I grew mushrooms a few years back (I grew 5 or 6 different strains) with quite a lot of success.. I discovered that growing cubes is not nearly as hard as I thought when I was starting out..keeping things as clean as possible and a little prep (without skipping key steps) is all it takes.. And just as it is with cannabis cultivation, the key seems to be to leave things alone once they are set up...a LOT of trouble comes from over tending..and I get it..we are all excited and want to see results right NOW!! But patience is absolutely the most important virtue... I purchased a mini greenhouse and a couple of cheap humidifiers (the last time out I purchased a high end humidifier and it died about 3 months in, this time I used a wick type and a cool mist type and they work just fine) My RH runs around 80% BUT I use a peat based casing so my mycelium stays well hydrated, while misting is nearly completely unnecessary... My biggest smart move this time out (I began growing mushrooms again because I ran out of Blue Honey! I got used to enjoying a tablespoon a day) was to acquire a syringe of spores that I had never grown before.. I mail ordered 5 syringes of "Golden Teacher" from ...well I won't say..suffice to just call him Ralph...and I used to order from him all the time..but this time I sent a money order for 50 bucks to him and NOTHING! I followed the instructions, made an account on the site etc and nothing..not even a reply to my e-mails...so F#@k it! I drove about an hour down the highway and bought 1 syringe from a head shop in a city near me..the one syringe was $45.00 so I really hoped for success at this point.. The guy told me "They apparently grow very fast and are potent" so I was hoping those words were true... So far he was spot on about the speed... I inoculated 2x 500ml jars of BRF on Feb 28... The fully colonized jars were then birthed on Mar 18 to a bulk sub of straw/sheep dung on that day and believe it or not the straw was fully colonized and ready to be cased on Mar 24..and the cased trays were placed in the greenhouse/fruiting chamber on Mar 28 and I started seeing primordia (pins) on the 4th of Mar (yesterday)... I have attached some pics of the jars and the trays as of this AM...out of the 2 trays I am seeing hundreds of pins coming up out of the casing... Tasmanian is certainly proving itself to be a fast producer...all that is left to see is how potent the fruit is...but as far as it goes for now I have a new fave strain!!! Enjoy the pics...more to come in the following days...
Jars...

I wouldn't get too hung up on the strain, every strain can have fast growing and slowing genetics.
Looks like things have worked out real well for you! Good job.

I use taz. Seems prolific. I tried half gram tea a few days ago and definately felt a mild trip. I guess strain don't really matter though. I had some success 10 yrs ago so I got em again. Now they're doin good too. I never had a problem with that vendor.

Yeah...but it got me started (again) so it's money well spent.. I am going to use a vendor for other strains in the future..but I will at least be able to make some prints and have plenty of spores to work with......

Thanks for that, brother! I appreciate any encouragement...the last time I posted here (about 8-10 years ago) I posted pics of my very first grow and rather than words of support and encouragement I got my first reply and it was like "not many pins"..I was so proud that I had succeeded at all and I was a little put off... I know that a cube is a cube generally speaking..but I was impressed with the Tasmanian's speed and the fact that it was just so easy to grow.... The mycelium was also really REALLY rhizomorphic...with it coming through the casing like someone turned a houseplant upside down and the roots are growing up to the sky rather than down into the soil... As mushroom people I am sure the folks here can relate to the beauty of every stage of mushroom growth...but people who don't grow just look at me and shake their heads...how can something like "fungus" be so exciting..right? lol

Yeah I had no issues with him before either..and I don't know what happened, if he had just sent me a reply to my many e-mail enquiries I would know what happened... But he isn't the only vendor..and the syringe I purchased at the head shop was originally from a fairly local vendor that I can order directly from in the future..so it was a costly lesson but not the first (or last) time I have wasted money on something... I look forward to growing more of the Taz, but I know all cubes are generally similar...and this was just my first crop after a 10 year hiatus...so I will get a chance to try many different strains... :-) Here's a tray of Blue Meanies from back in the good old days.... -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

They were really good...it's just too bad that the spore prints I had were too old to be viable when I re-started growing mushies again... :-) Oh well...Tasmanian cubes are my newest choice and it looks like I chose well... I cannot wait to get some nice spore prints from them...then I can test out all the things I have wanted to test out..and share the results here... Just for you, Zero...I am posting some pics of the other strains I grew 8-9 years ago... Enjoy!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------- And a couple of pics of my other favourite hobby..growing cannabis and making hashish.. (I am actually licensed to grow for my wife who is a med user) I hope posting these pics of cannabis in a mushroom forum doesn't upset anyone..my apologies if it's in the wrong place..feel free to move it if necessary....

Here are a handful of pictures from my first flush of Tasmanian in a sub of straw/sheep poo/verm with a casing of plain old peat potting mix. My biggest mistake (resulting in small fruit and less fruit than I might have realized) was the fact that I didn't add any hydrated lime or gypsum... They are, however..extremely potent for a cube..I ate a fresh mushroom while harvesting and I could feel the effects about 30 min later... I look forward to the 2nd flush and my next trays...making some syringes and brf jars later today! -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry that a couple of the pics are a bit blurry... Hope flush number 2 is bigger and better!! Stay Tuned.....
