Any crazy experiences with wildlife? 2

I was camping in Sequoia National Forest. I was just getting dark and I was lighting the fire. I look up and this big ass buck is running top speed right at me. I was right in between 2 trees and it was coming right for me. It got about 5 feet away from me and veered off. That thing could have killed me or messed me up really bad.
Another time I was camping at Devils Lake State Park in WI. It was night and me and my ex girl were sitting around the fire and I hear a noise by the cooler. So I get up and look and its a racoon trying to get in the cooler. So I yelled at it and it ran away. I sit back down and 10 minutes later its back. I get up and yell and it starts hissing at me. Then it opens the cooler and pulls out a bag and takes off with it. It had cheese and a bunch of butter in it. That thing probably got sick as hell.
I have also hit 2 deer with 2 different vehicles.

I was riding my atv when i was younger and ran across a dog that had broke his chain. The chain had got wrapped all up in a thicket so he was pretty stuck. Dog was freaking out. Growling and just being nasty. So i sat there and talked him down and eventually unhooked his collar and set him free.
Made me feel really in tune with animals ever since? This was before Caesar.
Ive hit a few animal's unfortunately. A deer. A raccoon. Possums. Bugs. ( Bet they won't have the guts to do that again! ) Bird's. Bats. Snakes. A few dog's and cats... Fish. Turtles. I kayaked into some jellyfish one time...kinda creepy.

Thats cool you saved the dog. dogs are awesome. I have one now and she is the greatest dog I ever had. Just so friendly and outgoing. The sweetest creature ever. Listens so well. I used to walk her without a leash and other dogs would walk by and she would stay right by my side. I rescued her from a shelter when she was 2 months old and she is now 10. She has ligament problems so I cant take her on long hikes anymore. Sucks.
Yeah I started getting in to nature when I started fishing. Then I moved to CA and it was so beautiful there. I seen alot of wildlife there. Bears, elk, seals, whales, and all kinds of stuff. I just love nature now. It brings me so much peace. Im back in IL now and go hiking alot in the forest preserves. There are tons of deer and coyotes. I got like 5 feet from a buck one time but it wouldnt let me pet it.

I saw a bunch of feral horses this week on Cumberland Island, but had no interaction other than taking a few pictures. Years ago a quick trip to the bathhouse in a campground led to the raccoons getting into our weed brownies. It was just starting to get dark, I knew better. We had way more than we needed, and was able to salvage enough that hadn’t been chewed on. I left the rest out for them that night. They were crazier than normal that night, fighting and carrying on. The next night, they were about 3 hours late to raid the campground. Thankfully I’ve never had a bear encounter while camping. This one guy I go with sometimes is really sloppy with food, it’s almost certain to happen one day.

You got hit in the head by a bear thats fucking crazy. They are like the only thing that scares me.
Aside from that raccoon stealing my food I dont mind them. Some people have them as pets. I used to be a garbage man. This dumpster I would pick up first thing in the morning would always have like 6 raccoons in it. They never bothered me.

Rounded a hill off-trail way back when one winter to discover a hind leg from a deer just laying there, obviously fresh because of the blood all over the surrounding snow. My dog at the time was all hyped up about it, but I didn't share the same enthusiasm....
I've seen plenty of coyotes out here, and a few people near me have seen a family of black bears hanging around. Luckily, bears are the only thing in my area that are intimidating (Besides that damn clown in the sewers).

Was tripping with a group near this area known for giant elk. We found this beautiful strand and decided to sit down in a trip circle and talk about life and shit. HUGE bull elk saunters over to our tribe and since everyone's tripping no one is freaking yet, I think I was the only one even aware of it at first. Let's be real, male elk are dangerous but it was all good vibes so we just kept chilling and tried to ignore it/be chill with it. Pushes his 900 lbs ass through a gap in our circle and lays down. A couple of us got the balls to pet him and this girl in our group snapped a couple pics with her little Polaroid. I got harsh into the peaks about this time and I was on the biggest dose so the next while is a blur but what I think was about an hour passed before it got up and left. Only one person even noticed that it had, I guess the rest of us were writhing around too enraptured to notice this massive being peace out. One of the most "magical" times in my life.

