Wbs slow colonization

Hey guys, I've been lurking on here as a non-member for some time. Love the information on this forum. Anyways this is my first time posting and had a question about my wbs jars. I used "strobes no fail wbs tek" and inoculated my jars 3 weeks ago in a SAB. Its been pretty cold the past couple weeks here in north Texas but I've kept my apartment between 70-75 degrees throughout the whole time. After 3 weeks I'm finally starting to see some minimal mycelium growth but it seems to be growing wayyy slower than normal compared to other's experiences. I've included a pic of the best two jars I have so far. Is it normal for mycelium to grow this slow sometimes? They're golden teacher spores I received from spores101. Any input is appreciated, thanks! http://

Umm,possibly bacteria but 3 weeks like that is pretty bad, go back to the drawing board. Look into agar for clean myc then xfer them to grain.
It happened to me in the beginning of the year no jars had growth either even with agar,Wasted 8 jars. if you can remember your process you can see what you did wrong, for me, I didn't wait long enough to cool my jars thought it would be fine but it possibly killed the myc cause it was still too hot or it could of been something else. Learn and grow

Yea I finished PC'ing about 12am the night before kept them in the cooker and inoculated at around 6:30am that morning. I think they may have still been too warm. Oh well, can't get good at something without some trial and error.

Could of shocked the mycellium with the warm temps, shoulda just waited a few extra hours for room temp grains and I'm sure you woulda had more growth at this time.
Better luck next time and welcome to the forums man.

Thanks shrooms4life, good to be here. If it doesn't get much better by next week should I just scrap the jars?

If innoc with spore its usually slow in germination. And spores solution mostly bacterial.
I suggest to obeserve them. And shake them at 30-50% colonization if they can recover.

Three of the jars I have are now above 80% colonized! Took a long time but patience is showing it's benefits. http://

I didn't see anything red when looking at them in person. Are you talking about the top right area of the left jar? I just inoculated wbs with a spore syringe. This is my first go so I haven't tried agar.

I used this tek that called for vermiculite in bottom. I won't be using it next time due to how long this process has taken. Could've been my spores, no clue. It's taken 7 weeks now to get here. http://https://www.shroomology.org/forums/topic/337-str0bes-no-fail-wbs-tek/

Here's a close up of that one jar. I see the pinkish spot you were talking about. I never noticed that yesterday when I took the pics. I'll check it out later http://

https://www.shroomology.org/forums/topic/337-str0bes-no-fail-wbs-tek/

i dislike that tek for 4 reasons.
reason the 1st- spelling errors.
Quote:
if not completely iliminate any contamination
you can have awesome grain prep and still fuck it all up. your inoculate is just as important.
reason part 2,
Quote:
The sunflower seeds can be over hydrated, and cause bacterial growth
sfs are really easy to hydrate. millet will burst way before sfs will. they just dont hold much water.
#3

reason the fourth? shroomology
your jars took 7weeks?? spawn them if ya want but i would of tossed them last month

Yea when googling all this stuff I got the two websites mixed up lol. You think even if they're fully colonized without any signs of contams that they would be bad because of how long they took? I was thinking it might've been the erratic weather here in north Texas the past two months. (Hot then cold then freezing then warm). I just have had them in the cabinet above my fridge and then when I moved a few weeks ago I put them in a box high in my closet. No incubation chamber or anything like that. I've done an alright job keeping the house at least 70 but here and there it dipped into the mid to high 60's.

id say the 7weeks to colonize IS a sign of contams(potentially) no cube jar should ever take that long.
some models of fridges have the motor on the top, producing heat. bad place to stash jars fyi.
