Rinse the substrate after first flush.

Hello, Im new to the forum and I have been searching here and other places for my following question.
I have just harvested my first flush and I can't fully rinse all the little mushies at my substrate. There seems to be some flesh still there, Is this a problem? I thought maybe they rot and cause some kind of mold?
Hope to get some answers, thank you.

I cut mine with scissors or a knife and leave a stump forrest. New pins come off the old stumps

Nothing about growing is sterile besides the spawn jars get sterilized before inoculation.

The leftover material can be a catalyst for bacteria when it starts to decompose, its best to try and get the break close to the myc to avoid any issues
The pictures are nice, do you find its better to cut and leave the stub rather than twist and risk tearing the myc?
I usually leave the substrate to dry out a little on the first flush before the pull, it helps with the little craters you can get if your not careful. For secondary flushes I cut level with the myc and the substrate is in the compost before the nasties set in

Stumps also create issues for lots of folks. I would never leave them. Try both ways and see what works for you.

Yes.
I routinely have substrates get to flush 4-5 with no mold and i always leave stumps. They should be turning into mycelium. They're basically the same thing as the surface of your tub anyway

Are you pulling weight in those flushes though? My seconds and thirds and fourths are pretty weighty because I can mist and bottom water without much worry of mold. Stumps are a pretty big contam. magnet.

This was spawned on 2/14 not sure what flush it is but I don’t have problems with contams on stumps

How is this tub now? Looks a little funky to me
Bodhi, do you add peroxide or anything to the water when you float?

Its one mycological use is for cobweb mold. If you have cobweb mold you done fucked up good. And need to start over.
Peroxide damages your body as well and delays healing time. Peroxide in first aid is old news too.
There's also no reason to try using over the counter concentrations of peroxide as a sanitizer or disinfectant.