Me and my bro just went to rockville Maryland to some camp site on the river and set up camp. There's squirrels and geese and wildlife all-around us. We go for a walk to burn one because there's campers around us and we split 1g of gt, smoke a j and when we walk back to the camp there's this terrible sound coming from our tent!!! I thought it was someone robbing us , I grab a stick and jump around the corner and it's a freaking goose getting the sub sandwich my bro purchased , tore open the plastic clam shell packaging and made such a mess all over our gear n tent. Thankfully we never unpacked our gear because it would have got trashed.

I was tripping at night on the side of a mountain in a cabin, I had eaten a sheet of acid, smoked a lot of meth and probably other stuff. I got freaked out and decided I had to go sit in my car, a couple of friends came with me.
While we were sitting there for hours? Decades more likely, the sky erupted with green light. It went from pitch black to green, then the lights condensed into 3ft giant orbs of blinking lights as far up and as far down as you could see.
Fog had settled on the mountains and fire flys had come out in mass, prettiest damn thing I had ever seen, the sun came up shortly and I started to drive home tripping balls. That’s when the chicken crossed the road, and he did it because I was tripping.

Coyotes are pussies. I see them all the time. 99% of the time they take off as soon as they see you. They mainly travel solo or in pairs. Once I seen 4 together. They were walking at me on an adjoining trail about 30 feet from me. Didn't seem scared or excited or anything. Just kept walking straight at me. I was being followed by 1 while hiking with my dog. I stopped to take a piss and looked over and 1 was like 40 feet behind me. As soon as it seen me see it, it took off. It might have been just going the same way I was. In some places they are known to play with dogs or run them off. My dog is 10 but she would tear apart a coyote. She got in a dog fight once at a dog park and the other dog didn't come away too well. Had a big gash on it's chest.

It's funny I just made that post about coyotes earlier.
I just took my dog for a short hike. There is a slough a ways off the trail. I seen a few big birds so I walk down to take some pics. As I am taking them I hear some loud barking. I look over and this coyote is barking and howling like crazy. It kept doing it for like 5 minutes as we were walking away.

Ive had some majestic moments with ducks and geese on the river.
I go jetskiing on a river a couple miles from my house. Occassionally, i will jet kei down the river and a geese or duck or even a small flock of them will "fly" with me, matching speeds. Its really special. I think even a stork flew with me, they are pretty big.
Definitely majestic

I'm not sure how "crazy" these are, but nevermind.
I rescued a hawk from a possum trap once. Unfortunately his foot didn't make it, so I left dead possums out for him for the rest of the summer.
Another time I spotted a bull wandering around with a gate attached to his horns (he had lifted it off the rails). We managed to get that off of him.
Another weird experience was when a little baby goat jumped off a cliff and landed right next to me. He just stood there, so we took him home n raised him.

Was backpacking with my wife a few years ago. It was hot as hell and dry and some lightning strikes had caused wildfires nearby. The heat and smoky air slowed us down so that at dusk we were still nowhere near the spot where we are supposed to make camp.
I look down hill and see the backside of a mountain lion about 30 yards away walking in the same direction as us, slightly ahead of us. I decide not to tell my wife cause I think she'll freak out. By the time it gets completely dark I've lost sight of it.
We switch on our headlamps and needless to say, I've got my head on a swivel. There was a lot of wild life out there and I'm making sure none of it is that lion.
As we came around a curve the trail became straight as far as we could see. In the distance a pair of eyes reflect back at me. They kind of Bob up and down and left and right, locked on us.
"That looks like a predator", I say. My wife's like,"Fuck You. Are you trying to scare me? Don't try to scare me out here"!
The thing starts to Sprint at us. I hold my trecking pole up in front of my body ready brace my weight against it if need be. The glowing eyes Bob up and down quickly as it closes distance with us and suddenly runs off the trail up the hillside to our left.
Slowly and cautiously we move forward. After a small number of steps the beast hops down the hillside and the eyes are bouncing up and down towards us. Shit! This thing is gonna pounce us. It runs up the hill again.
We start to move again and again the beast hops down the hill and heads at us again. It gets to where we can start to see more than it's eyes and it heads downhill, to our right, a little grey fox no longer in attack mode, saunters off.
That fox left us with a slough of curse words and a hell of an adrenaline rush, which probably helped us with the rest of the hike.

