Do we have an "official" cannabis growers thread on the shroomery?
I don't even know if there's more than just few folks on the shroomery that grow the herb...?...If there's at least a few of us, though, perhaps we can use this thread to chit chat about our plants and our grow. If not, then I'll probably just let the thread die and make my own grow journal and separate threads for my occasional random questions. This is going to be my first time growing the plant (I've been waiting for this moment for sooo long lol), so I might have some basic & newb questions as the grow progresses. I'm planning on growing at least 4 plants (outdoors), no more than 6. 30 gallon pots. I'm probably going with some fabric pots. I plan on building a basic "hoop" structure over the plants so I can hang some shade cloth. I won't have the plants under the shade cloth every day, just during some of our super intense summer days. And if we get any late summer/early fall rains they'll be sheltered from the rain. I'm about to germinate some seeds within the next week or so. Depending how many of those pop open, I might also grab a clone or two from someone local/craigslist. -OM . Edited by openmind (05/31/18 03:50 PM)

I'm on the growery too....
....but there's rarely ever any discussion/posts on that site. There's only a few people that post on that site and not many of them even grow weed. -OM .

Quote: Right on... ...I think I recall seeing some pics/posts about some of your grows/plants in the past, unless I have you confused with someone else around here. Thanks for the heads up about germinating. That's more or less how I was planning on going about it. I think I'm going to start the seeds in small pots, like 1 gallon, then transplant them into 30 gallon fabric pots once they've developed a bit. I think I'm going to start the seeds outdoors right from the beginning instead of starting them under lights indoors...It's already getting into the season, we're already at 13+ hours of daylight in my area and it won't be another 2 weeks or so until I get around to it. The seeds I plan on planting are all from "bag seed"...but they came out of some high quality buds and they are all from legit/known west coast strains...I'm just not sure if the seeds were developed from the plant turning hermy and pollinating itself, or from pollen drifting from some other nearby hermy plant .The seeds I plan on germinating are bag-seed from.... Raspberry Kush Cherry Kush Blue cookies Khalifa Kush Captain America OG I'll probably get a clone or two from someone local as well. I'd love to grow some Gorilla Glue and a high CBD strain. -OM .

Quote: I'm growing in pots for a couple reasons. There are gophers in this neighborhood. I don't want to risk the roots of my weed plants getting munched on and destroyed by gophers so I'm going to have them in pots. Fabric pots, at least, though. Size...I'm growing these in my backyard so I'm trying to keep them moderate in size. It is legal to grow in my state, but the plants have to be out of the public view and I don't want the tops of the plants being easily visible by neighbors (even tho they're going to smell it lol ) . Also, I don't have much room to hang/dry and cure the harvest so I'm not trying to grow too large. I feel 30 gallon fabric pots will suffice for what I'm trying to do, I'm still expecting a potentially 5ft plant....I might put one plant in the ground just to see how it does. I'd go with 50 to 100 gallon pots...but I don't have the $ to fill them with the soil I want. Cost wise, that'd be a bit too much for me. I plan on buying some really good soil, living where I do there's quite a bit of vendors selling quality organic soils. By this time next year, I plan to have some of my own compost going. I'm starting a compost pile in my backyard. Quote: That's actually exactly what I was planning on doing .Quote: That thing is like the epitome of sativa . So lanky.Looking good! Any idea of the strain/genetics background? Any particular aromas coming from the buds yet? Quote: I'm in northern california, it gets pretty damn hot in my particular area during the summer (95 to 105+ is typical) with low humidity...it's toasty but lots of folks grow herb outdoors around here. I plan on having some shade cloth over the plants on days that gets 95+ . I'll likely be watering every single morning once June/July comes around, and sometimes probably even morning and evening. -OM .

