Re: The Official Cannabis Growers Thread [Re: Morel Guy]

Here are some pics of my plants & buds from my grow last summer. I never did post them in here like I kept saying I would over the past year lol .

Overall I was pretty happy with how the herb turned out, considering it was my first grow. I got a late start last summer and had little $ to work with to get it going, but I worked with what I had and grew me enough smoke to last 6+ months....Some of which was quite dank.

Frosted Cherry Cookies.

(Had a real nice high to it. On the plant the buds had a "peanut butter & jelly" kind of thing going on with some gassy/chem notes, fruity jelly with some nutty/doughy/earthiness, but the aroma didn't quite make it through the drying/curing. I feel that is because the shed I was drying in got a little warm, and I probably should have let it go for another week or more, and/or this strain just doesn't carry its essence well once dried. I almost got another clone of this strain this summer to "try again" and see if I could grow and dry/cure it better than I did last time. I feel that I cut it a bit too soon and could have dried it a bit slower/cooler...I enjoyed the colors it changed during the fall though, it was a real pretty plant...The branches on this strain were really droopy though, required a lot of support once the buds started to pack on weight)

South Fork Kush

(real nice "rich" high, stoney & euphoric....Probably my favorite all around from what I grew last summer, I found myself reaching for this stuff the most when I wanted to smoke and it was also the first stuff I ran out of lol....Which is funny because I was initially not too impressed with it right after it was drying, I even remember making a comment in this thread last fall about not being all that happy with it at first, but after curing for a few months I fell in love with it. Earthy/woodsy aroma with a bit of gas, it matured into having a little bit of a floral/jasmine like essence in the mix after curing for a few months, really greasy/oily between the fingers)

Slymer

(Super frosty, nothing but resin on these buds. Incredibly sticky. Had a lime/lemon essence going on, with some creamy/sweetness, a turpentine-like note, and some mild earthy/pine underneath. Had a heady high to it, uplifting at first then transitions into a hazey/dreamy head-space with out being sedating or stoning...So gosh darn resinous though, pretty much right from the beginning of flowering the buds were frosted white and very sticky & aromatic.

Tangieland

(As for aesthetics, the Tangieland was my favorite. Super large buds, with purples & pinks & golds. Coated in syrupy sparkly resin. It had a unique aroma that I wasn't the biggest fan of though. Sugary-sweet grape and citrus with some other weird essence in the mix that I couldn't quite put my finger on but wasn't a fan of ....The buds were super dense on this plant, I lost some of my prime buds to mold/rot induced from caterpillars, this plant also attracted the most caterpillars out of the 4 strains I grew last summer....It is a really dank strain though, the main colas were the size of my arm and frosted with dense bud all the way down like you can see in the first pic, I just wasn't a fan of the aroma, and aroma is a huge part of cannabis for me....First pic was taken right before I started to harvest/chop it right before sunrise, so it's all floppy & hanging low with out any support)

I watched a youtube video and this guy was using 100 gallon fabric pots. His plants were huge, but that seems like way overkill. How big of a flower pot or fabric pot do you guys use for your weed?

Photo plants will take just about as much soil & root space as you give them....I haven't grown with larger pots yet because I'm growing in my backyard and can't let my plants grow into trees lol. I don't want to have big plants in my backyard considering the area I live in and since outdoor grows are banned in my county, but I don't consider 100 gal to be overkill, I consider 100-gal to be on the lower side of "large" lol.

Last year I used 20 gallon fabric pots for my plants, this year I got two additional 30 gallon fabric pots....I put a clone of "Underdog-Urkle" in a 20 gal and one in a 30 gal fab-pot on the same day around the end of June, the clones were the same size when planted, within just 3 to 4 weeks the plant in the 30 gal was noticeably larger than the plant in the 20 gal. Just 10 more gal of root space/soil seems to make quite a difference, even within just a few weeks of growing, so in the long run of a full season of growing it seems they'll take as much as you give em'.

