Whereas I was previously looking in areas like this:

There's definitely heaps of mushrooms to be found in the latter but I reckon the magical ones are rare here. They love the artifical woodchip that gets laid in public parks. I spent a good hour walking along a paved concrete path and scanning the chipped beds along the side. Glad that I have a better idea of what to look out for now.
They like growing along paths these psilocybes, they want us humans to find them

If you listen enough you can hear them calling you to them.

Yeah so strange, any I’ve found have been on the side of paths, or under tree canopies near roadways.

I'm not an expert so I'm unable to ethically comment on those photos, but what i can advise is always spore printing your finds, even those if they're still viable, by doing this you will allow the experienced contributors to make a much more accurate genus and species assessment for you.

The humble result of my first haul.

So they're in there with a desiccant. That deals with moisture but in terms of the trapped oxygen, how long could these feasilby last without potency loss? I've read of putting them in ziplock bags, sucking the air out with your mouth and then resealing them. Should I bother with that or is what I've got going enough?

Hi fellow mushroom lovers. I am new to the world of foraging and identifying shrooms. I found a few mushrooms today and would be hugely appreciative if you could help me ID them.

Got plenty more in the bag
Well done TJ! I'm going to have to expand my hunts beyond pine, those are beautiful and very large compared to what I'm finding out there!

They're a Cortinarius sp. In future, make a separate thread for id purposes.
Welcome to the Shroomery!

It's crazy. I revisited my spot today and found even more patches of subs, just growing right beside a walking path. I shouldn't complain but it's taken some of the excitement away of finding them when they're so abundant haha. Exploring pine forests is more fun! You don't get weird looks from strangers while you try stand inconspicuously with a brown bag and scissors in your hands as they walk past.

Once your at a patch, dont stand around. Thats conspicuous. Do what you gotta do and ignore everyone else. Its hard, i know. My hands shake when taking photos. A guy came up and asked my what i was doing not long ago. I just said photographing mushrooms. We exhanged a few words and he went on his merry way. It turned out fairly well except my hands were shaking and i started to sweat a bit afterwards.
Take your photos and do your picking. Minding your own business. Dont stop what your doing in the middle of it and dont loiter. Those i think make it worse. Im trying to get the hang of this stuff myself, those are my tips.

Yeah I pretty much reached that point after the third or fourth persons past me. I was snipping some and putting them in my bag when this dude on a bike snuck up on me. I just smiled at him and kept on going. Not giving a shit is key right. Honestly, if someone asked me about what I was doing I'd probably straight-up tell them about the mushroom's magical properties. Might spark a bit of curiousity in them.

Yes they guide us to their patches with mental pictures, feeling their presence and our intuition. Cheeky buggers..

Hey everyone...
Been following this thread since early May after failing to find anything just north of Jenolan in the pine forest. We went back up a few times over the last couple months and haven't found a single sub... lots of amanitas the first time we went up.
It was still pretty hot fairly late in the year so thought we'd just keep an eye out.
We've just had a shit load of rain down here in Sydney over the last two weeks and now it's going sunny for a while... anyone have any recommendations or any red flags before I head up again? Drivin up to the mountains in the next couple days.
Thinking I might check out Hampton State forest and the pine forest north of Jenolan while I'm up there.
Cheers

Anyone been having much luck in Sydney? I'd expect so with all this rain. Might have to check my old patch