Quote: I'm germinating seeds at the moment, pretty much like ^that^, some soil in a foam cup with some plastic wrap over the top, and placed the seed about 1/4 inch or so down into the soil with...One of them popped open today, it's only been 2.5 days. I had the seed maybe 1/4 inch down in the soil, but now that it's popped open the tap root seems to be going up out of the soil and a bit sideways and not down into the soil. You think I should gently move/position it so the tap root is going down into the soil or just leave it to figure it out on its own? *Edit/update: I ended up doing a quick google search about this after I made this post, it seems common/normal for the tap root to do this, grow upwards at first, I also don't think I planted it deep enough. Instead of moving/messing with it, I ended up just placing a pinch of soil over the tap root, going to let it do it's thing and hope it turns down into the soil and takes hold. -OM . 9 out of 15 seeds successfully germinated for me
. The first one that popped open, the one I spoke about in my previous post, ended up not making it.I really wasn't expecting that many of them to sprout, I was going to be satisfied if just one of them popped open lol....I wasn't expecting many of them to actually pop open mostly because I felt that some of the seeds might have been too old, and/or not developed/mature enough to be viable.... That's why I germinated so many right from the beginning....but now I'm in the situation where I'm going to have to pick and choose which ones I want to keep, since by law I'm only allowed 6 plants (and since I'm growing right in my back yard I want to stay within the law). I also want to get some clones of some specific strains, ugghh lol, I wanna grow em' all lol. I'm going to let these seedlings grow out for a few weeks then choose which ones look the most healthy & robust and hope those all turn out to be ladies, then try to find homes for the other ones. What I have so far from the seeds that popped open (all bag seed that came from particularly dank buds, of course the mystery is if the seeds were conceived from the plant self pollinating itself or from stray pollen from another plant).... 3 Raspberry Kush 1 Khalifa Kush 1 Cherry Kush 1 Captain America OG 1 Blue Cookies 2 mystery/unlabeled seeds that I picked out of an old seed jar of mine, they're a few years old and I'm not sure what strain they were picked out of. I'm really surprised these ones in particular popped open since they've just been sitting in a jar for a few years. ....and so it begins .-OM . Edited by openmind (05/31/18 03:45 PM)

These questions are to anyone in the thread...
....My seedlings are a week old since they sprouted. I've had them outdoors in the shade most of the day, occasionally some brief (15 to 30 minutes) direct sunlight during the early and later parts of the days. How soon can they be placed under direct sunlight all day? My plan is to just give me a little bit more direct sunlight every day, but I'm curious if there's a certain "rule of thumb" about when seedlings/young plants can be under full sun..?...(my climate is relatively hot & dry, temps around 85 to 100 over the next few weeks). The size of the pot....My original plan was to go with 30 gallon fabric pots....It seems most folks start their plants indoors much earlier in the season so they're already a decent size plant by this time of the year when they bring them outside to grow. Since my plants are still just seedlings at this time of the season (I also plan on getting some clones within the next week or two), will their roots fill out a 30 gallon pot over the next few months or is 30 gallons a lot of volume for plants that are just now starting? (I know some folks use 50, 100, 200+ gallon size pots, but that's with plants that are usually started much earlier in the season, they're already a decent size plant with big roots when they're placed in those size pots)...Basically just wondering if a plant planted now will fill out and make use of it's 30 gallon pot, or should I go with 20 to 25 gallon and save a little $ on soil/etc...? I live in northern cali, we have a really long and hot grow season....so the plants will have lots of energy and time to grow. also...as suggested by Karode, this thread is is now the "Official Cannabis Growers Thread" .-OM .