For where I'm growing right now I'd like to go up to 50 gal fab pots, that's the very biggest I'd want for the location I'm growing right now.....but ideally, if I lived where I could grow big trees, I'd just grow them in the ground/in mounds.

Depends when one starts their grow too....Starting plants indoors in March/April and then transplanting them outdoors for a full summer of growing, those can certainly use and benefit from a lot more root space/soil than clones started in late June or July.

If you want to grow trees, they'll need lots of room for their roots.

Bigger the pot, bigger the tree.....bigger the tree, the more pot for me  .

These are around 200 to 300 gal>>>

800gal>>>

This fella does 2000gal, though I suppose it is more of a "bed" than a "pot" at that point lol>>>>

HA, Those ones at the end are like above ground swimming pools. I would love to grow one that big but it will never happen for me. Plus it's too much weed for just me. One one those mega plants would easily last me two years. I would need to rent a huge crane just to get a dump truck full of soil in my backyard and an attack dog to guard it while I'm away.

That has to be like $1000 or more in soil just for one of the 800 gallon pots......

I know right...Yea just one plant as big as those would likely last me at least two years as well, at least lol.

When one starts growing trees like those things I imagine it can become quite a "task" lol . Just thinking about managing plants like that, I feel a lot would go into it. Not to mention harvesting/trimming. That's a lot of plant to "handle" lol.

And yea....soil alone would cost a big chunk for sure. And those things would be drinking A LOT of water each day as well.

His homemade watering structure looks a little sketch. I bet he didn't get city approval to build that piece of shit.

lol

I'm not sure if I'm seeing what you're talking about....If you're talking about the wooden structure/scaffold of sorts that hangs over the plants, I am pretty sure that's the structure which holds up & supports the plants with a trellis/netting once they're in flower.....Those plants are so damn big they need a structure like that to hold up the weight of the branches once the plants start to pack on bud-weight lol.

...er, at least that's what I think that is.

Here's the thread from where those pics are from>>>

I have quite a bit of beneficial insects & critters around my backyard. A lot more this time around compared to last, I'm assuming because of the wet winter/spring we had around here and because I have some flowers around the yard.

This past spring my backyard was chock full of ladybugs.....It's not too much of an exaggeration to say that every square foot of my backyard had ladybugs crawling about through out this past spring. They were everywhere.

I intentionally left the perimeter of yard completely untouched/not cut down in hopes of providing some habitat for lady bugs and other various critters.

Once the heat of summer comes around a lot of the ladybugs have thinned out...but as soon as the aphids start arriving on my melon plants is when I start to notice ladybugs and ladybug larvae & eggs appear again. (relatively little aphids this time around compared to last summer, and they appeared a lot later in the season...I've never had aphids on my weed plants, they seem to stick to my melons and I've spotted them on my sunflowers this year...I would hate to have aphids on my weed plants, those nasty things lol).

But yea, as far as critters that are "guarding" my plants....my plants have a few dozen of those little jumping spiders on them, I love those lil guys.

I have quite a lot of wasps around my backyard, and I notice them hunting around my plants.

I've started to notice a handful of lacewing eggs on my plants over the past couple weeks.

And last year I had a few praying mantis around the garden that moved around a bit.

I gave my plants a spritz of BT at the beginning of this month, and again a couple weeks ago...Will probably do one more application within a week. Last year I didn't really use any BT until it was too late. I didn't have too big of an issue with caterpillars last year but they certainly did destroy some of my most prime tops/buds. I don't want that happening again.

I have some minor damage on some of my lower leaves, mostly on my Lemon Wookie Glue and a little bit on the Underdog-Urkle, I'm assuming it is from thrips.....Nothing major, about the same that I had last year. I just don't have any spare $ for spinosad and the problem hasn't become any worse or spread up the plant over the past 6 weeks so I'm just letting nature play out how ever it does lol.

BT = Bacillus thuringiensis.

