I think I saw tiny knots forming today on uncased, so I put both trays to FC.

Hey Davido!

How you doin?

I've got first pins on my cased tray. But I can't say I was strictly followed what I say about fanning and misting. And also I cover both trays with casing again (anyway cased and uncased trays were looking just the same), coz it seems to me like tray surface was drying. I try to mist it more but then I've got problem with exceed water, like small ponds. Also my trays shrink. I thought this is because of drying and dunk em for couple of hours, but lately I found RR post where he says it is because of shrooms "eating the substrate". Anyway, I dunk my trays and cover em with coir. Casing solve my exceed water and drying problems. Temperature: 20-22 night; 24-26 day. Humidity according to my digital Humidity/Temp reader was about 30-40%% in FC most of the time, but since casing layer were wet it's not bothered me. Three-four days ago I decided to rise RH to 60%. Maintaining this humidity level allows me not to mist FC or trays for couple of days. Simple misting rule for me: mist when notice first drying discoloration on casing.
I use my side fan (PC cooler) for faster air replacement maybe once in a day or two. Almost all FAE were going through tiny holes (3-4mm) on sides and lid of FC, and through opened lid (like in BOD's tek).

And on the 13th day of spawning (9th day in FC) I've got these bébés on my first ("cased") tray. I expect to see same on second one tomorrow since there is one day span between spawning the first and the second trays.

Well, I guess this is all about how I grew it. I don't pretend this is must-follow-tek, it's just how I get this done. As you can see it's mostly intuitive.

Wish you luck with your project!

Hi Mike!

Looking good there  Nice to see the progress. I notice you dont have any lining (perlite or whatever) on the bottom of your FC. I guess it dosnt matter so long as your humidity is correct right?

Well I got my PC and have got 4 jars of oats inoculated with GT, 1 with Lions mane and 3 more with BRF/Verm for Pink Oysters. My last oysters were pretty successful (pasturised straw in a bag, grain spores purchased online) and I got some prints so I'm hopeful of at least those working.

For all I'm going to use a coir substrate. Maybe with some verm but im not sure. I think I'll keep it all as simple as I can.

I followed BODs oat tek but I think I overcooked the oats as they all clumped together. Separated em out in an imprompotu SAB so heres hoping I didnt introduce any new 'friends' into the grain as well as my GT! Probably did but hey, the more failures, the more I learn what not to do :p

During my first grow I used LECA since it's not easy to find perlite here less than 50kg bag. I found it extremely necessary when fruiting cakes, but not so when it comes to trays with casing. Cakes drying very fast, but trays with coir (or verm+peat moss) hold the moisture. So yeah, I decided not to use LECA/perlite. Spawn holds enough within and casing prevents fast evaporation. As I said before all I need is just to keep casing layer moist and mist it when notice first drying discoloration.

I've also got problem with my first rice batch being sticky and clumped. So after dunking and boiling second batch I spread all grains as thin layer on FC lid for couple of hours to let in dry. It makes it not so sticky and after sterilization in PC rice become more crumbly and all clamps fall apart after good shake.

Ahhh yeah good idea! I should have dried em out before sterilisation! Next time. Do you think that the mycelium will penetrate a clumped jar of oats?

I'm curious; can you just crumble up a colonized cake into a substrate without harming it? Why go the cake on perlite method if you can just break it up into a substrate?

Well, I think (and hope) clumps not a problem for myc. It will just take more time. I have four B+ jars with huge clumps in em. They looks fully colonized to me and I'd glad to mix em with sub, but I have no place to fruit em yet. Have to wait till my GT gives me their flushes. But when it will come to breaking em into substrate I'll tell you were they fully colonized or not. But I guess it will take at least couple of weeks, so I afraid they start pinning right in the jars pretty soon. I have one tray with B+ grains mixed with coir 10 days ago. It in dark place, under lid, but I'm afraid I'll see first pins everywhere soon. I can put it in fridge, but fridge is too biohazardous place.

I hadn't try to break cakes because of my laziness. I just put four cakes in tray like square and fill the empty space with verm+moss. Cakes were very close and easily establish connection between each other. But yeah, I saw some treads here when people put their BRF cakes into zip lock bags and crush em before mixing with substrate.

Hows the grow going Mike? Would love to see some pics

My GT grain spawn attempt seems to have failed miserably; no mycelium at all after 10 days, whereas my Lions Mane (in same grain, inoculated same day, kept in same cupboard) seems to be doing fine. Wondering if my GT spore print wasnt viable for some reason as thats the only variable between the 2 (bought the Lions Mane spawn online).

Pink Oysters are doing well too. Had a panic about some pink mycelium in all 3 of my jars but ive been reassured that a bit of pink with these is OK. Cant wait to fry 'em up

Reading Stamets' Mycelium Running at present - very informative!

Hi Dave!

I've got about 460g from first GT flushes. Cased tray gave me ~260g, and "uncased" tray about 200 and 83 of it is sidepins. Small shrooms but nicely potent.

I makin lemon tek mushroom tea of it. About 100g fresh shrooms and 100ml of water + 2g of citric acid. Nice taste, no nausea. Tested it on Saturday (10g fresh) and Sunday (50g fresh).

And here is a part of my first B+ flush I've just harvested. It's 102.5g.