Quote: My seedlings are already going, most of them are around 8 days old since they sprouted. And I plan on buying some clones in the next week or two (small, but already with roots & hearty growth) . That's what I was asking, will plants that are still only week old seedlings (and some well rooted/hearty clones) at this moment make use and fill out a 25 to 30 gallon pot through the season...?...I feel like I'm getting a late start on things lol, or a bit late to just now be sowing/sprouting the seed...not "too late" at all but much later than a lot folks around my area do (starting them under lights indoors so they're already moderate size plants by this time of year when they put em' outdoors). I've seen grows before, but I have no real reference for how much the plants will grow in a given amount of time (I know there's lots of variables at play there, but in general). But yea that's what I'm aiming for, a nice bushy/shrub of sorts . . I'm not trying to grow giants, just some healthy shruby/bushy ladies, (I'm assuming most of mine will reach around 4ft to 5ft.?..). I'm trying to keep them relatively short. I'm planning on topping and training them. I'd be more than happy with 1/4lb from each plant but I think outdoor plants of good genetics (in 30 gallon pots) will likely produce a bit more than that, yea?...I'm not aiming for any particular weight, just trying to raise some healthy plants and see what they provide....All of my harvest is entirely for my own stash and some gifts to those in my life.Quote: I kept my seeds/seedlings under a basic "humidity dome" for 5 days or so. I germinated them in small cups with plastic wrap over them, placed outdoors in partial sun (80f to 90f outside). While the tap root was initially coming out of the seed and then the first few days while the baby seedlings only had their cotyledons I kept the plastic wrap over them (w/ a tiny bit of fresh air flow). But once their first true leaves were going I took it off and it was open air. I definitely thought about mold and/or "choking" em' but they did well. Since I made my last post asking about taking them out in direct sun...that's what I did today, moved them where they spent almost the entire day under the direct sun (mid day I placed em' in shade for an hour or so, just being cautious, the sunlight was damn intense today and I didn't want to roast them lol). I too water the soil with just a spray bottle, twice a day...will probably be doing so 3 or 4 times a day in a couple days when it's 100+ outside. The last frost around my area is pretty early in the season, planting right around then can definitely be done but it's still kinda cold outside at night and there is still a chance of weather and the days are still a bit too short so the plants will start to flower pretty early unless they're supplemented with few hours of extra light...Which quite a few folks do, they'll rig up some simple lights around their outdoor plants while the days are still short & super early in the season..just enough light to keep them in veg so they don't go into flower during the early spring. But yea I plan on getting everything into big pots as soon as I can. I'm going to let my seedlings go for at least 2 or 3 weeks before moving them at all, when I buy a few clones in a week or two I'll likely place them directly into big pots. Around 25 to 30 gallon pots is about as big as my budget will allow, as far as buying the soil and nutes for them (6 plants). But that should be plenty for the size & type of grow I'm aiming for .......If I didn't live right in the middle of a town/neighborhood and if I had the $$$ to do so (and if I had the plants started a bit early in the season), I would be putting them into 100+ gallon fabric pots and growing me some big wans !-OM ![]() . I picked up some cuttings....
Tangieland (Tangie X Candyland) South Fork Kush (SFV OG X Chemdawg) Slymer ( [Trainwreck x Jack The Ripper] x Trinity) Frosted Cherry Cookies (Cherry Cookies X The White) They're all some rather stout & healthy plants to my eyes, I'll start posting some pics in the next few days. My seedlings are doing alright. They're at 2.5 to 3 weeks old. I'm not sure how quickly they're supposed to grow but they're growing a bit slower than I assumed they would. A few of them have keeled over and shriveled, they weren't doing all that great in the first place....meanwhile the others have started to look a lot more vigorous over the past few days. I'll get some pics up soon. -OM . Edited by openmind (06/17/18 02:22 PM)

Quote: Some hearty looking plants . I recall seeing that strain and that Magash fella over on the growery.Do you plan on transplanting into a larger size after the 10 gallon? What sort of soil are you working with? Are you using any particular fertz/nutes? I'm going to be transplanting within the next week or two. Mine are in 1 gallon pots right now (plants are about 18 inches tall from top of pot), I'm considering putting them right into a 25 gallon fabric pot (25gal is the biggest I'm going)....I'm at that point where, as a first time grower, I'm trying to decide on what soil I'm going to go with. There's soooo many different options around here, and from my research online I can't find any consistent answers/opinions on what soil supplier/brand is consistently an all around quality soil.....I think I'm going to end up going with some "roots organics" soil (or possibly one of the local bulk super-soil suppliers), and use "Dr. Earth" fertilizers/amendments. It's going to be damn hot in our area this weekend, around 105 if not a lil hotter...Is there a certain temp at which you'll shade the plants a bit? I intend on moving my plants into the shade this weekend during the peak light/temps of the day. -OM .

