Damn I definitely gotta mist more, the beads on my surface are no where near that big. Mine just has a slight glisten/shine to it with extremely small beads

I'm doing a big batch of Milo tomorrow, for a grain comparison test. I'm considering splitting the batch between soak and simmer, to see just how each works in terms of hydration.

Awesome tek! I am considering combining whole oats and WBS to make the unltimate cheap spawn. Your volumetric data was really nice to know!

How dry are you getting the grain before loading the jars? I know some teks leave some water on the outside to finish hydrating in the PC, whilst other teks that fully hydrate via soak and/or simmer stress dry grains going into the PC cycle.
It seems this tek doesn’t require a full air drying of the grains before loading the jars?

I've been having trouble finding milo at the price your mentioned. Know of any websites offering it that cheap?

Hi hamloaf,
great write up! I have a few questions about the tea though. How long does it take for the water to boil for you? Last night I boiled my milo in a large pressure cooker pot and it took about over an hour for the water to reach boiling. I can imagine that even if the water hasn't reached boiling, over 1 hour to reach boiling will over cook the grains in my case.
Also, how dry were your grains before you added them to jars?
Peace and Love,

Excellent write-up, thank you! However, upon trying this method with my sorghum (Milo), my grains seemed hard and when broken in half are still quite dry and starchy inside. I went ahead and inoculated them and am waiting for results. I'm currently doing a 2nd test batch, much smaller. This time, I cooked the milo in my instant pot for 10 minutes on low pressure. They seem to be more hydrated. 10 grains is about .27 grams dry, .45 grams wet, so seems to be an improvement. Drying them then throwing them into the PC.
I am loving this grain though so I'll be doing quite a bit of experimentation with it, especially since I have access to it for $16 per 50 lbs. I'll note that the milo I'm using is "re-cleaned" milo, intended for animal feed, and contains occasional other grains that I've went ahead and picked out for this experiment.

I know this is an old thread, but I just finished rinsing my first batch of milo. It took over an hour and way more than 10 rinses to get 12.5 cups rinsed to fill 10 jars.
I did a second trial when I was done, way faster to rinse 4 cups at a time. Easier to handle the containers as well.
Just thought I’d add this as it would have saved me a lot of aggravation and time. I had organic milo and it was filthy.

Despite this I love the tiny grain size and hardiness. I’m hoping the next stages go well and it becomes my go to grain.

I'm making the switch to milo from rye myself.
How have your runs been with milo following this tek? Do you find a 5min boil is sufficient to properly saturate the grain? Considering the tek does not specify the need to pre-soak I'm some what skeptical that 5 minutes is enough.

I followed this TEK to the letter. I have done 40 jars with it. All colonized perfectly. No issues.
The below jars are pics from in progress points in the grow. They have since fully colonized and most have gone to bulk. Some have been harvested.