:whathesaid:

It is a bacteria/pesticide. "Organic" and safe/nontoxic for pets, humans, and most critters out there.

IIRC it breaks down in sunlight, so after a week or two most of the "BT" on the plant has already broken down. If I understand correctly, it is not something that remains on the plant or "active" for very long.

In concentrated form it does have a little bit of a weird smell to it but it's not a pungent or strong smell, once diluted with water in solution there is no smell at all, and it is diluted quite a bit. So I'm not too worried about using it during early to mid flower, as far as it potentially contributing a funky aroma or taste to the bud.

"When the bacteria is consumed by certain insects, the toxic crystal is released in the insects highly alkaline gut, blocking the system which protects the pest’s stomach from its own digestive juices. The stomach is penetrated, and the insect dies by poisoning from the stomach contents and the spores themselves. This same mechanism is what makes Bt harmless to birds, fish and mammals whose acidic gut conditions negate the bacteria’s effect. "  ...From >> https://www.planetnatural.com/bacillus-thuringiensis/

Good for controlling caterpillars, which is kinda the "main threat" as far as pests go around my area during flowering season. They get into and eat their way through the interior of a bud/cola, and as they shit they spread rot/mold everywhere, basically causing rot in the center of the bud. One won't have any idea that there is rot occurring in the center of their buds from caterpillars until they see a tiny little dead or twisted fan leaf among their immaculate buds....The damn things also seem to like to find the heart of the very best buds/colas/tops, they don't fuck with that larf lol .

What was your grow set-up/style?

Those trichomes have such huge tall/long stalks with itty bitty heads/glands on em'.

Does anyone know if that's purely a genetic thing, or does the growing conditions and other variables contribute to the "size/shape/form" of the trichomes?

In recent years it seems more strains have these trichomes with super long/tall stalks...back around '05 to 2010, I don't ever remember seeing herb with trichomes that had huge/long stalks like that. (could just be coincidence and/or my memory though)

Nice.

Around when do you think they would finish around this area? Like mid to late November?

Has anyone in this thread grown "Thin Mint" before? I have two plants of it at the moment and they're taking their sweet time to develop buds....Just wondering if this strain is known to be kinda slow when it comes to flowering?

In general this plant/strain seems to be a slow grower....They went through a short period of stretch at the beginning of last month and started to "bud up" about 2 weeks ago, but they're soooo slow. Almost like they've been "on pause" for a little while. The first trichomes are just now barely starting to become visible, while my Lemon Wookie Glue is already frosted with big chunky nugs lol.

I got the clones as "Thin Mint" from some dude off CL....So no telling if it is the "real deal"...but the guy seemed legit and not a bullshitter, I got clones off em' last year too and everything I got from him seemed like the plants were actually the strains he said they were.

But yea...I know some strains are slow to develop, this Thin Mint seems to be one of them.

Since this is only my 2nd time growing I'm seeing how drastic of a difference there can be between strains and how they grow & develop differently...Last year all of the strains I was growing switched into flowering pretty rapidly at the beginning of August and were already frosted and getting chunky by this time....This time around it is the Lemon Wookie Glue that leaped into flowering pretty quickly, but the Underdog-Urkle and the Thin Mint that I'm growing are like 3 to 4 weeks behind the LWG and they're much slower to develop.

I'm assuming I won't be harvesting the Underdog and the Thin Mint until the last week of October....The LWG should be ready the first week of Oct.

My plants are starting to look glorious. Switching gears in their flowering and the buds are starting to swell up a bit more and become richer in terps.

It rained a bit yesterday early in the day, first rain we've got in 5 months.

It was perfect for the plants to get a rinse off from all the dust & grime of summer and a drink of rain water with out any worry about mold/rot...It rained for an hour or two before noon, then as the day went on there was a constant breeze and the sunshine came out drying the plants well before sunset.

They weren't as dusty as my plants got last summer, but they definitely look all sorts of clean & fresh now lol.

