Almost done trimming  .

Probably 2 days left.

I've only been doing like 1/4lb to 1/3rd of a pound a day, that's about the most I can get through in a day before my back & neck & hands start to get sore & tight (this is the first year that my hands have actually become sore from trimming). Have taken a few days off, but basically been at it for the past 3 weeks.

I have just been getting stoned a vibing out to music for several hours while trimming, super meditative, I get "in the zone"...thoughtless and focused. Just gives me a reason to listen to music all day. Then after a trimming session I have a bunch of finger and scissor hash that I smoke up. The finger/scissor hash I've been getting this time around is super oily/melty, melts into an oil more so than burning. If I can manage to get some decent yields the trim I have should make for some excellent hashish.

I've become a lot faster and sharper/better/accurate at trimming....The first few years I was so slow at it, and things like getting the tips of the scissors deep into the bud to cut out fan leave stems/petioles/crows feet took me forever, or just any sort of small/detailed cuts would take me forever to do...Now it's like I can place the tip of the scissors exactly where I want in an instant and snip the smallest little stem or leaf in an instant with out cutting away any bud material.

What RCs are floating around these days that are being passed off as LSD?

I haven't heard any reports of any RCs going around as LSD in many years. Not in person, not on the shroomery, not on any of the drug testing sites, no where online.

Stuff like 25i or other nbome compounds hasn't been seen or heard of in like 8 or 9 years now. And stuff like DOI and DOM hasn't been going around since the early/mid 2000s.

Check out the drug testing websites, every single tab of "L" sent in actually tests as legit LSD, I haven't seen any tests results showing any RCs in years.

There is a HUGE amount of legit LSD going around the world these days, ever since around 2012-ish there has been A LOT of LSD going around....

...it is dirt cheap too, super cheap these days, which leads me to believe even more so that there is A LOT of it out there.

These days it is more common to find a tab with actual real LSD on it than a tab with some random RC being passed off as LSD. Most tabs these days are dosed well & proper too, around 100mcg.

Lots of gel-tabs going around over the past 6-ish years too, at least in the US/North America.

Omg! Check it out guys! My wavy caps popped up! Whoohoo!

Unless you harvested those early because the air was drying out a bit and their growth was slowing down because of the conditions (looks like some of the caps had dried out a bit already?), I feel most of those could have gone longer and grown up a lot more.

Many of those appear to be lil tiny babies, they didn't even grow large/mature enough for their caps to become "wavy" (tho I know not all phenos will have that "wavy cap" trait).

If allowed to mature, some of those clusters would have grown large and looked glorious!

Fucking same.  So god damn close to the end and I can't even.  I'm never growing big plants for free again.

lol

:werd:

I might finish trimming today, if not today then tomorrow for sure.

After dealing with that atmospheric river/rain event back in October and having to cover my plants, as well as the intense winds that came through during mid to late flowering (a few days of 40 mph winds), and plant maintenance in general...

...yea, I no longer want to grow "big trees" like I've talked about in the past lol.

The plants I had this year weren't all that large, about the very biggest I'd want, still manageable (most were about 5ft tall and bushy, one was 7ft  and like a Xmas tree)...if they were any larger then protecting them from the rain and dealing with the winds would have been a huge pain in the ass.

Not to mention all the trimming/processing.

The weed is already decarbed in the oven…

when your infusing the oil you don’t even want it to get too hot.

I add hot water that I boil on a different burner. And add just a LITTLE at a time. That shit goes crazy if you add it too fast! You don’t want to find out!

I add water from the very beginning of the infusion process.

The water helps pull out/absorb some of the chlorophyll and some other "nasties", def makes for a somewhat "cleaner" and better tasting oil.

Also prevents the oil from getting too hot, keeps it right at a simmer.

That sounds like a nice cross!

I love me some PBB, and def a fan of hazes.

Seems like it'd make for a nice high and good aroma/flavor.

How much longer until it drops pollen do you think?

That's what I did this past summer...Before I chopped down a male I took a few cuttings and just placed em' in a cup of plain water and kept em' under a small light inside my room. After 7 to 10 days, IIRC, the flowers started to open & dump pollen. (I collected some but ended up never using it)

I've had cuttings from female plants start to flower in cups of water too...after sitting in stagnant water outdoors in super hot/dry weather for about a month, they still started to produce flowers.

From what I understand about making cannabutter, Temperature is crucial and must be closely related,  because to much heat will degrade the potency.

Does THC breakdown/degrade that easily?

For some reason I've been under the impression that it takes a while/many hours for THC to degrade. (in regards to typical cooking/baking temperatures)

I've always wondered what the most effective & efficient way of making edibles is...if one should decarb before infusing, or if one needs to decarb at all...I always wonder how much of the available THC has been de-carbed, if I de-carbed enough or not enough, or if I have used too much heat and degraded the THC.

Sure a lot of the edibles I've made have "done the trick", but I wonder how much of the THC has been decarbed or degraded entirely.

I've been thinking about taking a finished batch of infused coco-oil, and then letting some raw-flower infuse into the oil at warm-room temp for a day or two...to re-introduce any components and terps that were destroyed from the heat of infusion/decarbing, as well as the acid forms of the cannabinoids which I feel have their own benefits. A mixture of decarbed and raw flower.