I was watching this show and this guy would walk around a pond everyday. This goose would follow him every day. Eventually the guy would get on his scooter and the goose would fly like 2 feet from his head all the way home.

Thundermuscle75 That's pretty freaky. I hate the dark because you can't see shit. Animals see way better than humans in the dark.
The other day I was having a fire at this spot by me. I was alone. I hear these crazy sounds like cats fighting maybe 30 ft from me. Probably some raccoons.
A few weeks ago I took 2 feet of San Pedro at this spot in the forest preserves by this slough. Beautiful place. So when I get there walking to the spot I see a head pop up. Coyote. I made a previous post about one howling at me at the same spot. They had a den there. So I get to the spot and sit down. There were 3 of them checking me out. They looked for 20 seconds and took off. I will post some pics.

That's a pretty spot.
What area is that?
Coyotes usually seem pretty cool to be around. They did spook me once when I was out alone at night and they were howling from all directions. Really felt surrounded. Technically I guess I was.
I once saw a pack of coyotes about to take down a small deer. The deer followed by coyotes ran past me and one of the coyotes leaped at the deers haunches as they dissapeared down a gully. A few seconds later they were howling like mad, with coyotes from the hills calling back.
I wanted to go check it out, but I wussed out. I figured they would be pretty territorial over a fresh kill. I kind of wish I followed up. Would make a better story.

It's in the Cook County Forest Preserves in IL. The area is beautiful and only like 30 minutes from downtown Chicago. Tons of hiking trails. On that trail I always see tons of deer and coyotes. On one hike I seen 11 deer and 7 coyotes.
I have seen at least 50 coyotes. 99% of the time as soon as they see you they run. It is rare to see more than 2 together. I seen 4 once coming at me from an adjoining trail. They were about 30 feet from me and didn't seem scared or excited just kept walking towards me. I have no fear of them at all. They are pretty weak. They rarely hunt deer. It probably depends on the availability of food.
I think I seen a couple of wolves there. They were big but pretty far away. There have been a few sightings of wolves in IL.
I posted a ton of pics in the random outdoor picture thread of my hikes in the area if you want to check them out.

A friend and I had been hitching around the country for a while and had rolled into Oklahoma via Arkansas. Well we’d heard all these stories about wild hogs and this that and the other. So some trucker dropped us off not to far past the border and it was late at night so we did the usal. Now given in most areas east of the Mississippi and then some there are an abundance of trees so we’d made the best of our hammocks more times then not. In this particular occasion this just wasn’t an option. So like many times before we dive in a thicket roll out a tarp and claim our spot. Having walked a shit ton that day I immediately pass out while my buddro nurses a beer. Next thing I know I’m upended from my sleep and he is screaming about something circling us. So struggling to find our only flashlight I grab the heaviest thing I can find and as soon as I do I grab head lamp point it at the “intruder” hit the switch and chuck said object as hard as I can. And so as it some times goes...I realized all the errors of my ways. The thing I threw well that was the 3/4 of a 24oz my buddy was coveting and the thing I threw it at that was a cute curious optimistic armadillo. Mind you you he didn’t give a fuck I’d missed him by a mile. Now my friend on the other hand not so much.

Thats really cool. Geese loving following the leader.
Had a crazy experience today.
I was outside, dong yard work at this ladys house. She lives on a hill in a sort of rural area. Well, it was windy yesturday, tree limbs swaying, lots of creeking. Then i heard a loud CRACK and a huge 30ft conifer came crashing down about 100ft from where i was standing! It was intense!
Then about 1 hour later, i see a wild deer roaming in the forested area of this womans house acompanied by a fawn. So cute. The adult deer just stared at me as i stared it it motionlessness, checking it out. It was quite the moment we had.

I have been seeing trees and branches falling like crazy lately. I was just at Devil's Lake State Park and a branch fell on my tent and put a small hole in it.

I never had a fear of trees, but after seeing that one fall, a person could probably die from a tree falling. Ive heard stories of it happening.