Now the air is crystal clear too...pure blue skies today and only in the upper 70s, I can tell the plants are loving this mild weather (it's 93 to 103+ pretty much all summer long in my area with low humidity). Should be milder like this from here on out, should be lol .

The Thin Mint I'm growing, which I mentioned in a previous post was super slow at budding up, has started to pick up the pace at which it's developing buds....It smells real good too and like the "real" thing...smells like the classic thin mint/cookie aroma I'm familiar with, starting to look like it too in the bud structure...A warm sweet & spicy essence, a little peppery, sweet earth/dough, some chocolate notes in there and a bit gassy. The aroma has only just started to be present & pronounced so I can imagine it'll get much richer between now and harvest.

And the Underdog Urkle I'm growing is smelling real good, I think I'm the most excited about this one out of what I'm growing this time around....Has a classic "purple" thing going on....Grapes, blackberries, blueberries, flowers, almost a "skittle" like smell (like the candy, not the strain lol), some earthy-hashy kush, and when pinching a bud it is super gassy/chemy at first....It reminds me of a perfume...has some aromas I haven't smelled in a long time.

I expect the Lemon Wookie Glue to be done the first week of Oct...it's getting close.

Other than some enzyme tea once more and some lacto B, they'll be receiving nothing but water from here on out. I've actually been doing mostly water for the past 3 weeks, besides some compost top dress and a dash of molasses & a pinch of magnesium-sulfate in the water a time or two.

The buds all along the lowest portion of the Lemon Wookie Glue that I'm growing seem to have "stalled" or "aborted" in a way, just wondering what's going on here?

By this I mean....The buds along the lower portion of the plant are no long pushing out new/white pistils, all of their pistils have turned dark brown and shriveled up, and all of the trichomes on these buds appear "deflated" and shriveled up as well (almost so much so that with the naked eye those buds don't even really appear to have any trichomes on them at all anymore, almost like all of the "frost" has disappeared). They are also no where near as aromatic as they were.

Does this mean the plant is damn near finished and the buds along the lowest portion of the plant have already "matured" past the ideal point?

The tops/main colas are still pushing out new/white pistils and glistening white with trichomes....but everything along the lower portion of the plant seems to no longer be "frosted" and glistening in trichomes like it once was and it is no longer pushing out pistils.

I did give the plant some enzyme/sprouted seed tea (corn) twice over the past 3 weeks, not sure if that messed with it all?.....

Just strange that practically overnight/within a day or two all the buds along the lower portion of the plant stopped developing, and have basically lost all of their trichomes & rich aroma.

Is this just a sign that I've let the plant go too long?

With my plants last year, I don't ever recall the buds along the lower part of the plant completely stop developing and losing their trichomes.

Can I cut/harvest some of these buds along the lower portion of the plant that don't appear to be developing anymore?...Thinking the plant will put more energy into the tops?...Or will such a thing cause stress and I should just harvest it all at once?

In these first two pics you can see the upper portion of the buds are still pushing out new pistils and are frosted in a creamy/white coverage of trichomes, but as you follow the bud downwards the lower portion no longer has the sheen/frost of trichomes and all of the pistils are brown/shriveled. I know the lower portion of the plant isn't always as frosted as the tops, but this plant had that creamy/white sheen of frost on all of the buds all the way down to the lowest portion of the plant about a week or so ago. Now about the lower 1/3rd of the colas and everything beneath them is no longer "frosted" and no more pistils coming out.

It could just be coincidence but this did seem to start to occur after I started to give then plants some enzyme/sprouted seed tea (using corn).

Some lower buds....Not long ago these buds still had an oily white sheen of trichomes, looked like they were rolled in sugar, now they're all scraggly looking and no longer developing and the trichomes they did have appear to be deteriorating/weathered....

And some super larfy stuff...even this had some nice oily trichomes on it not long ago, sparkling like glittery sugar, now it looks like this. I also found a seed in this scraggly thing, I have no idea where the pollen came from.

