Hi guys, this is my first post so please forgive me if I've screwed up and put this in the wrong place. I have gone on a few walks to see if I can find anything I can use to get spores so I can start cultivating. Today I picked up two mushrooms that looked at the end of their life cycle, but are the only ones that have any resemblance to what I'm looking for so far. I have a nagging feeling that they have simply shrivelled and aged and thats why they look like mushrooms I've seen posted here...Any advice from more experienced hunters? Cheers

hey mate , Just started out and in New Zealand myself let me know how you get on im in south island haha
no luck yet though...from what i hear its easier for beginners to find gold tops and perhaps liberty caps, i think im going to go with if it bruises blue or has purple/brown spores its magic if not 90% chance its not active.Still worth posting in here for an ID though. Good luck

Not familiar with the NZ funga, but maybe this is Descolea? Perhaps D. phlebophora?
It looks a little worn and dried up, though.
Welcome to the Shroomery.

Any idea as to species?
I basically just compared it to pictures of Descolea on MO. There weren't that many from NZ.

I have studied Descolea and know the genus reasonably well, the images you provided the link for look quite familiar
I think this is probably A. muscaria