I came across a black bear and its cub a few weeks ago while backpacking. Nothing "crazy" happened but seeing them was crazy enough. First time I've seen one up close and in the wild. It was pretty intense.
I also ran into a deer once at about 90 mph in my dads old cadillac. I was pissed as hell at first since I totaled the car but looking back on it now I just feel bad for the deer.

You definitely don't want to run into a bear with it's cubs. Black bears aren't that aggressive though. I seen a juvenile black bear in Sequoia. It was climbing down the mountain and came onto the road where I was waiting. I wanted to go up to it but I had my dog with me. It probably had just left it's mother.
Where were you at when you seen it?

I know the black bears are less aggressive and they’re supposedly smaller than brown bears but this thing was huge. I’m still in awe by its sheer size. It could have ripped us to pieces if it wanted to.
I was also shocked by its speed and agility. The cub took off right away. The mother stared at us for a couple seconds then followed its cub at lighting speed down the mountainside.
We were in the SW section of great smoky mtn National Park. It’s a beautiful park. I would highly recommend it for its backcountry. Stay away from all the popular shit near the main roads. People everywhere.

That's why bears scare me because they are so fast and powerful. You can't do a thing. They can even climb trees. I think the smoky mountains are supposed to have the highest concentration of black bears in the US. I have been in the Smoky's by the tail of the dragon. That famous road. It is beautiful. I fished at Cheoah lake. I had my car on the dragon and it was awesome. I was in that area twice. The only wildlife I seen was a turkey crossing the road in front of me.
I seen a video of a guy with a helmet cam. A black bear came at him so fast and swatted his ass. Just knocked him down and walked away. Crazy.

Yeah that's why they say the best thing you can do if a bear is charging is stand as tall and make yourself as big as possible and make noise to let it know you are human. The best you can do is make yourself seem intimidating to make the bear think twice.. then if it does get close you pound that motherfucker in the muzzle as hard as possible/bear mace/hope you have a weapon in hand Those things can move... there's no outrunning a bear.. they can move about 30mph.. that's faster than Usain Bolt
That's black bears anyway.... they usually aren't aggressive anyway unless protecting their cubs. Don't get between a mama bear and cubs. But I've also heard black bears may charge, but rarely ever attack.. the vast majority of time they bluff charge and stop just short. That's been my only experience getting rushed by a black bear.. he veered off at about 10 feet away.
Brown/Grizzly bears you are supposed to play dead and lay flat with your arms around your neck.. and fight back if it attacks. But shit you probably aren't winning that one. Grizzlies are some scary fucks
Guns aren't really super effective either unless you blast a hole in its brain/heart first shot.. a non-fatal gunshot wound will just piss a bear off and make it even more aggressive and those fuckers can take a lot of them and not even phase them.

Yeah you need to shot it perfect and kill it right away or your screwed. Even the bear spray doesn't work sometimes. I was thinking if one attacked me I would gouge it's eyes. Just poke them out. I'm sure it would stop if you did that. I always think about what to do when attacked. There was a guy that killed a big ass grizzly with a spear. That's a brave dude.
Compared to humans animals are far superior strength and speed wise. We have the advantage with making weapons and working together. Even a hippo can out run a human. You could easily side step it though. Hippos kill more people than anything else in Africa.
I was watching a show where these guys were trying to scare off a tiger from a village. They were on elephants. They were in some field with like 5 foot tall whatever was growing. You couldn't see that anything was there. This tiger appears jumps and bites the guy on the arm. The elephant was 10 feet tall. That is insane. Tigers are bad ass. they are big and hunt solo. So powerful and fast. Love them. They are in very small numbers now. So are rhinos and giraffes. It's a shame.

Yeah I've heard if you have to fight a bear the best thing to do is go straight for the nose/eyes/face as brutally as possible, a hard hit to the nose could send it running.. or it could claw your face off.
I saw that video of that tiger jumping up that elephant and biting that dude.. shits crazy.
And yeah man hippos are dangerous as fuck.. you wouldn't think so but I've heard those fuckers can be aggressive as shit, they will total cars

So I was just at my favorite spot to chill and smoke at the forest preserves by me. I wasn't going to take my camera but at the last minute decided to. I was laying there with my back to the trees. For some reason I looked behind me and this doe was standing like 20 ft from me. My dog was laying there with her back to it and didn't know it was there. It was just staring at my dog. I took 4 pics of it and got some video. It finally made a sound and took off. They sound like pterodactyls or something. My dog jumped up and started barking.
I am going to have a fire if the mosquitoes aren't bad. I need to convert the photos and I will upload the vid on youtube. I will post them some time in the near future.