Nah, you don't need a torch to use rosin. Rosin does not "need" to be dabbed. No extract needs to be dabbed, dabbing is just one way extracts can be used.

Rosin is just straight up all the resin/oils pressed out of flower using some mild heat and intense pressure, it contains the full spectrum of the flower and no solvents involved. Just all the oily goodness separated from the plant material.

I do dab rosin from time to time but I like to use rosin like hashish...I like to place bits of rosin in a joint or on top of a bowl. Tastes amazing, mouth coating goodness. And it also has a really nice balanced/rich high that feels like flower compared to BHO. Rosin is potent but not as potent as solvent extracts and it also contains the entire spectrum of components in the flower, so the high tends to be more "balanced".

Even solvent extracts do no need to be dabbed...I've placed live resin in joints before, tastes delicious.

Dabbing is just one way to use extracts.

Up here in NW Oregon there's always been better local weed than what we could get from norcal.  That's just where we went to work in late summer-fall.  I'll admit that the quality of pot in the area drastically dropped when it went legal in 2015.  Before that your reputation was everything, and we were more that saturated with excellent growers.  Now the best weed is traded between hobby growers.

:werd:

Same here down in Cali.

I haven't seen what I consider to be quality/dank flower on the "street" market in years (and almost everything in stores is overpriced crap). Some of the stuff in stores seems like it might have been "good" at some point, but by the time it gets to the consumer it is dry and has no soul. In general most flower I've got from the store is "soulless", it has the looks and that's about it (the resin isn't sticky, the aroma is dull, no flavor, the high is dull and lacking). I have got some decent stuff from the store before tho.

I've rambled about it a bunch of times around here, but the "market" in my area (north/central cali) was flooded with nothing but extremely high quality dank flower back in my early days of smoking (05 to 2010-ish). It didn't matter who you went through to get your flower, every single person selling herb back then had nothing but the highest quality one can imagine. Super loud pungent aroma, a mere ten-sack would have my entire house reeking like skunk-spray. And thick flavors that would coat the mouth.

Now, the only time I see flower that is close to that quality is stuff that I grow myself.

...On that topic, the "Kush Cake" I grew this year has some of the best flavor I've ever got from my own home grown herb. It has that rich "mouth coating" flavor that I rarely ever come across these days. Taste exactly like a blend of Bubba/Cake/Cookies, kushy-gas & sweet earth/vanilla & some mild floral/incense. I smoked a joint of it on Thanks Giving and I was impressed with the amount of flavor it had, and the flavor was there through out most of the joint (not just on the first couple tokes). The flavor of the smoke is one thing my flowers have kinda lacked in past years (always silky smooth smoke and no "off" taste at all, but no pronounced flavors), so I'm very happy to have some flavorful flower. I'll ramble about all that some more when I get around to posting some pics and a "review" of my grow and flowers this year.

Oh yea...and I'm finally done with trimming :awesome::lol: . There's a few colas still hanging up, probably another 1/4lb or so, but I decided I'm just going to use those for edibles. I am absolutely DONE with trimming lol. Just eye-balling and estimating, I think I got around 5lbs of from my plants this year.

I've got some edibles to make, some hash to make, and I gotta place a thick layer of mulch over the soil in my pots (even tho it's unlikely I will be growing next year, I like to keep the soil alive and charged up/rich with nutrition and keep them mulched with grass/nettles/chickweed over winter)...after that, I will officially be done for the year.

I usually end up with a few ants stuck in my flowers, it is pretty hot & dry in my area so not all that many insects/bugs in my area during the grow season (as far as critters that might end up stuck in the resin).

Does that plant have some certain aromas/notes that stand out?...I am curious what it smells like?

And was that plant grown from seed you made last year?...Is it similar to the plant the seed came from?

Looks pretty resinous!

Oh word trimming is finally done!

I had a talk with myself about not getting paid and stop it.  Just connoisseur trimmed the top buds and threw the rest in gallon ziplocks.  Free is free, ain't anyone complaining.

I'm excited to be free of giant plants next year.  Just going to pop some seeds june first and throw them in ten gallons.  No special care, you make it on your own or you die

I'm never letting pot cut into my deer season like that again.

That's kinda what I did last year...I just did a rough trim/once over on the bulk of it, only some the tops/most primo stuff was trimmed thoroughly.

I hear you on big plants...I no longer have a desire to grow big ones lol, the plants I had this time around were about as big as I'd want (clones and seeds starts in late June/early July).

I'm going to be moving so I won't have a place to grow next year...but I might try to do some autos during the early summer if I can find someone that has a sunny yard that wouldn't mind letting me grow a few small plants in trade for a portion of the harvest.

I can see how the overlap of harvest season and deer season would have one's hands busy & full. I really want to get into hunting in the near future as my sole source of meat (I'm a "vegetarian", but I have no issue with eating meat from the wild)....I just have too much going on in life at the moment, but def something I intend on getting into (Turkey & small game, eventually deer and boar).

Off on a tangent...I think someone mentioned something about a purple strain a page or two back...What ever happened to all those classic "purple" strains that were around (at least in nor-cal) in the early/mid 2000s? Purple Urkle, GDP (I know it's still around), Mendo Purps, etc etc etc....I feel like they would be, should be, super popular these days in stores/within the recreational market (and in general). They were extremely loud/pungent and had tons of flavor. The most pungent smelling strains I've ever come across have been some of those purple strains that were going around 2005-ish. The reeked like skunk/gas and grapes/berries, it was literally impossible to control the odor that those buds had, and they would leave the mouth coated with skunk/grapes/gas.

