Even $5 that someone knowingly stole from me is worth fucking their life up over.

Na. She'd have to file a police report to make it fraud and get her money back. She probably didn't want to file charges against her son.

:whathesaid:

Banks normally won't help you out if you do not prosecute the individual that's stealing.

I've seen it happen before.
Not me personally but I've seen it happen.

I agree.  And according to her, he OD's or "falls out" quite regularly.

My guess is that he will most likely only serve a year or two in jail depending on his crimes......which may be what he needs to finally give the shit up.

He actually just did over a year in jail.  Then he got out and was back on drugs worse than ever within a month.  Now he's on parole, facing 10-15 years if he's arrested again.  But he just got arrested again and now his parole officer is considering letting him slide yet again.

It was like SIX transactions of $300 or so.  Somewhere around $2,000 total.

It took me till the third time in jail to finally have enough. Twice I drank within 30 minutes of when I was released. I was lucky....booze doesn't kill you as quickly as fentanyl/heroin does. This is sad....I can't imagine what his mother is going through.

Debit cards are covered under the Electronic Funds Transfer Act (EFTA) and the clock is ticking on how she reacts.  The longer she delays in reporting the fraud the more it will cost her.

"Debit Card Fraud:

According to the EFTA, your potential liability for fraudulent debit card transactions is virtually unlimited. You have up to 60 days to report a lost or stolen card under the EFTA. After that, you simply lose whatever money was taken, even funds siphoned from linked accounts. The exact liability limits under the EFTA are:

Lost or stolen card reported before unauthorized transactions: zero liability.

Lost or stolen card reported within two days: $50 liability limit.

Lost or stolen card reported within 60 days: $500 liability limit.

    After 60 days: no protection."