Last sat. I went to a concert and went to a bar with some dude I met there. 5:30am we pull into a forest preserve. There were 4 deer in the field feeding. I was all drunk taking photos. I probably took about 20.
Check out these.

Such a cute bear. Rips their head off.
That masse shot is awesome. I used to be able to do that but not that good. I have made a few. Those people are crazy with some of the shots they can do.

As I run trails each morning I am fairly often less than 15 or 20 feet from deer. Lot's of other critters and birds too.
My buddy lost all his toes climbing. His feet are probably the craziest thing I have ever seen as a result of experiences in the wild, not exactly with wild life.
When I was a young man and riding moto X bikes often I once semi got chased by a bear, it's cup was up a tree and I momentarily got between them. Thank god for 6 gears and 125cc's.

Found it amusing camping with my brother at a place called Antelope Island, on the Great Salt Lake, hence the name of my home city Salt Lake City. They thought it would be boring for tourists long ago so they flew in a lot of Bison to populate it and they did.
Buffaloes are curious animals and I love their demeanor. It is not like they are a bull and are going to charge you but if you fuck with them they will fuck with you, they are of course, very large creatures.
Anyway, we were just doing some car camping with set up sites, for comfort and luxury and laziness lol, when one wandered into the campground. It is just one isolated road with car camping, a fire pit, and a plastic umbrella for the sun with a bench and table to eat on and a flat spot to put up ones tents.
So it comes wandering in and we are just observing but for some reason it found this guy's vehicle interesting and was slowly walking towards it. He started freaking out when it reached his nice and expensive vehicle and wasn't sure what to do about it. He was scared of aggravating the buff but he didn't want his vehicle damaged as it just picked it out of all of them and came right up to the door.
This man did not know what to do and it made us laugh watching this scene unfold. So he would run up to try to scare it off and then run back but the Buff could give a shit less. It was just interested in his large vehicle.
It eventually got bored and walked back out of the camp but it was more entertaining just watching this man and animal interact for a long time. All it cared about was his vehicle, I guess humans aren't as interesting.

I have two shiba inu dogs and everyone who sees them asks if they are foxes or some variation of that. It's kinda funny to guess what people are going to say. Anyway, I took my girls to portland yesterday to have one of them bred. We came home and then this morning I watched a little red fox walk through my front yard very fast like a cat and he stopped about 4 feet from my window I was looking out. I could even see the vole or mouse he had in his mouth. He has been coming up to my back door in the dog yard and leaving little fox doodles for my girls. He barks every night right across from my fence in a wetland swamp forest where my spring is. I always assumed it was a coyote but he is in the same spot every night and not as high pitched or as loud. First sighting in 5 years living here and I hear him or them every night. He was so fast that I'll have to get a primo wildlife cam to get a pic. Good Omen.

I have only got a quick glimpse of a fox once. They are elusive.
Barnaby I will be in Utah in Sep. Going to Arches, Bryce Canyon and Zion. Where is a good place to see buffalo? I have driven through a few times and it is beautiful. Can't wait.

So last week my sister was in the hospital and her kids were alone. I went to MO to watch them. I took them to this park with hiking trails by the Mississippi River. Pulling in there were 2 coyote pups in this clearing right off the road. I pulled over and took a bunch of photos. Very rare to see pups.
Last Sat. back home I went on an 8 mile hike by me that I have done many times. I really don't see much wildlife there compared to other trails in the area. It was around noon, very hot and tons of people use this trail on the weekends. It is very popular for runners and mountain bikers. I wasn't expecting to see anything but I always bring my camera.
Around 7 miles I see this fawn about 20 feet off the trail. I stop and take some photos. There was also a bigger deer pretty close to it. This woman and some dude come up behind me. The fawn started to walk right up to me. Got like 10 feet from me and the woman reaches for her phone to take some video and scares it. I got a short vid of it just as it was fleeing. I will upload it on youtube and post it. The photos are in the random outdoor pictures thread if you want to check them out. I go t some really good ones lately.