Quote: Same here (on the county level).....I've waited to grow for so long, now that it's "legal" I'm finally just saying "fuck it" and putting a few plants among my backyard garden. I figure the worst case scenario is a neighbor complains or somehow it ultimately leads to a knock on the door and I'm told I have to remove the plants, or potentially a ticket (If one is within the state law and has 6 plants or less, I'm assuming it's just a fine for violating the county law) It's still early in the season but my nieghborhood already stanks like herb so I'm not the only one around here with plants outdoors ....My next door neighbors seem pretty chill too so I don't think they're going to complain.Quote: I know where you're talking about, I've heard about that too...so ridiculous . Quote: I hear ya, I'm the same way....but some classic rosin is more or less a full spectrum extract of sorts, or at least it's got a broader spectrum than basic BHO or bubble/water hash. All that's being done is squeezing the oils out of the buds and the plant material is left behind. There's also some true full spectrum solvent extracts out there that are sooo so good!...The absolute epitome of a cannabis extract, it has the entire spectrum of goods...It's beautiful in aesthetics, has ridiculous aroma and flavor, and the high is super nice (closer to a strong bud high rather than that of a purely THC high)...It's basically the pure composition of a "trichome", but with all of the plant material/chlorophyll and fats/waxes/lipids removed, everything else is intact. Check it out>>> Extractioneering The Ultimate Level of Extraction Technology. Nothing Added. Nothing Reintroduced. Ph.D. Plant Biochemist & 20+ yrs in Cannabis. But!!!....When it comes down to it...I too prefer me some good ol' bubble hash or buds. Since solvent extracts have become all the "hype" in recent years it's hard to come across quality water/bubble hash, I rarely see water hash anymore. I plan on getting some bags to make some after my harvest .I prefer high quality buds over hash or extracts in general....but I do dab from time to time . I just like the balanced high from buds more. Dabs will get me super high, but something is usually "lacking" in the high...flowers are always more satisfying. With rosin, or those full spectrum oils...the high is much more balanced and "richer" compared to the high from some basic BHO that's mostly THC. -OM .

Quote: The Roots soil you're using....is it their "original" soil, or one of the others? Is it doing the job well lol ? I'm still debating between what soil I'm going to go with...If I can find the Roots "Green Fields" soil locally I'll likely go with that depending on the price, but the place I was at today only had the roots "original" soil.I'm also thinking about going with this "Empire Builder" by Sanctuary Soil, 1/2 yard for $85 >> http://sanctuarysoil.com/empire- Coco coir, sphagnum peat moss, composted forest product, worm castings, coco chips, lava rock, pumice, perlite, gypsum, langbeinite, sea bird and bat guano, fish bonemeal, feather meal, bonemeal, limestone, greensand, alfalfa meal, kelp meal, glacial rock dust, azomite, soybean meal, and rice bran. Fortunately I do have an aloe plant, I'm going to start foliar feeding with that as well as some mild tea. I'm using Dr. Earth brand fertilizer...organic, and I'm pretty sure their entire line contains mycorrhizae/probiotics . I plan on getting my plants into their final home this upcoming week...I ended up going with 20 gallon fabric pots. That'll be sufficient for what I'm aiming for and figured I'd save a lil $ on soil & what not. Once they're in the large pots I'm going to get some cages and bamboo to start opening them up & training them a bit. They've started to increase in their rate of new growth over the past week, basically since around the solstice...but I can imagine they're going to really take off over this next month once they get settled into their new homes. I'll finally get around to taking some pics soon. -OM .

