help contamination..
    #25110718 - 04/03/18 11:06 AM (5 years, 10 months ago)

Hello guys...

Well I had some jars ready and had to travel for a week so I just got my monotub ready and went out. But I ended up spending 2 weeks away and came back to this..

I have lots of pinns and primordia and some let's say lol shrooms big to be pinns but small.

The tub was in colonizing conditions for the 2 weeks only now I opened and gave a nice fanning. I know I have alot of water on the surface I think I can get rid of it w some fanning..

but what about that strange wite stuff getting a bit green? Is there a way to get rid of it? Do you think I have time for a first flush in case I can't get rid of it?

It's only going to get worse. If you're determined to get a flush then quarantine it and keep it closed. If you don't have any more cultures I would clone a few pins and keep truckin'

That's going to get awful really fuckin fast. Get it out of your house now. Fruit it in your contam pile outside. If you don't have one, I'd really just cut your losses. Trich bombing your house for a single substrate makes literally no sense to me.

I have more prints. And have no more projects...only that tub. I usually don't open. I did open cuz i had to put it in fruiting.. And had to put the polyfil and stuff.

So there is no way of killing it? :frown:

Cutting that part off would only make it worst or is there a chance it could help?

So thats the famous trich? Iit's my 3rd monotub never had a contamination. I always trow my substrate after second flush. Never had a contamination before.

Had to meet the trich.. guess its part of the hobby.

Thanks

To me it looks like it's taken over a lot. The sub doesn't look the healthiest and that usually means that it'll just regrow where you cut it because it's grown throughout your substrate much more than you'd expect. I guarantee other spots will start forming soon. It looks toast to me. Sorry for your loss.

Have you been putting your spores to agar and taking transfers?

Nop. I just started.
Got my first prints this year.

First 2 monotubs used just coco/verm bucket tek and no problems.
This time decided to use coffee and some peat moss and did my first real pasteurization. Guess something went wrong.

I trust the prints and the jars were realy nice looking and had a nice smell.

don't know yet what went wrong. But if say it was the substrate preparation.

You stuck your prints uo to your face to smell them?

If they were clean before they certainly aren't now.

Harvest what you can off that substrate and throw it outside. You might get a lovely outdoor flush.

Just to update you guys.

i did the salt thing and it worked. No spreading no signs of contaminations any more.
Did get the flush and had very nice fruits.
Before I dunked for a second flush I cutted out the part that had salt on top of the contamination. Did the dunk and let's see if I get a second flush..

In the picture you can see the salt patch I did. It's mutch bigger than what the contamination was. I did put alot of salt on top and around of the contamination..

Thanks

I hope you didn't do any of the steps of dunking, cutting, harvesting or growing in your grow room/house. Nothing like intentionally trich bombing your house for a single tub. But sure, you did get some shrooms. Like maybe 3-4 oz? If you don't grow a lot, you'll probably be fine. Many people have made the mistake of trying to save a tub, and ruining their future grows, so do be careful op.

No second flush for me... it has spred after dunking.
So salt works as a delay but it wont fix the problem.

I do a grow every 2 months or so. Just to have for me and friends.

now that I tossed it away. What can I do to make sure my room is ready for next grow?
How to disinfect it or clean? Do you guys think bleach would work?

Thinking of spending a bottle of bleach to realy clean my house.

And about the bin I'm using as a monotub how to clean it?

Thanks guys

That's preventative care. It works to an extent. The thing that will never fail is truly clean spawn, which requires some amazing attention to detail, and OCD. The issue with this is that clean spawn is harder to have than one might think. That's why having a house full of mold spores makes it hard because only the cleanest of spawn will survive. With a house that's clean, you'll get success much more often, even with dirty spawn. Unfortunately for me I'm one of those people who can't have a clean flush without hella clean spawn because I tried to save so many substrates. Now I see noobs posting shit spawn and getting decent pulls because they don't have a mold infested house. Makes me kinda jealous.

If you don't grow often, chances are you won't be needing to combat a lot of mold. That's why you should be fine. If you wanna clean/disinfect that's cool, but I'd focus on how clean spawn should look. If you grow clean spawn, you'll always be fine.