Anyone have an idea of what's going on here?

The main tops keep swelling up more and more and keep pushing out new pistils so I figured it still had another week or so in it, but maybe I've let it go too long?..Is this what buds do when they've gone past their prime?...Because it does look like they're basically "deteriorating", and from the looks of it that deterioration is moving up the colas...like mentioned, the colas were frosted with an oily sheen of trichomes all the way down not long ago, now the lower 1/3rd of the plant looks like shwag to my eyes and is no longer doing much of anything besides looking very "meh".

I'll likely end up taking it down within a day or two because it does seem I'm losing trichomes/quality resin with each passing day...I really was hoping to wait until Monday because it is going to be pretty warm through the rest of this week and there will be a nice cool down next week. I dry in my shed and don't want to have buds in there when it is in the 90s outside, it'll be a roasting oven in there :nonono: ...I may just end up hanging them in my closet in my room but I know that's going to make the entire house reeeeeek like dank and I live with other folks.

Have you peeked st the terpenes w a jewelers lense? Are the trichomes actually deteriorating as more and more of them are going amber? They may have just slowed down production of new material and now its on to the ripening phase. The buds look pretty decent from over here man. What week of bloom are they in?

The pics don't really convey or show what's going on, in person/with the naked eye it can be seen pretty easily.

I lost my more powerful jewelers loupe, at the moment I only have a 10x scope so I can't get quite as close of a look at them as I would like.....

....but yes it does look like the trichomes are deteriorating, those buds look scraggly as fuck compared to what they looked like 7 to 10 days ago. And not many trichomes have even turned amber yet, on the sugar leaves they have but within the bud there are very few amber trichomes. This is happening before many trichomes have even turned amber....With the naked eye the buds on the lower portion of the plant don't even really appear to have any trichomes on them at all anymore (they do still have some trichomes, but they're kinda "weathered" and they're not as thick as they were and they look shriveled up), where just a week or so ago those buds were frosted white and sparkled in the sun light.

And when pinching one of those buds they are no longer oily/resinous between the fingers and they don't have nearly as much aroma as they did. So they are certainly losing the amount of resin & "essence" they once had.

This plant is coming up on week 7 of flowering. It's said to be an 8 to 9 week plant, outdoors it's said to finish up around the first week of October and I've been expecting it to be finished by then....So I know it is getting close, but I don't think the lost of trichomes/quality is part of the ripening process....This "deteriorated" look is moving up the plant/colas too, the lower portions of the best colas on the plant look like shwag to my eyes now where not long ago they were coated with an oily sheen of trichomes.

I know I keep repeating things...but for the past 4+ weeks all of the buds on this plant were frosted white with a distinct shiny/glittery sheen of trichomes, all the way down the plant down to the lowest and larfy buds....now only the upper 1/2 of the plant has that frosted white shine of glittery trichomes and it seems to be losing more with each passing day.

It is getting close to being done but still doesn't appear totally "ripe" to my eyes yet  ...Like if this wasn't happening I would let the plant go for at least 7 more days.

But goodluck w everything, at the very least i hope the cola tips do you right after a nice cure... if anything, a few decent sessions w some homeade hash or whatnot. Sucks man, ive lost a few plants to issues too, and its always a hard blow to handle... w all the love, time, water and hope involved in the process... ending on a sour note can def kick a guy in the balls. Much love bro, i hope theres a few silver linings here

Good vibrations your way :wizard:

:werd:

I appreciate your words & vibes dude  .

I don't think it's going to be a major loss, the tops should still be pretty dank...I just wish I knew what was going on and why this is happening....And I'm kinda in a pinch between harvesting this plant within the next night or two before more of this "deterioration" spreads up the plant (but drying in super hot temps), or just letting it go until next week like originally planned (and being able to dry it in relatively cool temps). At the moment I think I'll wait it out until next week, because drying in a shed in hot temps will ruin the herb (temps in the upper 90s until the end of this week, but lower 70s next week)

It is possible that it went hermi, but I have yet to spot any nanners or ball sacks on the plant  (tho I know they can be difficult to spot). My plants last year all ended up with some seed in them too and I have no idea where the pollen came from, never spotted any nanners or hermi/ball sacks.

