Pouring PF-Jars * 1
    #25135442 - 04/13/18 10:37 AM (6 years, 9 months ago)

Introduction
This is for anyone in a position where you don't have a PC and are using PF Jars, but starting agar and want to pour clean LC's, LI's & Slurries. Using the jars you have and a filter we can do this. It's a good way to practice new Teks while saving up for a pc. It's also a good way I've found to deal with Pints.

What you need
SAB
Filter Material - This can be SFD's, Tyvek, your choice.
LC, LI, or colonized BRF Puck
PF Jar Supplies
  • Jars & Lids w/ 4 innoc holes
  • BRF
  • Verm
  • Water

What To Do
Follow the regular PF Formula 2:1:1 Filling jars to the usual thread line or slightly less. If making a Slurry leave a little extra open space since they tend to be thick. Here I'm using half filled pint jars.

Now here's the mod. Skip the Dry verm layer. Put on your 4-Holed PF Lids(rubber ring down!) with SFDs or Tyvek slips in place between the 2 metal parts of the lid; or tape Tyvek pieces over your 4 Innoc/GE Holes. Add your Foil and Steam.

After jars have cooled Prep your Sab, Break up your LC or blenderize your Agar plate or BRF Puck, Pour It!
Here I'm blending the interior tissue of a mushie for LI.

Having a filter lid on glass jars also allows putting agar or brf pucks in them and attach to a blender for LI. Here's agar wedge on agar jar.

Why It Works
Typically the dry verm layer acts as our filter for PF Jars, but limits us to injecting. By replacing the verm with a lid filter we open the top surface of our cake to pouring.
