Been rough here. The small cat got into the grow room and killed one of the northern light autos I started a couple weeks back. Then checked on some of the blueberries I stuck in a grove bag. It was a moldy mess. of course it was the bag with all the choice nugs.

Damn dude. I'm sorry for your loss! That blows. We're they not dry enough before the Grove bag? I've never tried them but have been wanting too. Love my 1/2 gal jars tho.

Yup, that's what I'm thinking moved em into the bag just a bit too soon. Was only a bit more then an oz. Not terrible but still sucks. Was definitely counting on that to keep me out of the dispensary till next crop is done.
On a brighter note the freakshow clone is 20 days into flowering and dropped my last northern light bean into action. Have fixed the doorknob on the grow door so no more cat's sneaking in.

Quote:
LizardWizard said: I did say it was a dubious history.
And you're right, the colonial forces of the Dutch were the main driver of Apartheid in SA.
Not to say that people of color have always acted properly in practice when viewed from today's perspective (the sale of rival defeated tribesmembers as slaves was, for all we know, the start of black slavery) but without any doubt most that was done by colonial white generations is absolutely horrendous to say the least.
When we hear stories about slavery and disowning land from indigenous groups, we often think it's a thing of the past, but many tend to forget it's a much more recent past than I personally sit comfortable with.
A mere 50 years ago Aboriginals in Australia were still living in slavery. The 70s. Their wages were simply flat out stolen with the empty promise of it being spent wisely by others, for their own good. For someone like me who is in his 30s it seems like a long time ago on one hand, but still far too short at the same time.
1990, the year I was born, Mandela was released from prison, and in the following years apartheid was taken from the books, but how long before it dissipates the minds? It's still there today I'm sure.
It's a horrible history.
My father hails from the country south of the Netherlands, Belgium. Long ago, they had a king who made sure rubber was coming in from Africa for the benefit of his royal family. Comparatively little was known at the time in the country the rubber was destined for about the horrors that went on to acquire that rubber, but enough stories made it through for some of the people responsible to come and lie about it to officials in the home country before returning to their atrocities.
The following picture is of a Congolese man in 1904 sitting next to the severed hand and foot of his 5-year-old daughter after she was killed and cannibalized by armed rubber sentries, who in the same massacre also murdered his wife and one of his sons.

The thought that some of our ancestors were indifferent to these kind of actions doesn't sit easy with me. It's an eerie reminder that whatever luxuries we enjoy today in the "developed world" are largely built on the broken backs and suffering of countless undeserving people.
It's why I find it hard to accept when a government offers apologies, because they most often come without any real sincerity. The sharp point of it is that governments issue apologies, while keeping a close watch on their wallet to make sure it remains filled at all times, and choosing to forget how it was filled in the first place. There will be no giving back. It's simply not allowed.
Would we still be so damn clustered to our luxuries if it was our own hands and feet on the chopping block? If it were our children's hands and feet collected in baskets? If we were the ones in the other camp? In the grand scheme of things, some could easily conceive such a switch as defensible.
Hands were accepted as a form of payment, and if we would repay the same price we would have less than 20% of our collective hands left, kids and elderly included. Definitely something to think about if you ask me.
I see clear similarities today still. The wars today are filled with soldiers who know there's nothing right about what they are doing, but still they are forced to do them, because they feel and largely are unable to escape their situation or their job. Or simply because they were collectively brainwashed into thinking it actually is "the right thing to do", or, in the case of the other camp, because there's no escaping the fact that your country is being invaded and destroyed along with your friends and family.
I think in the last case there's no right answer to be found, only what you need to do to protect your family and friends, and yourself.
And when it's over, there's the issue of the mind. Many a veteran will attest that war doesn't always stop in the head when it stops in the field, perpetuating painful situations over and over again.
I am blessed enough never to have seen war up close. The streets I grew up on weren't exactly easy either but I can only imagine the hardship one goes through when growing up in war.
If you need to google apartheid, it's high time to close some of your history gaps

I grow in my garage and now that it's getting cold my temps were dropping as low as 58 at night. I added 2 75 watt reptile heaters to the tent which seems to be exactly what I needed. I like these things vs a space heater.

Congrats Mush!
Checking on my babies last night I found 1 of them had about 10 thrips in the state where they're somewhat beige in color, still tiny. Since they're not in the adult stage yet and it's only 1 plant (saw the first silvery sootish markings of thrips droppings about a week ago so I was keeping a close eye) I'll be releasing some Neoseiulus cucumeris predatory mites when they arrive on my doorstep.
Should be enough to nip it in the bud, if they persist after that I'll be bringing in backup in the form of Orius Laevigaetus. That's probably my favorite predatory bug. Though they're hard pressed for their first place by Chrysopa Carnea larvae.
Orius is cute and I find them outdoors a lot, but Chrysopa larvae are like ferocious little microcrocodiles that will even attack humans and they stick dead carcasses on their backs as camouflage.
It's almost a good thing I get to use them every now and then

Oh man thank you so much for the give away. I rarely win free stuff so I’m super stoked.
Last thing I ‘won’ was a crappy award at work that required most of my soul

Thanks again.
