviroment, best use a glovebox or a flowhood.

You might have better luck removing a sample of mycellium, putting it into a jar of peroxide and shaking it up well enough to break it up and spread the culture through the peroxide solution. That could then be used to innoculate clean pf jars using a nice big needle and syringe like the ones for injecting marinating meat.