I rarely ever hear about or come across anything like the purples that were popular back then. They're so loud/pungent and with so much flavor (and on the sweet/fruity side) I would think they would be popular these days.

They have the colors/aesthetics too that should help hype sales...the flowers had some beautiful deep dark purple/black colors, contrasted with orange hairs and shimmering white resin.

Someone has gotta bring back the purps!....I don't know of any strains around these days that are like those classic purple strains, real PURPLE!

I feel growing via hydro/salts/synthetics tends to be more expensive than organics/live soil.

With organics, one doesn't really have to "buy" anything at all. If one doesn't live in a desert and if one eats actual whole foods, one can use different plants and various organic inputs that grow in/are available in their area as well as using food scraps as compost or to feed worms with which produces excellent castings/nutrition for soil. One can also ferment fruit/vegetable scraps for a great fertilizer, one can use egg shells for calcium & phosphorus. One can create their own Lactic Acid Bacteria for free/pennies. Just worm castings alone, coming from one's own food scraps, is some great stuff.

If one lives near the coast they can collect kelp/seaweed which is fucking amazing for soil/cannabis. One can use fish heads/scraps to make an excellent fertilizer. There are many different plants that are loaded with nutrition that one can collect and use (nettles as an example). One can grow many different plants specifically for composting/providing nutrition into their compost/soil.

One can grow fantastic quality herb in organics/live soil with out spending much at all, or anything at all....Nature provides, no need to "buy" it.

I spent around $30 this entire year on "nutrition" for 13 full term plants. Got about 5lbs.

I could go mine some minerals and sprinkle it on my media too but it's just easier to buy stuff. I think mineral nutes are by far cheaper than bottled organic nutes. Even raw bonemeal, guano, kelp, castings etc. that are for sale are way more expensive than a bag of minerals.

If one is buying raw/bulk minerals/salts, not already in a solution/bottled or from a "brand", yea I imagine they can be pretty dang cheap when purchased that way.

If one is purchasing organic materials then yea they can add up...the point I was trying to make is that organic/live soil can be done dirt cheap or basically free. Things like bonemeal, kelp, castings, etc do not need to be purchased at all (depending where one lives). If one lives in a desert, away from the coast, in an urban/metropolis area, and doesn't eat whole foods that can be composted, or if they don't have a yard to grow other plants to feed their soil/compost, then it is going to be tougher to acquire organic materials/inputs from one's area.

As far as bottled/branded things go, they can def cost a bit of $. So yea, depending how one goes about it yea I suppose organics can add up in cost. But it can also be done for basically free, and still produce excellent quality flowers/resin.

Quote:

I think it's cool that you can lactate your own bacteria, grow your own worms, collect your food scraps, etc. But time is money too y'know. Takes space; time to learn, forage, apply; more equipment for composting / fermenting, etc.

A bag of minerals is ready to go, professionally mixed ratios, all you need to do is put it on a scale and dissolve into the water.

True.

It's not that difficult or time consuming tho, and it's good knowledge to have....if one wants to do worms/vermi culture all they need is a couple tubs, and if one wants to ferment things they just need a bucket or two, if one wants to compost a plastic bin will do or even just a pile on the ground or in a pit. All of those things are "passive", as in they do their thing all on their own for the most part, all I do is toss in some food scraps or plants/organic materials.

Since I grow outdoors, in some ways I feel this approach is easier for me than it would be if I were growing indoors and didn't have much space to work with.

The way I grow is kinda a life style for me...I garden/grow other plants besides just cannabis...So I already do things like composting/fermenting, it is as simple as tossing food scraps into a compost pile or a bin instead of the trash can. I like to not let things go to waste, I like to keep a "closed loop" as much as possible. Even the stems/stalks from the plants get composted or fed to mycelium/mushroom patches.

When I mow the yard, all of the mulched up grasses/nettles/mallow gets composted. That stuff is excellent for the soil/top dressing.

I also want to be able to grow dank/herb (and food) 100% independently if shit ever "hits the fan" years down the road....I am starting to feel confident I can grow full term plants outdoors solely by using what I have available from "nature" around me, as well as growing food.

Though I am an Organic soil builder, I can see the merits in both styles.

Like OM I really enjoy building a soil using any local ingredients I can.  This involves grabbing glacial dust from the upper sandy river by old maid flats, humic duff from the forest, poop of various herbivores, ect.  A lot of this I don't make special trips for, I just grab it when I'm out doing other activities like foraging or hunting.  However, I recognize that my access to these things is a privilege afforded me by proximity to these natural areas and access to public lands.  I don't grow large scale for commercial purposes, just a hobbiest that grows for family a friends for free.

Were I living in an urban area, especially on the east coast, and had to keep a small business going on a budget there would be a lot of appeal to the powdered chem nutes.  I personally do not use chem nutes, but I understand why Icon does.

Ultimately my organic style might have slightly less impact on the environment, but honestly not by an extreme amount.

 to you both.

:werd:

Totally!

"A lot of this I don't make special trips for, I just grab it when I'm out doing other activities like foraging or hunting."