That is a possibility that's been in the back of my mind :yesnod:...that's something I forgot to mention in my previous posts.

I've poked around these buds and I can't spot any distinct damage or signs of caterpillars though....but just because I haven't spotted them or spotted sure signs of caterpillar damage doesn't mean they're not there (it can be kinda difficult to dig & poke & get a good look into some of the buds).

I think what I'll do in a bit here is cut off some of these buds that are "deteriorating" and cut them open and get a look at their insides, see if there are any signs of caterpillars or other pests, and try to snap a better picture of them in better lighting....which is something I should have done a while ago.

That may be wise to snap off a few for further investigating. I feel like a caterpillar wouldve mowed down a few of the leaves already which would be pretty visible. But maybe hes a stealthy fuck.... if it is a caterpillar, hes one spoiled fucker..l w his trichome only diet  im happy youre having a positive spin on things. The tops do look really skunky:bigjoint: ....If you're confident that itll be cooler then and youre already being a champ regarding cutting your losses, maybe shoot for that week...

I did find a few spots that looks reminiscent of the caterpillar damage I had last year (dead/yellow leaf poking out from a bud), but when I pry open a bud I'm not seeing any real damage or caterpillar shit.

I did spot several more seeds though that are fully "ripe"...So I'm assuming the buds that have a ripe seed in them is maybe why a lot of the buds along the lower portion of the plant have stopped developing entirely?...I'm assuming once seeds are ripe the plant considers its job "finished" and won't be putting any more energy into developing those buds?

That's my only guess at what's going on with that plant...?....

Which is a bummer...I wish I knew where the fuck the pollen was coming from. Like mentioned this happened to my plants last year too and I have no clue where the pollen is coming from.

The caterpillars around here do not eat any leaves on weed plants...Or at least the caterpillars on my plants last year did not touch any leaves at all, they only ate the buds. They seem to crawl into the biggest & best buds and only eat the insides (or maybe they are born/hatched within the center of buds?...that's another thing I've wondered about, are the caterpillars crawling onto the plants or are they being born/hatching on the plants?)...Last year all of the damage I had from caterpillars was literally in the heart of the best portion of the colas, like the most prime buds, right in the heart of the best part of the best buds is where they were eating.

...so yea, they definitely do have a diet rich in trichomes lol. (that's why I never understood "trichomes" being a pest deterrent for the plant, what pests do trichomes actually deter? lol)

It will definitely be a lot cooler next week, it was getting close to 100 yesterday and again today with lows around 70 at night, but by Monday it'll be 70 at the warmest and down into the 40s at night...Pretty sure today will be the last "hot" day of 2019 for my area.

That plant will be chopped for sure this weekend sometime.

Check the area of concern for caterpillar waste as well. It'll be tiny black/brown specks in the area and below. It's a good way to help locate where they are hiding.

Yea I spotted some of the caterpillar shit in my buds last year in the spots they were eating, usually along with a bunch of mold/rot in there too.

But the spots I checked out yesterday, the spots where it looked like there might be a critter inside the bud (a dead/yellow leaf poking out of the cola/bud), didn't have any signs of caterpillars.

I think what's going on with that plant is the buds along the lower portion of that plant got pollinated somehow and their seed is now ripe...so the plant is no longer putting any energy into those buds, so that's why they look like they're deteriorating/losing trichomes & resin and no longer developing.

To anyone in the thread....Is that what happens when a bud/plant gets pollinated and the seeds are fully ripe? Could this be what's going on with my plant?

But I'm waiting for it to cool down this Weekend.

I dry in my shed and it's in the upper 90s today, so it'll be 100+ inside the shed..There is a big cool down after this weekend though, down into the upper 60s/lower 70s which will be perfect for drying.