My plants are showing signs of what I suspect if N deficiency. (as a reminder, this is my very first time growing the plant)
A few of the lower leafs are turning yellow/blotchy (similar to what's going on in the pic in the above post^, but a few of the leafs are in even worse shape). The tops of the plants still appear relatively healthy and there's been a noticeable increase in growth over the past 10 days or so, but their overall color/tone isn't quite as "lush" & vibrant as it was. Up until today they've been in the 1-gallon pots I got them in for over a month (I'm guessing they're about 18 to 20 inches tall, tall enough that one of them has fallen over from just a breeze). I've fed them some tea (Dr. Earth 5-5-2) 3 times over the past 3 weeks or so that I've had them. And up until today they've been receiving unfiltered municipal water (I now have a filter that reduces chlorine + other crap, same one Ran-D posted a little back in this thread)...if anything I think I may have slightly over watered them at a few points, but I've always let the top of the soil dry out a bit. As of today the plants are in 20 gallon fabric pots with Roots-brand "original" soil, and have received some filtered water. I can imagine the roots are going to be waaaay cooler and have way more room to breathe, and of course now room to grow, compared to being cramped in the hot black plastic pots they've been in (It's mostly been around 93 to 103 as of the past few weeks and they receive direct sun most of the day)...they weren't bound all that bad but were def starting to move around the outside of the pot a bit. So to fix this N deficiency (what I assume it is) and get some lush green & hearty color through out my plants again....Should I wait to see how they respond to being in the new pots (cooler, fresh new soil, more room to breathe & grow), along with filtered water, along with some doses of fertilizer tea...?... ...or should I get something like fox farm "grow big" to help the situation..?...Which if I understand correctly the N in liquid ferts like these is more readily "available" to the plants...?... Or will the fertilizer tea I've been making (pre-blended dry mix... Feather Meal, Fish Bone Meal, Kelp Meal, Alfalfa Meal, Potassium Sulfate, Micronutrient-rich Seaweed Extract, mycorrhizae/probiotics, + earthworm castings & molasses) be enough to get the plants bounced back & more green again somewhat quickly? (along with their new pots & soil) I feel that their new & bigger pots with new soil and cleaner water is going to help the situation quite a bit...I'm assuming they'll bounce back considering those variables, I just don't know how long it takes for cannabis to respond to such things and wondering about giving them the nitrogen+whatever they need to be over all lush again. -OM .

Today I started to bend three of my plants. Just simply gently bending over the main stalk roughly 45 degrees, then tying it to some bamboo. Just trying to get the lower branches to start reaching up themselves and opening up the plants a bit in general, in hopes of more hearty colas rather than one main top. Exactly like what's going on in this video here (though my plants aren't nearly as big)>>>>>
My Cherry Cookies has two main stalks/tops instead of one (when I bought the cutting it was already like this). I wasn't planning on bending over the tops of this one, rather just spreading them apart a little bit and opening up the branches in general.... .....Well when I was gently pulling apart the two tops on this plant just to look around it before I was even getting starting on tying it, I glanced down and realized that the skin of the stem had split at the "Y"/node where the main-stalk splits into two tops. I really wasn't pulling them apart all that much, I've done this before a couple times with the same amount of "force" over the past week or two just looking around the plant and getting an idea of how I was going to train/bend it. It looks like it is mostly just the skin that split, I don't think it ruptured/exposed all that deep into the vascular tissue. The two main top stalks are still totally erect and I wouldn't have noticed unless I glanced down at the node (but it was definitely a fresh split)...The split is right in the middle of the node/"Y" and doesn't reach down too far. I wrapped some of that stretchy green plastic wrap around the base of the top stalks just above where the node split, to "close" the split and hold the two top stalks together a bit (but there's no wrap directly on the split itself). I'm really hoping the split wasn't deep into the tissue, and hoping the plant heals itself.....Out the few plants/strains I'm growing, that's the one I was looking forward to the most It really didn't look all that bad....the way people do HST or full on bending/damaging stems a bit looks more intense looking than this little split...but when doing that proper the skin never splits open, so that's what I'm worried about. -OM .

Quote: Thanks for your input .I had no particular question, I was just hoping someone would chime in with their 2 cents from experience of having a stalk split or knowledge about such in general. After I made that post mentioning the split I had...I did some searching around other forums and it seems that for most folks that encountered a similar situation of having a stalk or branch split, it healed up for them. Most of the threads and things I read about, most people had a split that was deeper into the tissue and longer along the stalk than mine, and most of them healed up just fine (a few lost a single branch)... ....So I am pretty confident it will heal. From the bit of reading I did, it seems like most folks did the "repair" in a similar fashion that I did...using some wrap just above the node to hold the two tops together so the split is closed up. I also saw a few mentions of using a dab of honey around the split, but I had already wrapped it up at that point. What makes me the most confident that it is going to heal and no serious damage was done....The tops of the plant (above the split) is still looking healthy today. I figure if there was any serious damage to the vascular tissue, within a few hours after the split happening at least one of the tops (if not both) should have been drooping due to lack of water & nutrients being piped up through the main stalk....but almost 24 hours later and it's still looking dandy & putting on new growth. Thing is....I am definitely going to have to give these two main tops some serious support once they start flowering and putting on weight, otherwise it will likely split at the node again like a "wishbone". Quote: My plants recovered rather nicely and quickly too from the 45 degree bend I gave them .......Right after bending and tying them down, I was looking at them thinking along the lines of "I really hope I didn't hurt them" lol . Because they were looking so goofy and sad being bent over compared to how "glorious" they looked before growing straight up to the sun....but even just a few hours after bending them they were already re-orienting themselves for the most part, and today just about all of the branches are already rising upwards and I can see how the plants are going to be taking on more of a "bushy" structure. -OM .