Same here. When ever I'm out & about in natural areas, if I see something I can utilize I collect it. Nettles (tho I have a lot that grow in my yard), humic duff from the floor of the woods, etc. Not much tho, doesn't take all that much for the dozen or so plants & garden that I have going.

I do purchase some stuff (as far as materials for soil/nutrition), this year I actually bought a bottle of "nutes" for my first time lol ("Roots Organics" mostly guano/castings/molasses) and I have used some of those "Dr. Earth" dry mixtures, but I try to work with what's available around me for the most part.

I do want to try growing a couple plants with minerals/salts sometime just for the sake of the experience.

Fiiiinally got some pics uploaded lol...

I always lag on posting pics, pretty much only ever do so after my grow has been harvested and finished entirely.

"MAC1"....It was my smallest plant. Tons of oily resin though, the flowers are primo. Unique aroma, kinda floral and yeasty/bread-like, musty yet mildly sweet. It has a really nice uplifting/smooth high, not too heavy/sedating for me, not quite energetic but it gets my head space zingin', good day smoke. One of the nicest highs I've had in a while, I really enjoy MAC and will grow it again and will be on the look for some MAC crosses my next time around. I really like the essence/aroma it has and the high, and the amount of resin is pretty ridiculous.

"Wedding Cake"....This clone was given to me for free as "Wedding Cake". I got a clone of WC from the same dude last year and it had somewhat different characteristics compared to the "WC" I grew this time around. This "WC" in the pics doesn't have as much of the classic creamy/buttery/vanilla "cake" aroma that I associate with "cake" strains, it also didn't turn nearly as purple as the WC I grew last year...It was still a very dank plant with a lot of large flowers complteley frosted in resin. The aroma was a mild gassy/chem with some slight sweet floral notes, not a very complex or super loud aroma. Not a lot of flavor...Lots of resin, good potency, and a nice balanced high though.

These next two are the WC during early flowering, in the morning after some rain showers passed by...pics can't do justice to how vibrant the flowers/resin was in the morning sunshine, it was poppin'...

"Kush Cake" (Wedding Cake X Animal Mints)....Now this plant has a lot more of the classic "cake" aroma/characteristic going on that I am familiar with. The cake aroma/character is very distinct, but it also has a lot of classic "kush" notes/aroma going on. To me the essence of this strain is a perfect blend of cake, kush, and cookies, I can totally smell and taste its heritage/parents....Gassy race fuel/acetone, sweet vanilla cream, earthy kush, flowers/floral incense, skunk/dank...Just a straight up a classic "sweet kush" aroma...When I was harvesting this plant the resin was so damn "loud" and gassy/pungent smelling, it straight up smelled like the exhaust from a top fuel engine (for anyone that's been to drag races/smelled exhaust from nitromethane lol), or like high octane race fuel/gasoline/acetone, it reminded me of being at the race track lol.

After drying/curing the aroma become more rich/complex but it is still pretty damn gassy and skunky. This is the most flavorful herb I've ever grown too, it actually coats my mouth with flavor and the flavor persists for a while when smoking a joint. The smoke is thick/dense/expansive and oily (my lips and tongue become sticky from a single bong rip lol), but it is ultra smooth, like I exhale massive thick/white clouds of oily smoke but the toke is buttery smooth. The high starts off with a little "perk"/uplifting, slightly cerebral/jovial, but ultimately is a relaxing/mellow/somatic type high. Doesn't make my head too cloudy though, doesn't totally "wreck" me if I smoke it during the day.

Ice Cream Cake....I had to pull it a bit early because I was seeing signs of mites along the lower portion of the plant and didn't want em' to spread into the tops. Really wish I could have let it go a bit longer. This plant turned beautiful colors towards the end. It's aroma had a note upfront that reminded me of a sour-cherry slushy/icee, followed by a creamy/milky floral essence with a touch of gas. For a little while the fresh resin on the plant reminded me very much of the strain "Forbidden Fruit".....I kinda goofed up the dry/cure on this plant, let it sit out and dry out for too long before trimming/jarring...The dry flowers have a really nice aesthetic tho, swollen exposed calyxs with splashes of dark purple contrasted with bright white frosting of resin. It has a nice mellow high. Starts off a bit uplifting but mellows up quickly into a nice stone.

Beautiful plant though!...It's a popular strain but I wouldn't mind growing it again and trying to grow it better, I really like the aroma it has.

"Granimals X ?"....This plant was grown from a seed that I found in some "Granimals" that I grew last year (Granimals = Grape Pie X Animal Cookies). The aroma it has is pretty similar to the Granimals it came from, tho a little less of the cookie/spice essence....Has sweet & tart & sour notes of grapes juice & berries, but also some pine and some slight "spice"...I looove the aroma it has, and it has some good pronounced flavor too (probably the 2nd most flavorful plant I grew this year). It has a flavor that is super nostalgic for me (brings me back to some herb I used to smoke in my early days)....The high though, something about the buzz/high I'm not a fan of. It kinda has an "edge" to it and makes me a bit scatter-brained feeling where I'm kinda stimulated and don't know what to do and can't think straight. Just a nervous/anxious type of energy to it...which is unfortunate becuase I love the aroma & flavor so much.