If the weather was cooler at the moment I would have harvested last night....and if this plant didn't have this "issue" going on I would let it go for up to another week.

Tomorrow night or Saturday night is when I'll be taking er' down...

Pics to come.

My other plants are looking glorious at the moment...The Thin Mint was super slow to start budding up but it has developed a lot over the past 3 weeks. Getting chunky!

I ended up harvesting it last night, woke up around 4am to do it.

The shed I dried in last year is being used as storage and when I looked in there yesterday to hang up some line I realized it's filled up with more crap than I thought, not much room in there to hang colas....So I'm drying in my closet instead, it's not making the house stank like dank nearly as bad as I thought it was going to . My room does smell lovely though :smirk: .

And drying in my closet is a more ideal space to dry anyways, more consistent temp & humidity...It's around 73 degrees in there and humidity is around 50%, give or take just a wee bit through out the day & night. So within an ideal range.

This is the first plant that I have grown from seed. This plant was the only female I got out of 5 seeds, she was the most vigorous right from the start out of the 5. Quite a robust plant, very strong & sturdy branches with no support needed at all. With some of the branches I tied down in the middle of veg the plant had so much vigor that a few of them ended up pulling themselves right back up lol.

Here she is though.

"Lemon Wookie Glue" from Equilibrium Genetics = Lemon Wookie X Glue Bx2

Lemon Wookie = Lemon Diesel X Wookie from Bodhi

Glue Bx2 = {G.Glue #4 x [G.Glue #4 x [G.Glue #4 x (Cinderella 99 x Tahoe OG)]}.

Nothing big compared to outdoor giants, but this is the biggest stalk I've had so far.

Where I topped er'.

I kept the under and inside of the plant pretty "open"

During harvest early this morning...Here you can see the basic training/bending I did to "open up" the plant as it grew. Main stalk bent at an angle towards the north and the branches were pulled down underneath bamboo.

When it's done drying and curing I'll let ya'll kno how the smoke is  .

This morning I spotted some aphids, fucking aphids, on my plants :nonono: .

I HATE aphids and the sticky nasty mess they make...I've seen what they do to my melon plants and have always dreaded having such critters on my weed plants.

The plants aren't totally infested, but each plant certainly has some on the undersides of some of their fan leaves. The Aphids I did spot I removed as best as I could just by using my fingers, running my fingers across the underside of the leaf and wiping/squishing them off. I thoroughly looked over each plant this morning as soon as I spotted some on one leaf.

I was planning on letting the plants go for another 4 to 8 days....but when I look at my plants tomorrow morning and if the aphids have exploded in numbers, and if they are making  a mess, the plants will be coming down tomorrow night. I'd like to let em' go for another few days if possible though, the aphids aren't in the buds just on the undersides of some of the fan leaves.

They arrived pretty much overnight...I didn't see any on my plants yesterday evening though there could have already been a few.

I looked at my plants this morning and the aphids haven't gotten worse or increased in population. There seems to be about 1/4 the amount that there was yesterday (and usually they explode in population with every passing day)

Since I was wiping/squishing any aphid I spotted yesterday and killed most of what I saw on the plants, I feel that helped keep the population of them in check somewhat. (aphids can reproduce and explode in their numbers very quickly).

Can you get ladybugs from your Ace hardware and release them tonight? I think they eat aphids and it's really fun to release them. It's like $8, but that's not so bad if your weed really needs the extra time.

The local ladybugs are already all over it lol. Not many, but there's a few ladybugs on those plants as of this morning, and I also spotted some lady bug larvae crawling around patrolling the plants gobbling up those bastard aphids lol.