BTW, just a random mention to the thread and no one specifically...
When I was transplanting my plants from their 1-gallon pots into the 20gal fabric pots a few days ago... ...that's when it really "set in" that I am finally growing me some herb .I absolutely adore this plant well beyond "just getting high". It holds a special place in my heart for sure and I have been waiting for and looking forward to this day for years! So I'm pretty stoked to finally have some herb growing in my garden, soaking up that sunshine. It all set in while I was potting them the other day and it put a big ol' smile on my soul .I've been smoking small amounts of herb pretty much daily for years now, and I do live in nor-cal where I could have got my card and had small grow going a long time ago...but long story short I was never able to (mostly didn't have the yard outside or room inside to grow).... ...now that I have a piece of earth to work with and now that it's "fully" legal in my state, it's happening .-OM ![]() .

Quote: Just an up-date, since my plants were starting to look a little shabby and N deficient a few days ago before I transplanted them. (likely because they were outgrowing their pots and the black plastic pots they were in was getting super hot with this 100 degree weather) It's only been 5 days since they've been in their new bigger pots, new soil, and receiving filtered water.... ....and they're already looking a lot better and putting on a lot of new growth! They're really starting to take off. The stem that split on my Cherry Cookies seems to have healed up, or at least the split never did much damage to the vascular tissue in the first place. Out of the 9 seeds that I germinated, I only have one seedling left that's alive and growing (Raspberry Kush)....I'm pretty certain the super cheap bagged soil I started the seeds in is why most of my seedlings were growing so slowly and died off (super slow growth, every leaf would turn yellow and curl & die within a day or two)....as soon as I got this one seedling into a new pot with some of that roots-soil it was looking a lot better within 24 hours and now it seems to be growing nicely with lush green growth....Lesson learned, don't buy the cheapest bagged soil from home-depot for starting seedlings lol .I'll eventually get some pics up...My phone doesn't do pictures and I can't transfer pics with my camera at the moment (can't find the cord). Question for those with outdoor experience/knowledge....
Do outdoor plants go through a "flowering stretch" like indoor plants will? Like this>>> ![]() I know that indoors grown plants will stretch and grow quite a bit more once the lights are flipped to 12/12, seems some plants almost double in size.... ....but since with outdoor the amount of light is just slowly tapering rather than changing over night, I'm assuming that there wouldn't be as much of a dramatic stretch/increase in growth during flowering and rather just a consistent rate of growth....?....Or do outdoor plants also explode in size during flowering? For the longest time I always assumed that the plants actually slowed down their vegetative growth dramatically during flowering, with the buds swelling up I figured overall vegetative growth slowed down....but it appears the opposite is true....just learned about this a couple months ago lol, just wondering if it's the same for outdoor plants? -OM .

Quote: My plants have had pre-flowers for over a month now (they're clones), but they're not flowering and won't be for at least another few weeks...I always thought pre-flowers came out once the plant was "mature", not necessarily right before flowering? Mine have started to grow a lot more over the past two weeks though (likely because of bigger pots). -OM .

. So lanky.
. The first one that popped open, the one I spoke about in my previous post, ended up not making it.

. . I'm not trying to grow giants, just some healthy shruby/bushy ladies, (I'm assuming most of mine will reach around 4ft to 5ft.?..). I'm trying to keep them relatively short. I'm planning on topping and training them. I'd be more than happy with 1/4lb from each plant but I think outdoor plants of good genetics (in 30 gallon pots) will likely produce a bit more than that, yea?...I'm not aiming for any particular weight, just trying to raise some healthy plants and see what they provide....All of my harvest is entirely for my own stash and some gifts to those in my life.
....

? I'm still debating between what soil I'm going to go with...If I can find the Roots "Green Fields" soil locally I'll likely go with that depending on the price, but the place I was at today only had the roots "original" soil.
lol .