"Vanilla Frosting X ?"....Grown from a seed that I found in some "Vanilla Frosting" (Humboldt OG X Gelato) that I grew last year....While it was growing the flowers had an aroma that was somewhat similar to the VF I grew last year. A gassy sweet/vanilla (different from wedding cake tho) essence, at one point the flowers kinda reminded me of root-beer/sassafras...I goofed up the dry/cure on this plant too. Let it dry out a little too much, it lost a lot of it's essence/aroma. The buds are pretty resinous though and look good. It feels like some potent smoke though, nice mellow/balanced high. Just doesn't have much "character" as far as aroma/flavor/high goes.

Some pics from the very last night of harvesting, mostly the top colas from Kush-Cake....

I hang/dry in my closet lol (I love marinating in the dank smells when I sleep at night lol)...I've got like 7 or 8 lines of twine in there, a small fan keeping air circulating through, I keep my bedroom window open most of the day/night...Temps were around 60 to 65 for the most part while drying, got up to 68 a few times. I had some donky dick colas hanging up in there this year lol.

Jesus those are huge colas. Your yard must smell amazing all fall.

Def the largest colas I've grown so far.

My yard was pretty stanky this year lol. My entire neighborhood reeks like dank at times through the year since there are so many people around here that grow, but yea when I'd pull up to my house I could def smell my plants from the street as soon as I'd get out of my car. When I'd have the house windows open in the morning or evening to let a breeze/fresh air blow through, the house would stank like dank lol...When I had my harvest hanging to dry in my room I could smell it very strongly from down the street when walking up to my house lol (I can't imagine how anxious I'd be if it wasn't legal in my state lol).

There were a few days around mid/late flowering that got pretty warm/sunny with almost no wind, and my yard smelled super pungent of skunk/dank...There was one day in particular I overheard my neighbors in their backyard talking among themselves about how strong it smelled lol (I don't think they mind tho, pretty sure they had a plant or two going a few years ago).

Outstanding OM, glad to see so many happy plants!

I've noticed the variability in what people are calling "wedding cake" is similar to blue dream.

Both are a clone only "strain" that has been "reproduced" by selfing, bagseed, ect.  There is only one original plant and tons of imposter cuts floating around.  I grew a bagseed from a wedding cake QO I bought in washington and it turned out more like WC than most WC cuts.

Honestly it looked a lot like your Ice cream cake.

Thanks dude!

After dealing with mites last year and not having the most happy looking plants at harvest, I was very glad to bring all of these plants to a mostly proper finish (def would have liked to let a few go a bit longer tho).

Certainly my best grow/harvest yet...not only in quality but also weight.

The clone of Wedding Cake that I grew last year I feel was the real deal original cut/clone of "Triangle Mints#23"...It had all the traits/characteristics I'm familiar with when it comes to WC, I had no doubts about it. I wish I knew more about the origin of the alleged "Wedding Cake" clone that I grew this year tho. It had a pretty similar structure/form to the Kush-Cake I grew and wasn't drastically different from the WC I grew last year in structure/form, so I do feel it was something closely related. But it lacked a lot of that typical "cake" aroma (creamy, buttery, vanilla, nutty/nutella kush with a lot of gas).

There are supposedly two different "strains" known as wedding cake...Apparently one of them is said to be something like "GSC X Cherry Pie" (or visa/versa the other way around), and then what I feel is the popular one and what most people know as "WC" over the past few years which is "Triangle Kush X Animal Mints" (AKA, Triangle Mints #23).

Perhaps the clone I got as "WC" this year was the other one? (the GSC/Cherry pie cross)....or just straight up an "imposter"...what ever it is, it is still supa dank as far as resin production goes and potency, it also had pretty good yields, just doesn't have much in the area of aroma/flavor and isn't very "cake-like".

It's weird because I've gone through this same dude for the past 4 years now and he's always had clones of the real deal, he's always had a nice selection of legit strains/clones...I've been meaning to ask him if he knows anything about the "WC" clones he gave me for free this year, because it wasn't the same WC I got from him last year.

Really nice plants OM! A great final flourish for that location.

Thanks man!...

It really was a nice final grow for this spot! I'm mostly satisfied with how things turned out...After the gnarly 40+mph winds that came through during later flowering, and after dealing with a record breaking atmospheric river/rain event, and after being worried about mold/rot since it was rather damp and cool towards the end of flowering....After all of the little worries/stress I had towards the end there I'm pretty happy with how it all turned out, no complaints or regrets! Definitely learned some more things this time around though and how I will improve or do things a little different next time.

Lost a little bit to mold/rot, but nothing substantial.

I have no idea what I will be working with my next time around, or how long it will be until I grow the plant again....It might even be a small indoor grow lol.

On the topic of hashish....

Some of you may recall me rambling about how my yields of ice-water hash the past few years have been extremely tiny....it is a topic I've gone on about a few times around this place in different threads lol.

For some reason the past several years I just haven't got much hash at all from washing my trim/larf, even though majority of it is totally sugared up with resin/trichomes. It seems as if the trichomes just don't break off the plant material easily, even after long wash sessions the material would still be loaded/covered in trichomes. I never could figure out what the issue was  .

Well a few days ago I did my first run/wash of hash from some of the recent trimmings I got and finally got a proper yield!...I finally got the satisfaction of getting multiple large spoon-fulls of hash lol, the satisfaction of scooping up multiple spoon loads full of blonde hash lol. It was a really BIG spoon too  lol.