Seems the ladybugs move in quickly when a plant has aphids...When ever my melon plants get aphids, within a day there are some ladybugs on them and I start to spot LB eggs & larvae too....I'm curious how LBs are attracted to plants with aphids. I don't think it's from just randomly landing on a plant and then sticking around because there is a food source there, it really does seem that ladybugs are directly attracted to plants with aphids. I'm thinking that there is either a certain aroma/essence that aphids give off and the LB pick up on it, or perhaps the LBs "see" and are attracted to the glistening speckles/marks of aphid honeydew/excrement on the leaves..?...Something is going on that attracts them though.

Last spring my entire backyard was chockfull of ladybugs, like "infested" with them, I almost didn't even want to mow the backyard because of how many LBs I knew I was going to destroy lol...but their population goes down dramatically after spring time. I'm thinking I should try to capture a bunch of LBs during the spring, then find out how to keep them alive and breeding, that way I can have a lady bug farm/army that I can deploy on to my plants periodically through the grow season or when ever needed lol.

Get some BotaniGard and spray em. It's an entomopathogenic soil fungi that will kill all aphids, and a few other pests just as well. It's available in a powder form that keeps in the fridge for about 2 years IIRC.

I'm not going to spray anything since I'm so close to harvest, and it's not a major infestation at the moment.

But good to know about that one for the next time around  . I'll likely use some of that on my melon plants next year.

If I got aphids during early flower I would just use a spray bottle with water to knock them off the leaves, they can be "sprayed" off a plant with light to moderate water pressure pretty easily...Or if it happened during veg, a simple insecticidal soap does the trick to kill em', some warm water mixed with dish soap & veg-oil.

When my melons got aphids earlier this summer I used some warm water, dish soap, and a lil bit of veg oil....It worked pretty well at preventing their populations from exploding and keeping their numbers in check. I only had to do so once this summer and after that they never really reproduced into the masses that they did last summer on my melons.

Last summer I had a gnarly infestation with aphids on several of my melon plants (green & yellow aphids), and big black aphids on my corn, but never any on my weed plants....This summer the melon plants had only a minor & brief infestation that was taken care of with warm water/soap/oil and the local ladybugs & other insects, my sunflowers had some too but it wasn't a major issue for them.

Get a paint brush and flick them off

Not a bad idea. I didn't think about that.

Considering I was just using my fingers, I think a paint brush would actually work pretty well at swiping them off the leaves...though they wouldn't be squished & killed.

I ended up taking down two plants last night/4am. One of the Thin Mint and one of the Underdog-Urkle, and I have one of those each still going for another couple days at least so as long as the aphids don't take hold.

Part of me was getting anxious having dank buds in my backyard so close to being done (because potential thieves)...as well as the issue with the aphids...and I am also a bit curious to see any differences (bud swell/weight, aroma, high etc) between plants of the same strain that are harvested at different times.

But man...This Thin Mint and the Underdog Urkle, I feel they're going to be the most fuego plants I've grown so far.

Pics to come.

OM, what were those brown buds like when you cracked them open? Any signs of Botrytis inside?

One branch had a little bit of some "ugly" going on inside the buds along the lower portion of that branch, some sort of mold/fungus...but it wasn't anything major like I had going on in the Tangieland I grew last year.

One single caterpillar came crawling out of one of the buds when I was trimming, so there was at least one cat up in there. But there wasn't really any major signs or damage of caterpillars.

I'm still not totally sure what was up with that plant....Maybe a combination of having seeds so it stopped devoting as much energy towards trichome/resin/bud development, as well as a caterpillar or two, and maybe some sort of mild fungal infection  .

I think that plant did push out nanners or went hermi somehow, even though I never spotted any...Not a lot of seed though...I found two dozen seeds so far in the entire plant. But most of the seed was deep in the buds so they had to of been knocked up early. And most of the seed was found in stuff from the lower portion of the plant (though I haven't really broken into the tops yet).

The tops turned out pretty alright though.

Dripping with trichs...My fingers feel sticky & greasy just looking at that lol.

What sort of aroma does it have?

I haven't had that one yet myself but I've heard that strain is known for some rather high THC content & packing a punch.
