BRF Cakes to mini mono dilemma

I have 10 1/2 pint cakes going. 5 of one strain is going strong and basically fully colonized. 3 of another strain aren’t quite ready except one which has grown tiny mushrooms in the jar and another 2 are struggling but about half colonized. Should I just birth them all, rise off any unused brf cake and spawn to sub.... or wait until it’s all colonized. Any experienced knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would wait until they are all colonized. You don't want to waste what will most likely be healthy spawn by brushing off uncolonized sub and birthing early. The one pinning in the jar should be fine to wait a little.

IMO you could birth those 5 which are ready plus the other one which is growing pins. Wait for the rest to be ready as trying to birth cakes with uncolonized substrate is always a big mess, opening up the doors of so many nutrients to contaminants is calling for trouble.
I'm guessing your going to fruit all in the same chamber? just group them by strain and then by fruiting date so you can keep track of progress.
Good luck!

Is the pinning one fully colonized? Definitely wait on the 50%

I think OP is trying to make a mini monotub not birth as cakes, judging by the title of the tread.
OP, if you are indeed fruting as cakes then listen to Madoxx

Spawn what you have fully colonized, fruit the cake with pins, wait for the rest.

If the pinning one is fully colonized, you can pick the fruits and then shred, or fruit. Your choice. If it isn't fully colonized it's a sign of contamination.

I’ve had jars pin that weren’t 100% and didn’t have contams. Think it may have been more moisture than the other jars. Could be a sign of contams though...

You can spawn cakes to a bulk sub when they reach 100% colonization, but I would wait a few more days to let them consolidate. If you spawn the cake that is pining right now it will take a long time to colonize a tub because its not a lot of spawn.

I'd say 2-3 BRF cakes per quart of sub

A 1:1 ration of spawn to sub is always recommended to speed up colonization times. You can probably get away with a 1:3 ration of spawn to sub though. 1:3 ratio is what I used for my current tub and its's at 100% a week later.

Yup. I have two 4 quart Tupperware containers that I’m going to use as mini monos. I’m going to get as close to a 1:1 raitio as I can. The brf jars are 1/2 pints so 4 1/2 pints will roughly equal 2 quarts. I have more than enough of one strain to make one mini tub but deff not the other strain (only have two 1/2 pints colonized of the other strain)The fit perfectly in a 66 quart monotub. Plan is to use perilite in monotub to keep humidity levels up. While colonizing. Obviously going to black out the mini tubs while colonizing using black trash bag inside minitub and tinfoil over the top with a hole or two poked through. Sound good?

You dont need to do the perlite thing. I don't recommend blacking them out either as you have said. Light during colonization in a good thing.
If you do a mini mono with 1 quart of spawn of the one strain and 3 quarts of sub you should be fine.

Right on. Thanks. Why do I keep hearing that you need to (or it’s just a good idea) keep it in the dark while the spawn colonized the bulk sub?