I'm going to be doing another run/wash today of the trimmings from the "WC" and the "Kush Cake"...I don't wanna jinx myself but after seeing what came out of the trim I used the other day I feel like the stuff I'm working with today will give me loads of greasy/oily/melty hash.

I work with two 5-gallon buckets. Using a large cooking spoon/paddle to stir/agitate the water, I washed for about 20 minutes the other day. Today I will likely do a 5 to 10 minute wash at first and see what sort of yield and quality I get, then following with a 10 to 15 minute wash.

The bags I use are 220, 120, & 45. Anything below 45 I'm not interested in and I just dump it out.

Today I will be adding a 73mic bag into the line up to see what it catches. Depending what that material in that bag is like and how much of it there is, I may just end up mixing everything between 45 up to the 120 together or keeping the 73 separated by itself.

The wash of hash I did the other day...I used anhydrous magnesium-sulfate to help speed up the drying. I wasn't sure how well it was going to work but it actually seems to have worked very well. I placed the damp/moist hash in loosely folded up pieces of parchment paper, the hash in parchment paper was placed in a small plastic container along with magnesium sulfate in folded up pieces of paper-towel. Inside the container it was layered, mag-sulfate in paper towel on the bottom, then hash in parchment paper on top of that, then another layer of mag-sulfate on top of that, then more hash in parchment paper on top of that, and so on with alternating layers. I kept a lid on the container so it was sealed.

Within 24 hours the hash already seemed dried out...Certainly dry enough to smoke easily.

I'm going to do the same thing with my next run of hash, but I will place the container in the fridge to try to preserve the aroma/essence even more so.

I don't wanna get too excited because I've had such shit results in the past, but after seeing my yields the other day I am really looking forward to what I might get from this washing session I'm about to do today.

And the hash I got the other day smells pretty good, not super strong but def a pronounced aroma/essence...has a lemony/lime/citrus character with some notes of roses/flowers, I noticed some eucalyptus notes too. It bubbles and melts and is pretty oily, not quite full melt though.

I just thought of something. Does anyone know if dispensary growers are growing only photo period plants or have you ran into some Autoflowers?

I have seen some flower and extracts coming from autoflower-genetics for sale in a few cannabis stores here in California.

I've seen "3 bears OG" flower and extracts and I have also seen "Creme de la Chem" live resin for sale in one of the stores I've been to....Which are both autoflowering strains coming from Mephisto....I was a little surprised to see autoflowering/mephisto strains on the menu the first time I did. I grew the "Creme de la Chem" earlier this spring/early summer and I imagine it would make some excellent live resin or rosin or hash.

And one grower I know that is doing things over in the Oklahoma medical market is considering growing some autos along with typical photos.

I grew some autos outdoors this year during late spring/early summer, timed it so they were flowering under the summer solstice sunshine, and they turned out excellent!

The autos I started a bit later in the summer, around the end of July IIRC, didn't turn out nearly as good as those that ripened up under the peak sun of summer.

The grow is over, but still not "done". Still have about 7 more plants worth of trimmings to wash, and a few ounces of buds to infuse into coconut oil.

Hash washing day #3  :stirthepot: :stirthepot: :stirthepot:

Def getting decent yields this time around, for the first time ever!

Interesting.

I wonder how that works out?

Because even if an auto gets knocked up, aren't the immediate off-spring that come from those seeds not typically autoflowering?

Yea...

Quite a handful of em' over the years have taken forever to show anything, basically not until damn near flower season (Beyond Aug 1st in my area).

I remember my first year growing from seed I had the impression from reading around online and being told by folks that I will see pre-flowers within 6 to 8 weeks at the very latest and males will show up even earlier...None of that was true at all lol.

LizardWizard said:
Bubble hash usually refers to ice water extraction hash, not dry ice. Dry ice doesn't really work all that well in multiple bags ime. Breaks it all up too much causing too much green ultrafine particulate matter which you can't filter out anymore.

Of course there's people who like to refer to whatever hash that bubbles up as bubble hash but that's just wrong imo cause the name of the hash usually refers to either the strain, the place it's made, or the method used to extract. The newer types of extracts ALL bubble, so you could be calling all of them bubble, but they're not in essence bubble hash as it was once conceived......

I'm so glad I didn't go with using dry ice/bubble bags and tried doing ice-water hash one more time...

...I'm sure you recall me going on about getting extremely tiny yields with ice-water hash and I was considering trying dry ice and dry sift with my trim from this year. It was something I rambled about in this thread and others a few times over the years.

I don't know what particular variable(s) was different this time around but I FINALLY got some decent yields of hash from ice-water/bubble bags. I didn't weigh anything so not sure how good of yield it actually was, but I got waaaaaay more than I've ever got before. Multiple large spoonfuls from each wash/run and I only washed for about 10 to 15 minutes.