I seen a big hawk in a tree right off the trail on my hike today. It was far down the trail. I turned my camera on and took the lens cap off but before I got close enough it flew away.
I could have swore I posted the video and some photos the other day but they are not on here. What?
Here is the vid.

Yesterday I pull into the forest preserves with my dog. There was a coyote laying out in the open. Unusual. I stop and it gets up and limps into the trees. My first thought is to call. I think it's a coyote they won't do anything.
I see it 4 more times. It kept coming out from the trees and looking around and came pretty close to my car a few times. It seemed like it wanted help. I would love to tie it up and feed it till it healed. It could still move pretty good but is putting no weight on it's front paw.
I decide to go home and call. I am a trail watch volunteer by the way.
I call the forest preserve wildlife division and get no answer. They were probably gone for the day. I called the forest preserve police and told them. They said they would send a unit.
I went back and a police truck was there. They left. I seen the coyote a few more times. One time it was eating something it picked up off the ground. I was talking to a few people that live right there. One guy said not to call because they will kill it. I see people leave food around the forest preserves all the time. One lady said there is a feeding station there. She said people leave turkey carcasses and things. Maybe it will make it.

It was a few years ago I was driving into succor creek at about 4am, and was trying to get to camp before I passed out. I had driven straight through from colorado. I had to drive through miles of sage brush where there were thousands of rabbits darting everywhere. I was going pretty fast with all the rabbits darting out of the road when a little coyote runs into the road and I hit it. I cursed at myself and backed up to see it breathing it's last. I picked it up and put it off the road and covered it with sagebrush. The coyote looked exactly like my shiba inu who was in the passenger seat. Thankfully she didn't see what happened. I'm still pretty emotional about it 3 years later. I've massacred at least a dozen deer, skunks, raccoons etc and never felt sad beyond when it happened. Something about hitting a dog or cat gets to me, even if they are wild animals. Coyote was basically a trickster god in ancient oregon and was at the center of the ancient stories.

I hit 2 deer before and didn't feel bad. If I hit a coyote I probably would. I really like them but I have a dog too. I see 1 almost everyday.
I just heard yesterday that a mountain biker was killed by a mountain lion in Washington. They said it was 40 lbs underweight. I hid the guy under a log. He was with a friend and that dude ran. Pussy. They killed it. I feel bad for it. It was starving and needed to eat. They said it was the first attack in the state for 20 years.

Coyotes are everywhere. I was watching something and they said they tagged over 1000 in Chicago. They said that they even know to look left first before crossing the street. Pretty smart.
I have heard them once howling by me. When I was camping in Sequoia I heard them all night all around me.

Did it talk back?
My sister said there are some by this river I was at in MO. I would love to get a good photo of one. They are very rare to see though.

For some reason I was thinking that a bobcat was a cougar. People call them different names. Like mountain lions are cougars.
There are cougars by my sister in MO. I am thinking about spending some time there and trying to get a photo. They are rare to see and usually don't attack people but it does happen. There are some videos of cougar encounters on youtube. When they look at you they just stare you down and you can tell they are thinking about eating your ass. I am not afraid of them but I'm not going to try to pet one.
I spent a shit load of time in the wild in CA and never seen one. I would always see signs saying beware this is cougar territory. 8 years ago I was in CA on vacation and went hiking in the mountains near Malibu. I seen the sign saying there are Cougars there. So I ended up going off the trail to climb up to this peak to see the view. I ended up taking this other trail that was actually part of the pacific crest trail. I was hiking for like 8 hours and my legs were tired as fuck. So I am in this valley and was thinking this looks like a perfect spot for cougars. So there was a pipe on the ground and I picked it up. I could have swore I heard a growl shortly after that but maybe it was my mind playing tricks on me.
Anyways I came out to a beach with a ranger station. I told the ranger I got lost hiking. He said you can use the phone to call a cab. I asked do you have a number for a taxi company? Then another ranger said he would give me a ride.
I hop in the front seat and there is a shotgun right in the middle. He gets in and asks to see my ID. I could of picked it up and started blasting. It was about a 20 minute drive back to my rental car.
Same trip I took the Ford Taurus rental car off roading in the desert. I went through a spot that was some soft loose sand. Good thing I didn't get stuck. It was illegal too. You are supposed to have an off road sticker and vehicle.

