I know that aspririn can be used as a root growth enhancer actually. I wouldn't be surprised if it does have some good effects on plant growth.

I can't think of the trees' name right now, but it's the broad genus of the easter tree with the wiggly crinkley twigs that you put in water around easter to hang some easter eggs in as a seasonal decorative element in a room, a tree that grows best around water, well, that tree, when you put those twigs in the water, it gives off a compound related to aspirin. IIRC it's a prodrug for it and the bark of said tree can be used as a tea to treat mild headaches. Anyway the twig water can afterwards be used to root other plant cuttings in. We do it every year and almost every year the wife throws the water away before asking me if I need any :crankey:

Wiilow / Salix

Definitely forgot about using it for rooting.  I still need more proof than some hippy selling stuff online before I give my plants aspirin though.  I've rooted lots of willow in wetland restoration, it's fun!

I don't know if it is an "auto" thing or just a "mephisto" thing...but after germinating my bag seeds (photo-period), it is crazy how much more vigor and how much more rapidly these photo-period seeds grow compared to the auto-seeds I got from mephisto. Within 3 to 4 days they are already farther along and much larger and more developed than any auto/mephisto seed was at 7 days.

Do auto-seeds tend to sprout as teeny tiny seedlings and grow way slower compared to photos? Is this a trait/aspect of all auto flowering genetics, or is it more likely to do with the quality/genetics of Mephisto?

After like 7 to 10 days my autos started to grow/develop, but that first week or so they were extremely slow and super tiny when they came out of the seed, it almost looked like they weren't growing at all the first several days after they sprouted. Every single photo-period seed I've germinated comes out of the seed as a larger seedling and immediately starts reaching upward and growing at a pace that is easily 3x the rate of the autos I grew this year.

My autos definitely packed on a lot of growth and grew at a decent rate over the past 14 days, but they were sooooo damn slow their first 7 to 14 days.

lots to consider in that.  Your bagseeds could just be a very vigorous F1 cross, whereas the mephisto beans have been through a lot of breeding and selecting to get where they are.

What soil are you growing the autos in?  Does it contain any nutes?  Autos are extremely sensitive to nutes when vegging and prefer a very lightly amended soil.  When I use very basic mixes they do much better in vege.

What light schedule are they on?

Just wait, you're going to blink and all of a sudden they will be close to being done

BTW y'all, being a former homeless street kid I have come up with the best plan for dealing with my homeless neighbors.  I like to keep a jar of big cones in my pocket and I hand them out when I'm walking past camps or down the street.  They appreciate it, helps calm down excitable people, we keep an eye out for each other after the fact, and god damn they have hard lives and deserve a joint.

A little kindness and a good rep will make life a lot easier in poor neighborhoods.

Got my electric bill today, fml. Anyone wanna guess?

14k BTU A/C running almost 24/7, another 8k A/C in the drying room.
70 pint dehuey running continuously.
About 1000w of lighting continuously between tents.
6" inline, 4" inline, two 100w circulation fans, two box fans, CO2 controller, irrigation pump.
I live on the bill too so maybe $50 for personal use.

$380

This CO2 build better pay off. Would be much cheaper to vent.

Wanna come live in Europe? They'd pay you less, then deduct more taxes, only to charge you double for your electric.

So, how bout it..?

Before you complain, think about where the fuck you are in the world and how privileged that makes you. Australia would probably be even more expensive btw.

Hey friend, I'm sorry you have to deal with that big of bills in Europe, that really sucks.  I am super lucky to live in a place where power isn't ridiculously expensive and that is a privilege.

I don't think your situation being really hard makes Icon's less difficult for them though.  People on this side of the ocean can still get wrecked by huge bills and it's okay for us to sweat it.  It's one of the reasons I'm so happy about the current state of indoor grow tech.  Thanks to my HLG 135R panel and my slick low power inline fan my bill is 1/4 what it used to be.  I wish this for everyone.

Y'all.  I got online and went looking for clones in portland and ended up finding one of my favorites, Mt Hood Magic Durban (NL#5 x Durban Poison).

Letting the clone root a gallon pot, then she's going in a 65 gal smart pot to finish out the year.  I love that this is still exciting, I look forward to it every year as much as I'm sick of it by mid November.

Just so you know 707 has a lot less nutes and drainage than either happy frog or ocean forest.  It's going to be a hands on mix.

That is correct.  Returns diminish above 20 hrs of light, 18-20 is definitely the sweet spot.

Over the years at the auto site we did lots of experiments with light hours and the results were clear that you can get a nice auto on 12/12, but that the sweet spot is 20 hrs.  It's true that we're always rolling the dice with autos.  The glory and downfall of popping beans every time is who knows what you're going to get?  With how fast companies are pumping out their own store brand autos, I very much doubt quality control is a priority.  I'd love to see them invest more time in stabilizing strains before releasing them.

Yeah, it totally is a joy to overcomplicate it

707 is a mix made more for people who like to dial in liquid nute schedules, as far as I can tell.  Roots recently came out with a new mix called Lush, and it's fucking amazing.  Ain't cheap by any means, but it's made with the highest quality ingredients and can basically carry some strains through flower.  I use it as a base mix in soil building, but it absolutely has the power to be a stand alone.

See that big bad wedding cake in the back left corner?  I plunked an extra plant into half a bag of lush mix with the sides rolled down and holes cut in the bottom in july.  I occasionally fed it fish mix and bloom nutes, but the soil did the carrying.  That monster is in less than ten gallons of Lush

One and done, I'm sold.

70x12=840

70x20=1400

1400-840=560

So in a 70 day auto grow cycle a plant put under 20/4 is going to be exposed to 560 more hours of light than a plant under 12/12.

That's an increase of 66.6% (Nice number :satansmoking:)

While that can add a chunk to a power bill, no big deal if you're just running a small auto tent or have extra space in a vege area.

Broken down it's 23.3 extra 24 hour days of light, or 46.6 extra days of 12/12.

How could they not grow to try and fill their capacity given that huge difference?

I pluck perfectly healthy fan leaves to open up my canopy to more light and air.  I certainly remove dying leaves to prevent more dead matter turning necrotic and introducing bot or other unwanted pathogens to bud sites.  I don't strip the whole plant mind you, just some here and there, and I always give a few weeks to recover between pruning/defoliating.

Once my plant is in flower and forming buds it's hands off though.

I live in a very moist environment and airflow is key to pulling off a harvest for me.  Also depends on the strain I'm growing, MOB for example MUST be defoliated or it becomes a super thick green ball.