All of the stuff I've got from the 45 and 90 bags from each strain/wash I've done so far has been killer, very melty/oily...The stuff I collected in the 90 bag from "Wedding Cake" is the best so far, as far as melt/quality. At room temp it looks like a lump of BHO/oil more so than hashish. It naturally has a super glossy appearance and all the trichomes basically dissolved into each other on their own with out being pressed. When a piece of it is pressed in the fingers and held up to the light, light easily passes through it and it has a golden color, the edges are clear/colorless. The way it looks I feel like I could probably dab it, tho I do feel it will leave behind some residue. Just about full melt, entirely oil/resin. I need to get a screen to find out and really judge the quality but I feel it would be on the verge of a "5 star" hash (using the "6 star" rating/scale).

I'll post some pics eventually...Just rambling about it because for the first time in years, basically the first time ever since I've grown, I finally got some proper hashish on hand lol :awesome:

Still have lots more trim from several other strains to go through too.

As far as the name "Bubble" hash...there's several different explanations of what that word was originally referring too. I always thought it was in regards to the hash bubbling under heat as it melts. But I've heard something about it referring to the water forming bubbles/foam as the material is washed...Pretty sure there's some other story out there about what the word refers to lol....Not that it matters...In the stores around here I often see it labeled as "ice-water hash" or "full melt", or they use the "6 star" rating system.

Happy growing y'all...With everything just about done for me for the season (besides some more trim to turn into hash) and since I'm not going to be growing this next time around, as well as a lot of change going on in my life at the moment, I likely won't be around this thread much for a while but will pop in from time to time. :stoner:

Aw thanks dude  .

I do as well.

Ultimately it should be for the better, striving to get myself into a better "place" in life, just a lot of uncertainty and stress coming along with the change. Having basically no $ to my name and taking a leap to move a few hundred miles to a new place to try to start my life.

Simply/shortly put...I'm moving in the near future. Hoping to actually start my life and set some roots down in a place I want to live. I'm coming into my mid 30s and still don't really have things figured out and I haven't felt "alive" in years, mostly feel that I'm just merely existing. I need to get the fuck away from where I live now (in the hood/ghetto in the central valley of Cali).

Where I'm moving has some absolutely gorgeous land and feels like paradise to me (Humboldt County), land straddled between ocean & forest...Also more of a culture/vibe I'm into along with an actual art and music scene (I need art & music in my life), as well as a lot more industry that I'm interested in working (Cannabis farming, produce/food farming, mushrooms farming, forestry, environmental restoration, oyster and fishing industry).

I have big dreams of making a life up there, just a lot of uncertainty and many hurdles to get over.

There are a few brands that are supposed to have some nicely crafted/stitched bags, just forgot off the top of my head.

I'm not sure exactly what was causing my yields to be so low in the past.

But if one enjoys hash or wants to go solventless, ice-water hash is def the way to go. If you are interested in quality, I wouldn't go with using dry ice because the points LW brought up (creates more fragments/contaminants in the hash).

I just love hash and when it comes down to it I prefer solventless extracts for various reasons.

If you have a lot of material to work with/wash, then a rosin press is another route you can go.

Ice-water hash def won't give yields like solvent extracts do, solvent extracts will always give much larger yields.

All depends on what you're looking for and what you enjoy  . The only sort of solvent extracts I have interest in are fresh-frozen/live extracts, otherwise I prefer hash or rosin.

Idk which tho.
Those 100% mesh ones look best.

That is typical for the last bag to seem clogged/take a long time to drain, assuming you're talking about the 25micron bag, it can take a very long time to drain. I don't even use that bag tho.

I don't even use that bag and just dump out all the water after it has gone through the 45 bag...the stuff I have collected before in the last bag is always crap quality that I have no interest in, I don't even consider it to be "hash", the times I've collected from that bag it was mostly muck and fragments of plant material/dust/trichome stalks. No trichome heads or resin.

I only use the 190 bag, then the 120, the 90, and the 45 is the smallest I use...Sometimes I don't even use the 90 and just collect everything in the 45.

The bags I have at the moment do the trick but I def do want to get some nicer full mesh bags in the future.

I feel that hash should not be squeezed or pressed in any way until it is dry.

Squeezing fresh hash like that with pressure when it is still wet, I feel that is is going to rupture a lot of the trichomes as well as "locking in" the moisture in a way...potentially leading to mold and as well as a loss in quality/aroma/flavor.

I feel it's best for hash to be dried out with as much surface area exposed as possible, as quickly as possible while in the coldest and driest conditions possible (a freeze-dryer is the most ideal method to dry hash), and it shouldn't be exposed to any pressure until thoroughly dry.

I'm not a hash master, but just my feels and 2-cents on that topic.

Dang, nice selection & variety!

Several I'm not all that familiar with...but the MacV2, Thai Haze X Skunk#1, Crescendo bx & Peach Crescendo, PBB bx, and the NH X PBB stand out to me from that list.

I can't wait to have a grow where I get to choose/select specific varieties that I have a desire to grow. The past several years I've mostly grown just what ever clones I can get my hands on locally. Which some I do enjoy and some are killer clone-only varieties, in my area I am able to get some pretty good strains via clones pretty easily...

...but there's a lot more interesting stuff out there that I want to grow.

I forgot I had an entire Mango-Smile plant still hanging up in my closet...it was harvested around late September right before I started taking down my photo-period plants, it got pushed to the back and I totally forgot about it until yesterday. It wasn't nearly as good as the Mango Smile plant I grew earlier in the season that flowered under the peak of summer/solstice (that plant turned out super dank, one of the best I've ever grown regardless of auto/photo). So for now on with autos outdoors in my area, I won't be starting them any later than July 1st, seems that the shorter days towards the end of summer isn't that great for flower/resin production, and flowering under the solstice is the most ideal.