Bears suck. I don't care how adorable they try to make them. They suck.

When I see a bear, there's this instinctual reaction in me that takes over. I run at the bear or bears at full speed yelling as loud as I possibly can "BAD BEAR!". They don't want anything to do with a crazy human.

I was long board surfing on some waist to chest sized waves on the east coast and a bottle nose dolphin swam the short ride beside me , literally a foot to two beside the long board I was riding till he or she broke off at the end of the ride . I'd been eating golden teachers and amazonians etc for months prior on a weekly regular thing , so when it happened it felt very spiritual , I always remember the angle of the sun and the clarity of the water etc. but that mammal swimming up beside , I've never been that close to them before . It was very touching
-------------------- The really important facts were that spatial relationships had ceased to matter very much and that my mind was perceiving the world in terms of other than spatial categories. At ordinary times the eye concerns itself with such problems as where? — how far? — how situated in relation to what? In the mescaline experience the implied questions to which the eye responds are of another order. Place and distance cease to be of much interest. The mind does its perceiving in terms of intensity of existence, profundity of significance, relationships within a pattern."

That is cool as hell.
I need to spend more time in nature.

Missouri. MO is Missouri right? I always thought that was weird. Then what is Montana?
I don't know where those places are at. My sister lives next to Hannibal. Hannibal is where Mark Twain is from. It's a pretty cool little town and beautiful area. I actually got some photos of 2 coyote pups when I was there which is rare. I posted them in the random outdoors pictures thread. Some good shots.

That would be soo cool to surf along side a dolphin. I have seen that on tv. I have never surfed but will be moving to CA. Maybe I will try it. I really don't like going into the water though. Plus I really wouldn't want to lose an arm or leg to a shark. Not scared just don't know if it's worth the risk for me.
Bendrider you should definitely spend more time in nature. I love it. The first time I tripped in nature was earlier this year. I did 2 feet of San Pedro. I seen 3 coyotes, a deer walked right up behind me, seen the biggest racoon I have ever seen, a hawk flew like 20 feet over my head, seen a bunch of herons and egrets, a chipmunk, and 2 small birds fell like 5 feet in front of me fighting or mating. It was epic.
I'm going to Utah this month and am thinking about doing some San Pedro at Bryce Canyon. That would be cool as fuck.

Utah does have some of the most beautiful spots in the country, and good gem mining. The only thing that keeps me out of Utah is their scary weed laws. Going from a legal state to a state still at war is kind of traumatic. It's a really dehumanizing feeling.

God, my brother and I went to Moab and to a hostel called the Lazy Lizard. We got lost and this guy that lived right next to it in a trailer came out and said, why are you here basically. He knew the lazy lizard was just next door. My brother asked him and he said I am getting my gun and he meant it, seriously. So we made our way out of there. Cool place if anyone ever feels like visiting Moab.
Utah native but Moab and Park City is in Utah but not Utah. Liberals mainly. Where people are so used to being out alone and away from people they will bump into you walking into a grocery score to resupply on needs since they are so used to nothing around them but rock.
Gun laws overall are fucked up in this country. Utah is one of many. Nature puts on some more amazing lethal shows of force than any man or woman with firearms. I loved the joke about the headline on the Onion saying that Hurricane Katrina came back to New Orleans and apologized. Nature is nature and man is a mosquito destroying it but it works long term and we will abolish our species in time.

Today, there was a bunch of chirping outside, so i went to watch the birds flying over, and BANG! something hit the roof, i thought, was that a walnut? no walnut tree is on otherside of the house.. and in corner of my eye i see something fall to the ground.. a frog!? NO it's a bright green toad! it just fell out of the sky, then before i can take a picture, it scurried away under the fence, into the weeds, and was gone. i guess the birds had dropped it. i never seen a green toad before. maybe it was a baby bullfrog.

I have. Who knows? Nature is a strange beast but if one watches for awhile, one gets it but can never get to the end of it. It is addictive, better then heroin!