I ended up just hashing the entire plant.

Well shit. I thought autos were supposed to grow faster than photos? These are almost 2 weeks old and look like they sprouted up yesterday.....

I had the same exact experience and literally the same line of thought when growing autos for my first time last spring. I made some posts about it in this thread using almost the same words that you did lol.

I started the seeds around early/mid May, started directly outdoors fully exposed to the elements and sown directly in the soil of 20 & 30 gallon pots. (some of the nights/mornings for the first couple weeks were also a bit cool, so the cooler temps at night could have impacted their growth rate to an extent, but even the autos I started in the middle of summer grew rather slowly their first 2 weeks even in very warm conditions....and I was growing outdoors, so only about 14 to 15 hours of sunlight).

They all grew sooooo damn slowly the first 2 weeks...At 2 weeks I was wondering why they were growing so damn slow and were still itty bitty runts. Compared to every photo-period plant that I've grown from seed, all of the autos I grew were extremely slow the first 2 weeks and didn't have much vigor at all as a seedling (around 8 plants, 4 different strains, all from Mephisto).

At 2 weeks they were only like 3 inches tall IIRC, if that, and I was wondering how the fuck is such a tiny seedling going to start to develop flowers in just 2 more weeks...Every auto I grew last year started to flower around 30 days, give or take a few days.

But from about 2 to 6 weeks the plants really took off and started to grow much more rapidly with a ton of vigor...after 6 weeks from sprout I was actually surprised at how quickly they were developing, and by the time harvest was getting close I thought it was crazy that a plant could develop dense & resinous ripe flowers that quickly.

In the end, most of them turned out pretty good, some impressive even...I think my smallest harvest was 85g from the Creme de la Chem (pretty small plant, but chunky and dank very resinous flowers), and most of the others I got around 100g to 120g per plant....but I too was a bit concerned and was wondering WTF was up with their slow growth those first 2 weeks.

Perhaps autos put more energy into root development during the early stages of growth compared to photos(?)...because when I pull up the roots after the plant is harvested, to me it seems like the autos have super fat/thick and chunky tap-root/primary roots compared to photos. In general autos seems to be very "chunky" with their stem/stalk structure, all the way down through their roots.

Quote:

LizardWizard said:
And lastly I want to say that MEPHISTO IS OVERRATED.

They grow good beans, when they perform great. WHEN.

I've had just as many runts, or more, than good plants from Mephisto beans. Those are REALLY sad numbers. But when they are bomb, they are THE BOMB. Like, no-other-has-ever-tasted-so-great bomb. But then you have to put that up next to the other half that sucks dick and the ridiculous price they are currently asking, and what are you left with really?

I totally hear where you're coming from.

Last spring was my first grow with autos and I got all my seed from mephisto.

I def had some runts, particularly their Skywalker seemed really finicky and stunted easily or just straight up naturally wanted to only grow into a runt sized plant. All 3 seeds I sowed were teeny tiny plants.

One of the freebies I got from them, 3BOGXSamsquanch, both seeds produced runts.

Their Mango Smile was killer though! I'm still smoking on that plant I harvested back in July.

And the Creme de la Chem was really dank too!

But yea...with how much of a hassle it can be to get their seed, along with seeing a handful of runts with my first time growing their stuff, I totally hear what you're saying.

When they are good, they're good!...but that seems to not always be the case.

I still plan on growing some autos and getting some stuff from Mephisto in the future, but have a lot more interest in exploring what else is out there in the world of autos (which seems to be a lot these days)...After my first time around with autos I also feel like I can improve a lot, it does seem like those first couple weeks are the most crucial with autos, one thing in particular that I plan on doing is layering the soil underneath the seed like you describe LW, with a very light/coco mix on top so the roots can penetrate easily. (my soil isn't too heavy, but I can def see a lighter mix on top being beneficial)

For real tho :yesnod: .

I know I've rambled about it around the forums a handful of times over the years...

...but the stuff back then was soooo stanky and reeked so pungently and was so sticky/greasy...The most itty bitty bud, less than a gram, wrapped up and sealed in multiple layers of baggies and/or in a jar/bottle would still have my entire house smelling like a skunk for days. When walking in the front door of my house it was like walking into a fog of skunk (even when it was less than a gram of herb wrapped up in multiple baggies that was placed in a pill bottle with the bottle in a plastic bag...and in my closet, in between clothes, with the door shut)....No exaggeration at all, it was ridiculous how stanky & strong the herb smelled back then (strong flavor/taste too). I would have to go through so much trouble just to try to keep the smell in check from no more than a gram of herb, the stuff reeeeked lol.

Even with my home grown I haven't really got quite on par with the stuff I was getting back then as far as pungency of aroma and the amount of flavor. Though my home grown is def better than most of what I see in stores and on the streets these days....I feel I still have lots of room to dial in and improve on my grow and drying/curing though.

I just feel like most folks growing back then really cared about and knew what they were doing/masters of the craft, as well as the genetics/varieties going around back then having some better qualities.

Prices were a lot higher back then, crazy to think of the prices back then and how much a grower could sell for/make...but the quality was top notch :drooling: .
